The Cult of the Dragon leads the charge in an unholy crusade to bring Tiamat back to the Realms, and the situation grows more perilous for good people with each passing moment. The battle becomes increasingly political as opportunities to gather allies and gain advantage present themselves. From Waterdeep to the Sea of Moving Ice to Thay, it is a race against Evil. Succeed or succumb to the oppression of draconic tyranny. Win or lose, things will never be the same again.
Messalina smiles as she gets transported out of the castle and back down to Waterdeep. "Well, that was an experience. I'm sure that there's more work to be done, but I think that we've earned a nice little vacation, having given them a pretty large setback. How about we see what Waterdeep has to offer?" And as she waits for everyone's response, Messalina opens the bag of holding and speaks to Bell. "Hey, just letting you know that we're safe in Waterdeep."

Camilla raised her head and closed her eyes, feeling the sun on her face. It felt nice, warm, soothing. She set the Bag of Corn Chip Holding down gently, and shed her cultist gear - tossing it aside. Returning to her pants, half shirt, and long jacket, she took a moment to lay on the grass and prop herself up by the elbows and looked lazily at Waterdeep from afar. Behind her was a small congregation of kobolds, so she smiled and rolled her eyes to herself at the silly sight this would be to anyone else - but she knew Edward would know what to do.
So lets see what we have here.
We have a tiefling who doesn't remember anything about her parents who was raised on Avernus and trained to be a medical professional through a combination of skill and magic. Witnessing terrible, violent atrocities and forced to perform horrible surgeries in an effort to gain an advantage in a war she grew up in and didn't like, she fled her home to a world named Toril and almost immediately became embroiled in an adventure regarding the summoning of the Dragon Queen Tiamat from her home..to here!
Yeah. I'd say this has been quite an interesting second life so far.
"I think i'm done with travelling for now."Camilla admitted, wearily. She rolled over to her side and within a few minutes, was sound asleep.
Li'riya blinks as they're transported to outside Waterdeep. "Well...that was...something," she murmurs. "What...what now?" She quietly reassembles her double scimitar, unwrapping the leather covering the Elven glyphs so that its restored to its former appearance.
As you all rest outside the gates of Waterdeep, a raven lands a dozen paces from you, then boldly hops closer, a flat parcel wrapped in oilskin strapped to its belly. It eyes you enigmatically for a few moments, then speaks in a familiar voice. “Leosin Erlanthar sends his heartiest congratulations! Please use the instructions this bird brings to meet me in Waterdeep as soon as possible. We have much to discuss!" The bird waits patiently while the leather parcel is removed from its harness. The parcel contains a carefully folded parchment that has a time and location to meet the Council of Waterdeep.
"Did that crow just speak?"Camilla slowly wakes and asks, surprised, but not.
WATERDEEP
Apparently, the most powerful factions of the Sword Coast all recognize the significance of Tiamat’s possible return, and they are willing to cooperate with each other to prevent it. Trust doesn’t come easily for these disparate groups. But even for orders and organizations that have been in conflict in the past, the “enemy of my enemy” is easily understood. To coordinate their efforts against the Cult of the Dragon, the factions have sent important delegates for secret meetings in Waterdeep - you have been chosen to be a part of them. Based on your investigations, you know as much as anyone about the cult’s activities, and your heroics have been brought to the attention of powerful leaders and earned you a place at the council table.
THE COUNCIL
When you all arrive in Waterdeep, you are met by the Harper agent Leosin Erlanthar - the monk you saved from the cultist camp near Greenest months ago. Leosin leads you to the council at the Lord's Palace. The council thanks you all for your great deeds thus far and you all describe your experience to the council about the Cult of the Dragon.
(The Rise of Tiamat adventure revolves around you all working for the Council of Waterdeep doing missions within a total of four meeting sessions. After each session you will be sent out to a number of locations to perform a task for the Council that will deal with an attempt to hinder the Cult. At the end of the campaign, you will face off with the Dragon Queen in an attempt to stop her summoning. Based on how you all scored will affect the strength of your side at the end. That is the premise of this campaign.)
The Council of Waterdeep will conduct four sessions, each you will be a part of. Each session will require you to perform tasks based on what Council Intelligence has so far discovered about the Cult in order to stop the return of Tiamat. You can do the missions in any order, but cannot progress to the next session until all previous missions are complete.
Though every faction will provide some troops and resources toward the final showdown with the forces of Tiamat, the extent of their support — and how much effect that support will have — is dependent on the respect you all garner from your actions. Before committing irrevocably to the fight, a faction must be convinced that the cult presents a danger surpassing all other concerns — and that you are the right heroes to lead this fight. Moreover, what is worthy of respect in one faction might lose respect from another. (I will have a scorecard to keep track of your progress based on your actions in each mission.)
THE DRAAKHORN
During the introductions and before the first session, a sudden shift in the wind brought with it a strange sense of unease. The feeling is akin to the drop in air pressure before the approach of a deadly storm, or faint tremors felt from a landslide or earthquake far away. You’re not the only ones who have noticed. The city around went unnaturally quiet suddenly. No dogs barked, no birds squawked. Even the street vendors went silent. The silence lasted only a moment before the normal sounds of Waterdeep returned to mask the unexplained sensation.
A bit later, Lord Neverember spoke up, "The disturbance that’s been sensed across the Sword Coast is the Draakhorn — an ancient device whose sounding alerts dragons across Faerûn that great events are unfolding. It’s impossible to say what the sounding means, but the dragons hear it clearly and will eventually answer its call. This is not good. The next stage in the cultists plans are going into affect.”
SESSION ONE
Lord Neverember further explains, "The Cult of the Dragon has been active in Faerûn for centuries. It has focused on making undead dragons to fulfill a prophecy most of that time, but that’s changing. The leader of the Cult of the Dragon is a man named Severin Silrajin, who believes that real draconic knowledge and power belongs to living dragons, not undead ones. Severin’s ambition amused Tiamat, so she revealed the existence of five dragon masks to him—one for each chromatic dragon color. Individually, these ancient masks allow wearers to communicate with dragons. More importantly, a person who is erudite in draconic lore becomes a wyrmspeaker while wearing the mask, which allows the wearer to think like a dragon, gain favor among dragons, and subtly influence their behavior. When all five are brought together, they magically merge into a single Mask of the Dragon Queen. With the assembled mask, the cult can release Tiamat from her prison in the Nine Hells. That is what they're trying to do."
MISSION:VARRAM THE WHITE: One of Remallia Haventree’s, the sun elf Lord of Waterdeep, first acts in her fight against the Cult of the Dragon was to encourage the Harpers to focus all their resources on the cult’s activities and its most powerful members. Those efforts have been successful, and Leosin Erlanthar reports to you all of the movements of Varram, the cult’s White Wyrmspeaker. Varram was last seen in the trade settlement of Boareskyr Bridge, near the Serpent Hills. Set out and find him.
MISSION: THE SEA OF MOVING ICE: The sounding of the Draakhorn weighs heavily on all the leaders of the Sword Coast. Seeking more information on the horn and its whereabouts leads the party on an expedition to the frozen North. Travel to the Sea of Moving Ice and investigate the matter.
Return to the Council upon completion of both missions to begin SESSION TWO.
Bell didn't know much of what was going out outside of the bag, all she knew was that there was a mountain of corn chips she needed to conquer before she could even think about going back, and after what felt like a few days, all that was left were just a few crumbs from what the bag use to hold. She stuck out her beak from the bag before the changeling could tell her of their relocation, and slowly crawled herself out. You'd think with all the junk food she was eating she'd be a pleasantly plump little bird, but instead she comes out looking practically the same, just with more corn chip dust on her cloak.
She smiles up to everyone as if she didn't spend all the time, while they were getting stuff done, in a bag, only poking her head out when her kenku senses were tingling. The cleric even gave a wave to the army of kobolds Edward had amassed with no care in the world. After going and cleaning herself of the dust, she lays herself down near by Camilla and hibernates for the next two weeks (or until woken up, either way).

As they return back to Waterdeep, Astrid quickly alights to the local Harper Headquarters, and reports back to the higher-ups all that transpired. In a glorious and secret ceremony, they promote her to Harper 4th Class (Wise Owl). Returning back to the adventuring group, she's sporting a shiny new metallic pin on her lapel of an owl, which she proudly shows off to everyone.
"Right. Sooooooooooooo, who's with me? We still need to find those other masks and thwart those cultists!"
Li'riya sort of...smiles politely at Astrid's pin, but appears genuinely happy at her companion's fortune. "Well done," she murmurs. She looks down at her sword. "I...if we're going to try to properly go up against this Cult...maybe I should get my grandmother involved."
If Bell were anyone else, Messalina would be miffed that they allowed her to face the danger while eating chips from the safety of a Bag of Holding. But Messalina isn't miffed, because Bell is cute and wonderful. Instead, she pats Bell's tummy and puts her cloak over Camilla and Bell as they rest together.

OUTSIDE WATERDEEP
Camilla picked up Bell after their nap - she was a little heavier now, but not too heavy - Camilla smiled. "Bell, you ate ALL the corn chips?! Good girl! Ouff, you're all..sweaty. We'll get you more, ok? Time to go to Waterdeep and see what Leosin wants." She was glad her new friends were all ok, and was curious to see what Edward would be doing with all of HIS new friends. She snorted at the notion, smiling. Giving Bell a piggyback ride, she walked toward Waterdeep.
THE LORD'S PALACE
The Council of Waterdeep, held in the Lord's Palace, informed us of the growing concern of the Cult of the Dragon's activities, led by a man named Severin, especially now that the Draakhorn had been sounded. It was time to strike back. Personally, I wanted nothing but to start a life away from Avernus and begin anew, but what would the point be if this realm was ruled but Tiamat, who had been locked up IN Avernus for a long time and would be VERY cranky about it.
There would be four meeting sessions, and each one would require us to perform a number of tasks that would hinder the Cult's activities.
"Li'yira, who is your grandmother, and why do you think she can help?"Camilla asked her.
We were taken to a tactical planning room to discuss our first move, finding the White Wrymspeaker, Varram. He had the white dragon mask.
SESSION 1: THE FIRST SESSION / VARRAM THE WHITE / THE SEA OF MOVING ICE / THE CULT STRIKES
Harper agents have heard rumors of the theft of the White Dragon Mask by an unknown party, and Leosin has recently learned that the dwarf Varram was seen in the trade settlement of Boareskyr Bridge, near the Serpent Hills, is searching for it. With the Harpers already spread far and wide on their intelligence-gathering missions, you guys are a perfect choice to pursue the wyrmspeaker. You mission is to travel to Boareskyr Bridge, and look for clues as to where Varram is, or the White Dragon Mask, could be. You actions based on what you find will earn favor or dishonor among the factions.
"She...her name is Ka'ralya. She's been fighting the Cult of the Dragon since the beginning," Li'riya explains hesitantly. "She'll have the experience to help."
Camilla barks in a quick laugh, impressed, at the revelation of this information. "Anyone else have any amazing relatives who can help us?"
She pretends to pick up a phone and and talks into it, "Yeah, Hi. Zariel? Hi. Yeah. It's me. Camilla. Could you do me a- What? What do you mean, who. It's Camilla. You don't..really? Camilla. From Avernus. I was one of your Preceptors. What? Wow, rude!"
She hung up. "Ok, nevermind."she soured and slouched. "That didn't work."
Li'riya doesn't smile. "She's terrible at working with others, and is incredibly unyielding on her views, which are a bit...extreme. She raised me, and I still ended up leaving with her telling me to never come back."
Messalina smiles at Camilla's demonstration. "Perhaps when this is over, you should pursue a career in comedy. They say that laughter is the best medicine." And then she responds to Li'riya. "Then forget about her. We don't need a stubborn woman who cast away her family. The six of us will do just fine."
