Over lunch, or maybe after, Saba admires Corbin's sharpshooting To ignore range - and cover too? basically hitting stuff that looks small? - that skill is an ambition of mine. I'm a good enough shot that I'm willing to take the risk at times, but I want to learn more.
Fighting with others is easy to learn - they don't call soldiers "grunts" out of irony - be willing to call out to, and listen to, your allies. We two are likely to see more of the big picture than Drako here, for example, hitting the nearest thing until it falls. We make sure he always has something to hit and not too many have the chance to hit him. He makes sure everything is far away from the wizards. Trust and attention - all that it takes to fight together are trust and attention.

Corbin stares blankly at Drako for a few seconds while searching through yesterday's brain files. "Oh! The key!"
He searches through pockets and backpack until he finds it and holds it up to inspect it. "Weird if you ask me. I doubt this actually opens anything. Let's ask around!" Corbin, and Drako if he tags along, will search for one of the wizards.
"By the way, do you happen to know how I got back to the ship?"
Yes, Drako will tag along. I'm assuming the key thing will take place after lunch since before lunch, it seems everyone is talking about tactics and Drako wants to help the cook cook lunch. If it is actually happening before lunch, Drako will not help cook since the key is more important.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hmmm, Mystery Key, you said he called it? Ephraim looks giddy as he lays the key down and walks around it, inspecting it from every angle. And a beholder gave it to you? Very interesting, very interesting indeed.
Ephraim will ritual cast detect magic and make an arcana check: 24
Well, neither I or Nutsy have ever heard of anything like this. Perhaps that small fellow might have seen this before?
"A Master Key sounds intriguing. Hmmm, let's see what we can learn." Orryn will pick up the key and hold it in his hand, inspecting it closely. He'll then close his eyes and concentrate for the next 10 minutes. (Ritual casting identify and an arcana check: 22)
And so we may, young dragonborn. But seeking to understand it first will not hurt us. Unless it does...it is from a beholder, after all. Should be interesting to see which one, eh?

Back and ready to DM and chew bubblegum. And I'm alllll outta bubblegum.
Delkin will approach Saba, I am going to be honest with you. I have never really been in a fight before. I sparred a lot at the monastery....but an actual fight, not really. Based on your appearance I can tell you have been in a lot of fights, any tips would be appreciated. Delkin stares at Saba expectantly, unaware he was a little insulting.
Well brother Saba is answering Delkin but also holding forth in general, because she is like that from my experience movement and position are the keys to melee. You don't want to be ganged up on, so use terrain and your allies to limit your enemies' access. Keep them bottled up so they reach you one at a time. Second, you gotta know that if you run away from or past someone, they can get an extra attack in. And vice versa - you can attack them if they move. If you can move without provoking an attack you can take the initiative. If you get the other guy to move, you or your allies get to cause damage. Learn this, and you are halfway to winning.
Look, no one can handle a fight themselves - we all need to help each other. Talk to each other, call out advice and listen to theirs. No ego ever survived a war.
Well, I will not lie. That was pretty much everything I know as well. It seems, perhaps, I am more ready for the real thing than I thought. Thank you Saba. It means a lot, even though I already knew all that. Delkin then moves to the tables for lunch without looking back.
The veteran has a sad smile as Delkin walks away. If only she had a copper for every recruit that said "I know that" (including herself at 14). "Ev'r'thing you know" she quotes an old drill instructor under her breath "en't ev'r'thing I knows"

When Drako sees Corbin and if he's alone, Drako will pull him to one side and ask him, "Did you ask the magic guys about the key?"
