In the city of Neverwinter, you receive an invitation from a dwarf named Gundren Rockseeker to meet in a room at the Black Flagon tavern. Seeing/knowing (depending on whether or not you have previously met the dwarf) that you were the capable sort, he extended an offer to you. "Escort a wagonload of provisions to the settlement of Phandalin, a couple of days’ travel southeast of the city. You'll be meeting a few others at a wagon outside the city gates tomorrow morning. Get it to the trading post "Barthen’s Provisions" safely, and you'll be awarded 10 gold pieces." Gundren, clearly excited, didn't reveal much about his reasons for the trip. He only mentioned that it was "something big" before announcing that he would be leaving tonight to take care of some business before your arrival. As the next morning finds you, you head to the city gates to meet the party you'll be traveling with.
Disclaimer: I am completely new to DMing, and most of my D&D experience has come from watching other people's campaigns. I'm looking for decently experienced players who can tell me if there's anything I need to work on to improve as a DM. I 'd like to DM more here, but please bear with me while I try to build some confidence in it. I can post at least every other day, though I aim to post once or twice per day.

Name: Daeran Race: High Elf Class: Ranger Backstory: Daeran does not speak a lot about his past beside that he becomed a ranger in order to help people against monsters that lurk in the dark. Thanks to his training as ranger, for the past 20 years he has been helping patrolling the surroundings of Neverwinter as an non-official scout for the local militia. Character Link: https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/MaxHam/characters/14001194
Please consider that I'm playing from Japan so my time zone is GMT+9, I can manage to post 1-2 times in my evening/night during the week and more during the weekend.
Backstory: Filled with Wanderlust from a young age Vidarr was often mocked by the other Goliaths in his herd for his lack of strength and his interest in stories. One day he was out in the mountains near Mount Hotenow when he heard screams and the smell of burnt flesh. He ran back to the herd to find that they had been incinerated by a creature of some sort. He has spent the last few years travelling, learning about other civilisations and customs hoping to find some clue as to what it was that ended his herd.
Backstory: Bheran was raised in a military family, and being a soldier was the most honorable achievement he could achieve for them. While he served several years, he was dishonorably discharged for a war crime he did not commit. Now, Bheran hopes to do whatever he can to regain the respect of his family.
Backstory: Although Cinder never knew his real parents or family, he was not an orphan. He was raised by a red dragon called Azzith. Azzith was more than just a mother, she was a teacher/mentor to Cinder. He developed arcane abilities of draconic origins thanks to Azzith's nurturing. He spent several years learning and mastering his ability. Cinder's goal was to unlock his full potential, and become a powerful mage, become stronger than his mother. What he seeks is knowledge, because he believes knowledge is power. Eventually, he managed to convince his mother to allow him to travel the world, to experience life and to gather knowledge and power from far and wide.
A half-orc abandoned by both his parents, he was left in the care of the clerics at the local temple of the Sun. He is usually quiet and methodical, ever mindful of his generally frightening appearance and strength. On occasion, however, his temper gets the best of him. Once he completed his clerical training, he set out on his own, determined to help those in need while searching for his birth parents.
Backstory: A young girl, filled with arcane magics, and even more so with confidence had grown up in a small town with dreams of entering the magic academy a few cities away from her home. After countless hours of training and study, as well as jumping through some hoops and doing menial task to get a recommendation, she had managed to weasel her way into a mostly elvish school. However her time there dint last long, as she struggles to actually control her magic at times, and when she does, its mainly to entertain herself. Now she simply travels with dreams of adventure, hoping to one day be able to truly wield the power she holds.
Backstory: Past his prime...a once solider now retired. Will has fallen on hard times due to the Dwarf and Elven trade wars...the once prosperous Hidden Gem is no longer stocked as it was, its shelves lay barren. No longer able to manage his family store, he looks around at the dusty shelves and signs saying "EVERYTHING MUST GO" he locks the door and posts a sign, "closed until further notice".
Standing outside of the Hidden Gem underneath the red & white striped overhang that is in disrepair..."Shite...I hope this adventuring scheme fetches me enough coin to stock and reopen the Hidden Gem. Me Father would be down right ashamed to see the shop in this condition. This is all the remains of my families legacy."
He steals one more look, grabs his backpack straps and turns looking down the road wondering if this will be the last time he lays eyes on the Hidden Gem.
Name: Ghorne Hawthorne Race: Human Class: Fighter Backstory: Ghorne has spent his days as a caravan guard. Neverwinter has been his home since he was a young lad and guard work is plenty with the city's bustling trade. The message from Gundren was not unexpected, Ghorne has worked for the dwarf before, usually reliable work with fair pay. Another general day in Ghorne (usually) uneventful life. About a month ago, i got a message from a Hammer of Moradin (they are kind of an elite unit of my faith) to go to Neverwinter and look for a dwarf who needs help. It took me 4 weeks, most of my gold and the live of my mule to get here. But i did arrive a day ago in Neverwinter and within an hour my way and Gundrens crossed at the Black Flagon. That must have been predestinatin.
I am going to reduce one of the attributes to an 8 on the character sheet.
Backstory: Varis Dorn... Dorn a lineage of people of the Chondathan ethnic group. Orphaned at a young age and forced to raise himself... Varies found something was unique about him at a very young age. Unlike the human ethnic groups that were derived from the ancient Netherese, Chondathans had no strong bloodlines that had sorcerous ancestry, nor did they have significant traditions related to the arcane arts. But Varis does. Quite aloof and not very outgoing, Varis just wanders from town to town... trying to earn his keep and to use his powers to get some food in his belly... but still hoping one day to find out the truth about his lineage
Name: Elora Sin Race: Human Class: Monk Backstory: Elora lived in the monastery from a young age. Her parents didn't have the means to feed and teach her properly, and the life in the monastery was hard but rewarding. At about 20 years old, she left the monastery to experience the world and gain wisdom from it. She went to Neverwinter. There she found work on a shoe repair shop, and on the side would repair discarded shoes and give them to the orphan kids and homeless of the city. She heard Gundrens offer, and travelling was always in her interest. So she would like to tag along the caravan.
Backstory: Danvan used to live with his small community deep within the forrest, hidden away from other folks. Thats untl the fatefull day he accidentaly sets the hut of the tribe leader on fire. Even though it was an accident, he waspunished hard: banishment from the tribe. Not knowing where to stay for the coming winter, he sets course, even though begrungingly, towards phandalin.
After much deliberation, the party has been decided. I'll send a group message to everyone in as soon as I can. (Right now whenever I try to send it I get a 500 error, so I'm waiting to hear from tech support.) Thank you all so much for applying, it was really tough to narrow it down!
Name: Hallow (Pronounced Ha-low, the ”Ha” is pronounced in the same way as in ”Has”)
Race: Tiefling
Class: Warlock (The great old one)
Background: Haunted one
Backstory:
Hallow has been ’haunted’ most of her life, though she doesn't consider that a bad thing. It all started when she was 14, Hallow was playing with a kickball, when she kicked it in the wrong direction, she started to chase after it but something weird happened. While she was chasing the ball, she tripped, but instead of hitting the ground, she fell through it, falling into a pocket dimension of some sort. Confused, Hallow looked around and saw the looming figure of Gaxinuz, an aberration, ”H-hello?” said Hallow, Gaxinuz then said something in Deep Speech which Hallow obviously didn't know, ”W-where am I? A-and who are you?” responded the scared girl, Gaxinuz then reached out one of his tentacles and pressed it against the forehead of Hallow. Gaxinuz then spoke in Deep Speech, which Hallow somehow understood now ”I am Gaxinuz, I am trapped in this dimension, I need a willing host to be able to be free, if you become the host, nothing bad will happen, I will simply be free, but if you become the host, I can give you powerful magical abilities. What is your decision child?”, after waiting a bit thinking, Hallow said ”Okay, you seem to be so alone, I know what that's like... So yes, if you can promise nothing bad will happen, then okay”, Gaxinuz then smiled softly, ”Very well child” he said as he extended two of his tentacles, one pressed against her forehead, the other against her stomach, then darkness enveloped the area. Then when it all faded away, Hallow found herself where she was before she tripped, everything being the same except the fact that Gaxinuz was in front of her, slightly transparent, and invisible to others.
As dawn breaks, a haggard dwarf prepares a cart outside the gates of Neverwinter. 2 oxen reigned to the front graze while the dwarf finishes loading the last of the supplies.
A woman crosses the city gates towards the cart, she is wearing simple clothes and some nice looking black leather boots. Her hair is black with silver hues at the tips, and her green eyes contrast with her dark olive skin tone. She carries with her a staff and a backpack.
Walking with confidence, she approaches the dwarf "Good morning sir! Are you here on behalf of Grunden?"
Through the gates a large humanoid walks, he is 7" tall broad shouldered and wearing travelling clothes with leather armour over it. He has a longsword over his shoulder with his pack and is focussed on the oversized lute in his hands, plucking at the tuning pegs. He head is bald and the skin on show is a pale grey colour. Tribal tattoos are just visible on the sides of his neck. He sees the dwarf struggling with the load and puts aside his lute and grabs a crate Morning Boss, here let me help you with that.
"Aye." the dwarf replies to the human, fastening some supplies to the cart. He hops off the cart and brushes off his long, gray beard. Then, to the goliath "And I appreciate the help, lad." All that remained to load onto the cart now were a few large sacks, one of which the dwarf hoisted up over his shoulder. "There should be a few more arriving soon, then I'll be sending the lot of you off with the cart."
