With a glare towards where the woman passed and a shake of the head, Saba glances to catch the attention of a couple of her more grizzled-veteran-looking peers. While Orryn studies his notes, an errant breeze blows one page away. Snapping his fingers a spectral hand floats out and grabs it. Hearing the bustle aboard the ship, he glances up.
"Time for an adventure then. Here we go!" Orryn hurries up the gangplank and joins the others below deck.
He turns to Saba, "Some friends mentioned the Lord's Alliance had a bit of trouble recently. Perhaps that's why all the gruff?"
Not knowing what to make of the eclectic mix of adventurers gathered around him, Aethos wanders with the others below deck.
Speaking loudly to no-one in particular, Aethos declares, "This is surely a most fortuitous day! One doth believe this will be a grand expedition, a GRAND expedition indeed."
As you all arrive belowdeck, you are all greeted by an array of crates and barrels scattered around the room. The woman, still frustrated, announces through her teeth, "Have a seat. My name is Lady Eliadra Doorhall." She remains standing. "I'm afraid that much of this mission is need-to-know. This ship is setting sail for the Moonshae Isles, but that's not our final destination. I desire for the crew to be kept from the true destination. Otherwise, they'd abandon ship if they knew where we were going. My plan was to hire experienced adventurers to spur the crew onward. We'll set sail to Orlumbar before we go to the Moonshaes. Your job, as representatives of Waterdeep, will be to report directly to myself and Captain Darrows, with my tasks being of higher priority. And you will mention none of this to the crew. I have a confidentiality contract for you all to sign. At the end of this adventure, each of you will divide twenty percent of any treasure we collect in addition to a thousand gold pieces to be paid upon the completion of the mission. Additional rewards may apply based on service, heroism, and overall contributions. I will gain ten percent, with Waterdeep receiving sixty percent. The captain gets five percent, and the crew divides the other five among themselves."
She places the paper on an upturned barrel along with a bottle of ink and a quill. The contract simply agrees that until otherwise notified, you will not disclose any information to anyone outside of the mission. Various legal penalties apply if it is discovered this contract is broken by means except torture or magical means.
"Are there any questions?"

At every session, I say, "Everyone's here, except Waluigi."
Saba kind of nods along with the points, acting un-phased at the intrigue. She assumed secrets and danger were part of the gig.
Not sure where you put the comma, ma'am. A thousand each, we divide the thousand, or we divide twenty percent of the thousand? And, shares to survivors only, or can we count on something to our next of kin? And another and: what resources do we have to make this mission a success?

"Twenty percent of the treasures we collect will be divided among you. In addition, the Lords of Waterdeep have permitted me to give you each a thousand gold pieces upon completion. I will supply any necessary materials and resources required. How you all divide up your treasures is up to you," she replies. "Though most of you are new to adventuring, so I would suggest agreeing to send to the next of kin. Seasoned adventurers, who are less likely to get killed easily aren't usually going to agree to that cause."

We've discussed it, Nutsy shall continue in my stead should I fall. He's well aware of the danger! Go ahead, sign for us!
Another spectral hand appears, and the squirrel jumps in it. It floats to the table, where it grabs the pen, signs Ephraim Hornstock with a flourish, and then the squirrel dips its paw in the ink and puts a print next to the name.

Back and ready to DM and chew bubblegum. And I'm alllll outta bubblegum.
Furrowing his brow a little, Aethos looks deeply into Lady Doorhall's eyes, "I find it most unpalatable discussing the business of finances, my lady. Though if it doth put thy mind at ease I shall sign, post-haste."
At that Aethos takes the paper and scribbles down his initials by way of signature ((the writing looks messy, barely legible)).
Delkin stands, My lady...would it not be better for us to speak honestly to the crew? I would think once they find out our destination that could lead to potential issues.
He hesitates, looking around. Not wanting to lose this opportunity for exploration he moves forward and signs the paper.
Squatting to look at the monk seriously, Saba says quietly I get what you mean, but the general doesn't consult the private on matters of strategy. Honesty will get you nowhere or worse. Could you guarantee none of the crew - who we haven't met - would work against us?
Then looking up at Lady Doorhall It seems like you are appropriately serious about winning ma'am. I will be too
Once there seems to be agreement, Saba stands and signs

"They wouldn't hire us if it were that dangerous."
As an afterthought, his eyes dart around him looking for an interlocutor and rest on Aethos.
"Right?"
Corbin walks up to sign the document.
"Lady Doorhall, I would appreciate if Captain Darrows were to give me something to do on the ship while we travel. Being busy helps with my... uh... to keep my head clear."
Returning Corbin's gaze, Aethos inclines his head a little with a smile on his face.
"Feareth not Sir, I doth believe that we are in most capable company", Aethos's looks around at the assembled group, "yes... most capable company, indeed!".
Delkin looks up at Saba and says quietly, I know there are times when the truth must be withheld and I am comfortable with that, but lying to a person and sending them unwillingly into danger, I am not ok with. Honesty brings about trust and alliance. Lies tend to end in danger and death.
"And here I was hoping I could slack for a while. I guess the milk will have to wait."
Corbin follows the group below deck, nodding to crewmen as he goes past.

Delkin follows the old man and squirrel as they head below deck.
"Is that stone special or do you just like the taste of rocks?"

He pops the stone out of his mouth again:
PRESTIDIGITATION! Never loses its flavor, my boy!
He cackles wildly and waves his hand, there's a pop, sizzle, the smell of grapes, and then he pops it back in his mouth.
