"Listen, I'm not going to argue. Simply withholding information is not a lie. I'm merely not communicating the ultimate destination," Eliadra replied. "I have word that we are almost ready to depart. If you have farewells or business to care for in the city, I would do so today. I expect to see you at dawn."

Ephraim retreats to a corner and begins emptying out the pockets of his robes. He pulls out scrolls, scraps of papers, acorns, and several small stones before finally producing small pair of spectacles.
Ah! There they are. The price of a long life, these. Good thing there's some young people here, eh Nutsy? Hah! Nothing for an old man in Waterdeep, we shall remain here methinks.
He gathers up some of the scraps and scrolls and begins comparing them after reflavoring his rock.

Back and ready to DM and chew bubblegum. And I'm alllll outta bubblegum.
Had I known we'd have the time, an advance on the thousand would have been nice. I'm down to my last few dragons, so a big night or new supplies are out. But a last meal with fresh food and a decent drink are good before a voyage. Any takers?
If there is a split, Saba will join the quiet dinner crowd not the party crowd. She'll go looking for a meal with fruit and veg and a pint of cider

"Tradition in Waterdeep does dictate that before an adventure, you stay at the Yawning Portal," Eliadra conceded. She scratched down a note on another paper. "One night all-expense paid night at the Yawning Portal. Give this to the Innkeeper. Don't answer any questions about the expedition. Especially from Xanathar - he makes it his business to know EVERYTHING." (Yes, that was a reference that I couldn't resist) She hands Saba the note. It summarizes that the Council will redeem the note for the full value of the stay. She narrows her eyes and growls, "If I find you one second late after sunrise, I will have Captain Darrows put you in the brig for three days and then hang you upside down from the crow's nest for the next three. Am I clear? Don't make me regret this." She picked up the paper and examined the signatures and smiled as she rolled up the paper. "Have fun! I'll see you bright and early," her smile turned almost malicious, "or later."

At every session, I say, "Everyone's here, except Waluigi."
Completely oblivious to any ill-will / negative vibes being given off by Eliadra, Aethos steps forward "Many thanks, my lady. Worryst not about mine or my companions tardiness, thou shalt see us well before sunrise!"
Turning to Saba, Aethos continues, "I wouldst be most charmed to dine with thou this eve, my lady... A pleasure to make thine acquaintance - I am Aethos, Aethos Mimbrath." Aethos bows deeply; bowing forward, left arm across his stomach, right arm raised behind in a flourish.
A red dragonborn arrives late. Under normal circumstances the dragonborn would have drawn everyone's attention but today was different. Today he was able to blend in with the crowd because the crowd consisted mostly of adventurers and sailors. The scaly man stands over 7 feet (7ft 1 inch) tall. His clean chainmail glitters in the light. Bright red scales cover his exceptionally muscular body. His physique gives off the impression that he'd be able to hold his own in an arm-wrestling contest with an ape. A large long sword hangs from his brown belt and a kite shield hangs at his back. He says to the captain, "Sorry boss. I hope I'm not too late to join in the adventure. I kind of overslept. I'm willing to work aboard the ship to make it up." The man's voice is loud and deep, though it is obvious that he it is naturally so. He isn't raising his voice on purpose.

To Eliadra Saba says: Thank you, Lady Doorhall, I'll take your advice of course - but if the YP is the traditional place for adventurers, isn't that the exact place we shouldn't go if keeping a secret? The presence of a battalion says something to the enemy even if none of them says anything, ma'am. With a promissory note from the Lords as well. Cash is quieter, if you get my meaning.
Unless...Since we don't know anything, ma'am, we can't really spill, but if we 'accidentally' dropped a red herring - is there some destination you'd like us to imply?
To Aethos and anyone else collecting for the dinner run: Well met, comrades. Saba Brzinsk, if we haven't yet, spelled as if there were vowel rationing. Shall we dine out but sleep aboard - to ensure the night's none too late and the dawn none too early?
"Ah, most of you lot are so obvious that you'll stand out as traveling adventurers no matter what you do; best to keep the lot of you together. At least at the Yawning Portal you won't be the only fresh faces with no idea of what they're heading into."
Says the mysterious blue elf. But point taken - very clever at that. Hide in plain sight, like a trooper in formation. Coming to dinner, friend with no name?
Noting enough fellows to make a decent outing, Saba will make her way with the group. It seems early for dinner, we can stop along the way for items we might need. Saba does want at least traveler's clothes to replace the ratty common togs she has - the only way she has to keep warm is an extra blanket.

Hmmm....Yawning Portal, eh? Perhaps I will take a stroll with you. As long as you don't mind a raggedy old man tagging along with you, because Nutsy will want to come as well!
He starts stuffing all the odds and ends back in his pockets and gets up to join the group.
"Name's Virn. And if I'm the first sea elf you've seen, then it's an easy wager you've never been out on the waves before." His tone is dry but not unfriendly. "I'll be at the Yawning Portal, sure enough."
I was talking to Aethos about getting Eliadra to dine with her, but Saba failed her check.
"Orlumbar is our first destination. Tell them that's all you know," Eliadra nodded. "At least you all have some common sense. And you are welcome to join us, sir, though I am not the Captain. One of your companions will catch you up. I only need you to sign this waver promising absolute secrecy." She unrolls the paper and slides it to the newcomer.
Drako signs the waver with a toothy grin and stands among the other adventurers (PCs) he'll be joining on the adventure. He says to the others, "So I haven't introduced myself yet. I'm Drako Ennete. Call me Drako. So we are heading for the Yawning Portal for a large meal before the adventure begins proper?"
Ah, but what is truth, but the perception of our reality? Some would rather have cleverly wrapped, comfortable lies than naked truth.
He appears to address this to the squirrel.

“If you want to keep something a secret, write it in a book and put it in our library. Half our books nobodies read! But on a ship? Good luck dearie.”

Saba is about to argue with Delkin, but hearing the other voices, thinks better of it. She offers her hand:
You're an honest person, Brother...Delkin was it? I am Saba...Never loose that and may it never harm you. If only we could all be...

"Ahh yes... yes. Well met Drako. I doth believe the group wast just about to maketh their way into town... to the Yawning Portal as thoust mentioned."
Aethos subtly ((not subtly at all)) sides up to Saba whispering, "Maychance thou knoweth the way? Perhaps it is best if thou leadst..."
With that Aethos smiles warmly at Saba and gently pats her on the back.
