Kalmar, following the random raid of Greenest as you were passing through, you met up with a troupe of traveling troubadours calling themselves the Phantom Player. A motley carnival consisting mostly of actors and side acts, you befriend Ringo, a halfling backup musician, while working a security detail in exchange for group travel. The two of you hit it off almost immediately, bonding over your shared wherewithal in the face of a goblin raid on the troup's amble north up the Trade Way.
Once the troupe gets to Waterdeep, and with Ringo and Kalmar bonding further along the way, the carnival's cast begins to shift in ways which no doubt will bring the Phantom Players additional Dragons (the Waterdavian gold piece) but that aren't as fully satisfying for Ringo's desire for meaningful art. Taking a liking to the halfling, Kalmar agrees to jump ship in Waterdeep saying he wants to explore and enjoy the urban sprawl.
A few weeks in to your stay, the two of you witness an interesting occurrence in a tavern, a bird-like patron you recognize as a kenku playing cards with a few others. Occasional odd noises and disturbances start happening around the bar, and one of the human patrons angrily accuses the kenku of swapping a card while the others turn to look at a window that had just slammed open. Maybe you just felt like helping the stranger out, or maybe some of the humans rub you the wrong way in their pompous demeanor, but nevertheless you two step in and diffuse the situation, making a third friend in the process.
A couple days later the Kenku, who identifies himself by duplicating the swishing and jangling sound of a trinket-laded cloak, and additionally by the mimicry of an angry shopkeep's voice, "Oi! Fluttercloak!", decides to take you to the Yawning Portal Inn and Tavern, mimicking in a booming jovial voice, "The best tavern south of the North Ward!". You walk in and sit around a sturdy wooden table lit by a brightly burning candle and littered with plates cleared of food and half-drained tankards. The sounds of gamblers yelling and drunken adventurers singing bawdy songs nearly drown out the off-key strumming of a young bard three tables over.

Ringo, standing between Kalmar and Fluttercloak, looks up at them, shrugs, and says, "I'm down for a drink ya'll. First rounds on me." He walks up to the bar, shuffling his way through the bawdy drunks, and gets the bartenders attention and say, "G'afternoon, pal. I'd like three flagons of ale if you please," and then places two silver pieces on the bar and says, "and you can keep the change." ((I am going with what it says about a mug of ale being around 4 cp)). As the bartender goes to fetch the ales Ringo looks around the room again and focuses on the bard three tables.
So, this is the Yawning Portal, huh? Not too shabby... Kal looks around the tavern, focusing on the card and dice games seeing if any of them look worth joining.. perception5
Kalmar, it's certainly easy enough to tell that a trio of humans are playing a game of dice off to the side while nearer to the bar an old halfling stands on his chair to meet the eyes of his three human and one dwarven companions as he deals out cards. You're not sure in the thick of the evening crowd but there's likely to be other groups of gamblers as well.
Ringo, Fluttercloak opens his beak to emit the brief words of a feeble sounding child followed by a hearty sounding dwarf, "-so thirsty...-HAHA! A Good idea!" He follows Ringo to the bar. The thickly mustachioed bartender nods amicable at Ringo, slides the coins off the bar, and walks to the side where he begins to fill a trio of tankards with a frothy dark amber ale from one of several large barrels.
As the barkeep does his work, Ringo peers at the young bard, who looks slightly awkwardly but pleased at the crowd of drunkards singing along to his meager playing.

Cheers, lads.Kalmar takes a long pull from his ale and sighs in contentment. Now, lets find a dice game or some work, my purse is close to jingling it’s last jangle and I need a steady flow of coin to maintain the lifestyle I’ve become accustomed to.
“Remind me again what lifestyle that it, Kal?” Ringo says with a smirk. “You go find a game and I’ll join ya after I have a heard with my fella musician over there,” he says with a tilt of his head.
"Indeed..." a smooth female elven voice speaks from Fluttercloak's beak. He tilts his head back completely and pours a measured amount of ale into his beak before looking at Kalmar heedingly.
Ringo, the man looks up, startled. "Huh? Oh, i-it's just an old folk tune," he stammers, eyeing the horn affixed to your gear. "T-the Tale of Nimoar's Hold. I...I'm trying to practice in front of an audience before the Brightswords celebration." He looks down at you eagerly, at once betraying his excitement and desire for approval.
