The guard looks like he's about to respond testily, but meets Ranaer's eye at the last minute. "Ahh...Neverember is it?"he says. "Staget,"Ranaer replies politely. "And you four dashed in to investigate?"He gives you a look. "What have we got?" he barks over your shoulder. "More Guild and Network blood," comes the reply. "Tch...Look, it's best not to meddle in criminal matters, you should leave this dirty business to the watch. What did you see?"

Not much I’m afraid, officer. Kalmar takes a step towards Staget and half stumbles as he winces in pain and clutches at his wound. My friends and I were there when the troll burst out in the Yawning Portal, that’s where I picked up this scratch. We were walking off the adrenaline before going to rest up when we heard the ruckus in here. Looks like this lot did for that lot and maybe we scared the last ones off when we came barging in. A lucky thing, too. I don’t think we would have stood much of a chance in a fight. We were just about to escort Ranear here home when you all came in. We’ve no desire to get mixed up in whatever this guild and network business is, I do my best to steer clear of criminal types, I had some run ins with them back west. So if you’d let us be on our way we’d prefer to be gone before any of their eyes show up.
The guard peers at you with a hard look. He seems the sort who's been on the beat long enough to know exactly how many ****s he needs to give in a professional capacity in any given setting. "Boy you steer clear of whoever you want, just keep the blood off the streets."He reaches into a fold of his cloak, pulling out three copies of an official looking document. He hands one to each of the party members, saying, "Alright you four, move along. And review the code, not all City Watch officers are as nice as me."

Kal takes the parchment, folds it, and puts it in his pocket. Somewhere on his face a smile and a wink don’t quite show up. Much obliged, officer. We’ll leave this to the professionals and be on our way. Lads, Ranear, lets let these men get to work. If everyone is in agreeance Kal will make a move for the door before anything else gets cocked up.
Ringo nods at the guard as he hands Kalmar the copies of the Winterfell laws. Ringo takes his copy from Kalmar, bows at the guards, elbows Fluttercloack in the ribs to bow to, and they follow Kalmar out of the building. Once outside Ringo looks up at his companions and says, "let's find us a manhole!"
Kalmar nods at Ringo and then looks back over his shoulder at the watchmen. Ringo my friend, might I speak to you over a pace for a moment. He walks with Ringo a little ways away. Cloak, will you keep Ranear safe for a moment while I confer with Ringo? Kalmar lowers his voice as he and Ringo step aside for ample time. I don’t want these lawmen seeing us going into the sewers, we’ve got these valuables to unload, and you and I are both cut to shit. Now, we know where our man Floon is, he’s at the Xanathar hideout, and we know that they don’t actually want him... so here’s what I propose. We get Ranear someplace safe, collect the reward, get these goods offloaded or at least stashed someplace safe, get a night’s rest, and go see Xanathar tomorrow to bargain for Floon. He shouldn’t be too expensive since he’s just a local drunk. Maybe we could even trade some info.He pats his pocket I found some correspondence back in the office back there. Might be worth something to this Xanathar character. Let’s go regroup, look over our resources, and attack this problem fresh after some rest.
The three party members, accompanied by Renaer Neverember, exit the Zhentarim warehouse and back onto Candle Lane, its now familiar darkness settling over you like a murky fog, a sign of the mysterious unfolding tale of the three strange adventurers who now call each other companions.
As you all proceed, Fluttercloak nods his agreement, patting Renaer on the back and speeding up to lead the noble a few paces ahead of you two. You hear them begin to murmur in conversation, and Fluttercloak nods and begins to make his way forward more purposefully.

Ringo keeps a watchful eye behind them (Perception: 6 ) as they double-step down the near empty streets. Agreeing with Kalmar earlier about getting Renaer to safety, collecting his award, meet with Volo and renegotiating about Floon, and, most importantly for Ringo, getting a good nights rest.
Renaer and Fluttercloak lead onward, heading north toward the border between the dock and castle wards. After several minutes walk and conversation Kalmar and Ringo, the Waterdavian noble slows his pace to rejoin the two of you. "Again, profound thanks to all of you, I thought I was a goner. You've found an ally in Renaer, that's for sure. Look, I have a home in the Sea Ward but I really don't use it; I'd be happy to be escorted to any of my haunts." Fluttercloak cocks his head curiously, croaking out, "why--kidnap?" Renaer slows ruminantly before responding. “The Zhentarim thinks that my father embezzled a large amount of gold while he was Open Lord, and that he hid the dragons somewhere in the city. They think they can find it by using an artifact called the Stone of Golorr, which was in the hands of the Xanathar Guild until recently. Apparently, someone stole it. The Zhents thought I knew something about all of this, but I don’t. My father and I haven’t spoken in years.”
At this point the ragtag group has travelled about a quarter mile, and Renaer stops in front of yet another inn, saying, "I can easily find lodging here, do call upon me if you need anything else. I said you'd be rewarded for saving me and I'm good for my word. Here." He reaches into his fine robes and pulls out a trio of items: a potion of healing, a potion of climbing, and a scroll of identify. He hands one to each of you, the potions of healing and climbing to Kalmar and Fluttercloak respectively, and the scroll to Ringo*.
With a final respectful nod and a "'Til next time!", the noble enters the tavern. The three party members are left outside to decide their next course of action
*Ringo:
Curiously, it seems as though there's an extra piece of paper folded into the scroll. It is small, with a symbol on it.
Kalmar calls out to Ranear Just a second, Ranear, I couldn’t help notice you mentioned the house you have a home in the seaward you don’t use, would the three of us be able to stay there for a short while? Just till we get on our feet like? We’ve got a payment coming when we rescue Floon, but now we’re a bit cash poor. We’d take care of it and keep out any undesirables. And, if it looks lived in, it may make it harder for those goons to try to grab you again.
The nobleman waves his arm magnanimously. In the brighter light of the tavern front you see he's somewhat older than you had noticed, approaching middle aged. "Of course! My friends have an open invitation to use the Neverember House as they please, and you three certainly fit that bill! You'll find it on Feather Street --a four story house, can't miss it-- but I haven't been in quite some time." He reaches into his cloak, pulling out a ring of identical looking keys, giving one to you.

Kalmar takes the key and shakes Ranear’s hand If you get the feeling anything is off or something gives you the spook, you come stay with us there. Or if you want to come with us now, we can all keep an eye out for each other, up to you of course. But whatever you decide we are very grateful.
He turns to Fluttercloak and Ringo. You’ve got the right of it, Flutter. Let’s go crash, stash, and check out the sewers.
The three party members make their way north up the Way of the Dragon and onto the High Road. It is now fully night, and as you make the fairly long journey through the city you can't help but feel as though the shadier elements of the city are coming out of the woodwork, though nothing interrupts your journey. Turning left off the High Road you enter the Sea Ward, a much nicer and well put together neighborhood than the one you just left. You follow Renaer's directions and turn onto Feather Street, an impressive four-story building standing not much taller than the others. A modest banner with three snowflakes on it hangs over the door.
((Let me know how you'd like to proceed and please feel free to retcon any action/interaction into the journey.))

Alright, an hour’s kip would do us all well I think. Then we can explore the sewers a bit. I doubt we’ll be able to get Floon back through stealth. They’re sure to have that place guarded tighter than an emperor’s concubines, but a bit of reconnoitering wouldn’t go amiss. Kalmar steps forward, puts the key in the lock, and opens the door. I call top bunk.
The house is empty, dusty, and quite luxurious, cobwebs lightly accentuating the corners and surfaces. There are a number of rooms you could set up shop in to rest in, but it is quite late, do we want to take a short rest then explore at night or sleep til morning? Also what are we doing with the goods?
