Demetriod (who I know got a nat 20, don't worry) and Meiara don't see any undead or fiends in the area. However, they do notice that the people here seem a great deal more nervous than in most villages, and that the crops at the edges of the fields are far less lovingly tended than those in the closer, safer areas.
OOC: My phone has decided to shut down because it's a little *****. I will not be on Discord for a few hours until I get home and can pull it up on my computer or get my phone sorted out. I should still be here on and off because Stat is boring and easy today.
Demetrios is thankful to see no fiends as of yet, but frowns as he realizes how frightful the townspeople look. He steadies Caramel to a stop upon approaching the first villager he sees (or that doesn’t hide away). “Excuse me, sir/madame, we are of the Edgewalkers, here to help rid this town of the undead and fiends that plague it. Could you perhaps lead or direct us to your mayor or to someone of authority?”

Nobody is shrinking away-your gear clearly bears the seal of the Edgewalkers and people would likely be trailing behind you if they didn't have duties. A young man with a basket of picked corn bows to Demetrios as he is addressed. "Certainly, sir! I can bring you to Priest Olarin, if you will follow me. He is at the hanbanali in the village, praying for the il-altas to protect us in these dark times."
Lore: Most villages have a hanbanali monolith as their religious center. There are usually monoliths scattered through the countryside as well to maintain the many blessed effects they have (yes, sometimes I read the stuff I write and want to puke as well, but this shit is how it's presented in Riedra, lol). Monoliths can be anywhere from a couple to a dozen miles apart.
Meiara dismounts her horse, removing her sandals and putting them in her bag as she does so. "You did an excellent job of carrying me, Tournesol, but I missed having the earth under my feet." She follows Demetrios and Jenna as they are led to Priest Olarin. Meiara also smiles and waves at any villagers that look at them as they pass through.
If any required their horses to be guided to walk unimpeded, Vusgaar quietly steps for the task. But otherwise, the Ursine Shifter is as quiet as he's ever been; wary and observant, but as taciturn as always. He trails behind the others as well, acknowledging any strangers seen with a nod as they went along their course. Though on occasion he pauses to sniff at the air; especially when a wind happens to favor travel from the outer edge of the farms.

"We all appreciate the assistance, good sir." Demetrios bows slightly, then turns to look at the others with a nod. Seeing as most of them had already dismounted, he went and did the same. He gives Caramel a pat on the neck before following behind the civilian who so graciously decided to help them.

The man leads you to the center of the village, where the steel shell of a hanbanali monolith looms above the other buildings. He gestures towards one of the apertures in the side of the steel shell. "Priest Olarin is in there."
"Thank you, sir." Demetrios says, letting the man depart before he hitches his steed wherever possible. He would lead the group to the entrance the civilian had pointed out to them, peeking his head in first prior to entering to make sure he wouldn't be interrupting something important. "I apologize for the intrusion," He starts. "We are the group of Edgewalkers that had been assigned here to help your town with the issues at hand by Lady Shiharan." He gestures over to the rest of the team and bows to the priest."We are at your service."

Inside the monolith is a human with tanned skin and graying hair, kneeling in front of the crystal pillar that forms the heart of the structure. He finishes his prayer as Demetrios looks, in, and rises as you five enter.
The inside of the monolith is the packed dirt of the surrounding ground, with eight ten foot openings spaced evenly around the circumference of the steel shell. A gently pulsing glow emanates from the ten foot pillar of crystal in the middle, warming the inside of the monolith to a comfortable temperature and illuminating it with a diffuse light.
The priest bows as you enter. "Truly, we are honored at your presence," he says with a touch of awe. "I thank the il-altas that you were sent now, before the attacks become any worse. The loss of the monolith a few miles from here was a grave blow, and weakened the protective net of the il-altas for miles around."
Demetrios’ expression goes solemn. “As we’ve heard... We come to you seeking additional information from what we were briefed with, if you do not mind.” He keeps his tone formal despite the flurry of emotions he held inside. These poor people depended on the protection of the monolith from outer threats, and he couldn’t image the terror they had gone through from the first attack onwards. It angered him. “Firstly, where exactly was the monolith? Would it be possible to be escorted there?”

Priest Olarin nods. "The monolith is about four miles to the east. I can ask one of the Harmonious Shield soldiers here to escort you to it. I will warn you, we don't know what fiends are stalking the area. You may be attacked."
“We will be sure to keep our eyes out for any creatures about the area. Thank you for the warning.” Demetrios stays silent for a bit, allowing the others to propose any questions they had, taking note himself of what the priest answers with. He finally frowns hearing that there have been no survivors, and gives a wary look over the group, wiping away a worrying thought. They were all capable people, they wouldn’t be here if they weren’t otherwise.
”I am sorry for your losses,” He says grimly. “Would you happen to know how often do these attacks occur?”

"It's not regular. It started about two weeks ago, and there have been five in that time. Six dead, two so badly wounded they passed on soon after." He shakes his head. "All people on the outskirts of the village. Three attacks were on two villagers and a soldier who were alone, one was on a pair of the farmers headed back late, and the last..." He shakes his head sadly. "Three children. Their friend was around the corner and heard the screams, but got us too late." He glances up. "She might be able to tell you a little, although she ran straight to us and only arrived to the aftermath, like the rest of us. But she was in the area when it happened."
