Kazri knocks on the door of the townmaster's hall when she finds the door locked.
The townmaster’s hall has sturdy stone walls, a pitched wooden roof, and a bell tower at the back. The job board next to the front door features a sparse number of notices, all written in Common and in the same hand.
Looking around she sees that there are very few people walking about and those that are seem to be in a hurry. They glance up at the sky and then move quickly and get indoors as quick as they can.
After a minute of knocking she decides no one is there or no one will answer.
Kazri begrudgingly goes back to the group. "It seems that we have no choice but to take on one of those quests, and hopefully we can meet this Mr. Wester once completed. I believe it is late to go anywhere today, at any rate. Perhaps you all can take care of whatever business that you wish to take care of, and we can meet later at the inn? I would like to find out if there is a temple in this town, and pay my respects if there is one."

Chill chuckles and nudges Rhogar. He then points at Krom. "That's a dwarf." as he laughs some more.
Just prior to his marching off to the Inn on his own earlier, Rhogar pauses long enough to look Krom up and down, then brightly smiles. "Ooooh! Now I see... What a rude name for a people. But, you westerners have your ways." He says as he continued on his way.

Chip would have been playing a small tune on his horn as the group was looking over the job board, eventually putting the instrument down when it looks as though there is a decision to be made. "Let's just look at what we have here.... I mean.. obviously you just take whatever job pays the most! Higher paying jobs must be more dangerous right! More danger means more renown!" The brass scaled dragonborn would say with a goofy grin. "I say we go visit the gnomes and then the dwarves! We could set out first thing tomorrow! And tonight I can see if I can get us some free food and board by playing in the local tavern!" Chip would say excitedly with a few squawks on his horn. "These folks have never experianced anything like me before!"
Krom gives a big laugh hearing the banter between Rhogar and Chili, "'Rhogar, I'm glad that know you know what a dwarf is." "I think that we should check the acolyte of Chauntea first then pay a visit to my fellow dwarves."

Krom, having spent some time in the village, can give you basic information about each place.
Barthen’s Provisions stocks most ordinary goods and supplies, including backpacks, bedrolls, rope, and rations. Barthen’s doesn’t stock weapons or armor, but you can purchase other adventuring gear here, with the exception of items that cost more than 25 gp.
Lionshield Coster keeps a supply of armor and weapons, all of which are for sale to interested buyers.
Miners go to Phandalin Miner’s Exchange to have their valuable finds weighed, measured, and paid out. The exchange is a great place to meet people who spend a lot of time out and about in the countryside surrounding Phandalin.
Phandalin’s only temple is a shrine made of stones taken from the nearby ruins. It is dedicated to Tymora.
The Stonehill Inn is a modest, two-story roadhouse near the town square.
Krom-
Krom has only been in town for a short period of time and had been staying at the Stonehill Inn. He has not yet found a suitable location for his forge and doesn't really know anyone in town.
Kazri is informed that the town's only shrine is located across from the inn. She is curious that the town would have a shrine dedicated to Tymora, the goddess of good fortune.
She walks to the shrine and kneels down on one knee, removes the gauntlet from one hand, and touches the shrine. "Fortune favors the bold, Goddess Tymora." She then says a small prayer for her companions and heads to the inn.

Chip would make his way to the in, pushing his way through the door and making his way to the barkeep. "Greeting friend! The name is Chip! Chip Tune-Tail.. perhaps you have heard of my prestigious family! I was hoping that in exchange for my musical talents you might lend me a room and meals during my stay in this wonderful town of yours!" Chip would say with a smile as he leans heavily against the bar. "I assure you with ME playing in your inn, you will no doubt double or triple your nightly income! " He would boast with a small chuckle.. "I can sing.. I can dance.. and I play a number of instruments! I am a triple threat!.." The dragonborn would say as he snaps his fingers and sends four glowing orbs of light spinning around his hand. "Now when I am not helping to make your inn LOADS of coin, my friends and I are planning to do some good around town before taking care of that dragon problem we have heard about. Do you think that maybe you might allow us all to stay here free of charge... with food and drink included?... I assure you that you will be making out like a king from the deal. Perhaps I could perform for you.. and really show you exactly what callaber of performer you are dealing with?" He would ask as he pulls a lute from his back.
The party makes their way to the Stonehill Inn. Inside they find a small inn that at the moment is empty. There are no other patrons.
The proprietor is a short, friendly male human named Toblen Stonehill who welcomes you as you come inside.
As you inquire about rooms he advises they are 5 silver a night plus 1 silver for meals.
"Ain't too much business right now with all the dragon talk. Folks are scared and they stay at home. Some folk claim to have seen the dragon flying through the high clouds. At that distance, it’s hard to gauge the creature’s size, but some say it’s as big as an elephant and has gleaming white scales. All I know is the dragon is bad for business."
He looks interested in Chip's offer.
"I can offer you room and board if you'll play each day in the evenings. Maybe word of a bard will draw some drinking customer's back in. But the rest of ya will have to pay. I only got the six rooms as it is. Can't be givin' my whole living away, specially with business down as it is. But you folks looks pretty capable. Adventurers here for the dragon I suppose? Ol' Harbin Wester, Phandalin’s duly appointed townmaster, is offering some work in that line. Pays pretty decent too. But I'm too old for that sorta thing now. Maybe one day in my youth, but those days are gone. If you can get that coward Harbin to answer his door he'll tell ya what needs to be done. He lives in a house east of the townmaster’s hall. So what'll it be?"
Towards the end of the reply, Rhogar snaps out of the tourist dazy having found the Inn less interesting with no one about to gawk at save the owner. "5 silver a night.. that is.. Unfortunate, to say the least. BUT, any and all would have only their own... *coughs*... Here you are my good sir!"He passes over 2 gold to pay for 3 nights and a meal, mentioning not or seeming to care about having overpaid at the moment.
"On the subject of dragons, you are not far off the mark! And while our journey here has been with little peril to truly test our limits as a whole, it would be fool hardy -- NAY, utter stupidty to think that alone qualifies as proof of ability. Thus, we seek to aid in other ways around here first. To get the lay of the land, and prepare you soft, goodly folk for when the tribulations TRULY begin." He says his point of view while occasionally gesturing back to any other. "One such business in fact involved looking into many a people to the south of here. Now, I know you may not know much having bound yourself to the simple tending of this place. But if you would know anything of this acolyte Chauntae by the name of Adabra Gwynn? For I, at least, find myself curious why any of you would live so far apart. And if you might have any clues that others overlooked."
Kazri puts her large kite shield down, leaning against the table. "Greetings Mr. Stonehill. My friend Mr. Nimbatuul is correct. We are not prepared to deal with a dragon directly, but we must learn more about it first." She also gives the innkeeper 2 pieces of gold.
"What is the special today? I will have that and I would like to pay for a room for myself. And some water please. Perhaps we can bring some needed business to your establishment tonight. So, have you personally seen this dragon? What can you tell us about this townmaster of yours? I just knocked on the townmaster's hall and no one answered. And, lastly, I am sorry for some many questions. Does anybody in town looks after the shrine to goddess Tymora?"

Chip would give his distant dragonborn relative a bit of space as he begins chatting with the Barkeep, smiling along and nodding his head. When a small window of opportunity opens up, Chip would speak up. "Yes! Sounds great! Every night o preform will be the best night of your life! Dont you worry!" He would say with a smile before allowing Rhogar to continue.
Chill follows the others to the inn. He listens as the others speak. Chip seemed a capable bard for the most part. He had spent a couple nights listening to him at the Carnath Roadhouse. But this was a small town and the road led only to Phandalin as far as he could see so they might not see a bard traveling through very often.
Chill was content to allow the others to question the man for the moment.
He paid for 3 nights as had the others. After being shown to his room he left his gear and headed back to the common room.
"In my experience the presence of strangers like us in town will likely bring the curious out, dragon or not. Hopefully our presence will aid your business good sir."
Rekuberk listens and then gets up to head for the door. "Well we have an idea of where the townmaster lives. Perhaps I may be able to get him to answer. While my parents have the true renown I have been on a few quests before this myself so perhaps that will convince him." The half orc goes out the door and if it is not to late to show up without appearing rude he will go to knock on the door of Harbin Wester.
As Krom enters the Inn he says, "Hello again Tolben, if you recall I stayed here for a few days. As you can see this time, I'm with a good group of adventurers, hopefully we will able to do something about this dragon so the town can return as it was before." "I will take a room for 2 nights with 2 meals and if you don't mind I would like also a pint of your finest ale now."
Krom gives then to the Innkeeper 2 gp and 3 sp.
Speaking then to the group "As I was saying before, I think that we should pay a visit as soon as possilbe to that acolyte of Chauntea, do you all agree?"
"Adabra Gwynn? She is the local midwife. She lives in the Umbrage Hill windmill a few miles south of town. Normally this is a pretty peaceful area and folks like to have their space. She has an apothecary also.
I haven't seen the dragon, but it's all anyone talks about around here. As for the town master? Well he's locked himself up in his house and won't come out. So the hall is locked. You'll have to go to his house if you want to speak with him.
And the shrine? Sister Garaele takes care of it but she isn't around at the moment. Not rightly sure where she is, not my business to keep track of her. Left town 3 or 4 days ago."
Toblen collects your gold.
"I mighty appreciate the business folks. I tried my luck prospecting many years ago but it seems I'm better at running an inn than prospecting. I'll bring meals out shortly."
He shows you each your rooms and while you settle in and come back to the common room he brings the meal out.
As you finish your meal a few folks start coming into the inn. It turns out Chill is right and the newcomers bring the curious out. Word also spreads that a bard will perform that night and the room begins to fill.
"Welcome back Master Krom. How's the work in setting up your forge? These are some mighty folks you've fallen in with. You folks take care o that dragon and you'll find plenty of people happy you start up a new forge. We be needing a decent blacksmith round these parts."
