Zeke growls a bit 'Now is not the time for hesitation or reflection - first, we rescue Gundrun, then you can decide if this is for you. There are more of these evil creatures lurking about, and whatever you feel, they won't hesitate to capture, kill and torture you. Now quiet, we don't want to give away our position.'
With that, Zeke stalks ahead into the gloom peering into the darkness looking for the dangers waiting for them.
Sildar replies "not sure, that one goblin had it." "They called him Yeemik. He seemed to be in charge, at least amongst the goblins, but then they also answer to this Klarg. I never got a look at him. I don't think Yeemik and some others like him very much."
As the group quiets down and moves forward, they approach the new light source ahead. Another larger cavern is lit with a few torches. Half of it is comprised of two large pools from which the stream below the bridge flows, a narrow waterfall high in the eastern wall feeding the other end of the pools. The echo of the waterfall drowns out all but the loudest sounds here. Low walls have been built from piles of stone to hold back the water thus forming the pools, and ropes can be seen coming out of the water from below the walls. The other ends are loosely wrapped around nearby stalagmites.
Tarja (and anyone else with darkvision and a perception check of 10+ to see G3 & G4, 15+ to see all goblins) sees four goblins lounging by the pools. Three are lying prone on the edge of the pools dunking their feet in the water, while one (G2) leans against a stalagmite and appears to be trimming his fingernails with a knife.
Stairs to the left as the group enters appear to lead back down into the main tunnel, while a set of stairs to the south leads to a thus far unexplored area.
"Huh," Elra replies, turning around so she's walking the right way. "It looks interesting. Anyways, what's going on up there?" she whispers loud enough for Zeke and Tarja to hear.
'I see two goblins up ahead between us and a set of stairs headed up. We'll need to take them out - I'll take the furthest one down, who can take out the one nearest?'
Zeke pulls out his hatchet and readies a strike.
Attack: 25 Damage: 7
Initiative for normal combat round: 22
Second Attack (to cover the disadvantage) Attack: 14 Damage: 8
There’s two more on the left. Let’s get em before they see us, cause they sure as heck can’t hear us, I can barely hear myself over this din!
Stealth: 22
Initiative: 20 Using my inspiration for advantage.
Mechanics clarifications:
disadvantage on ranged attacks on the prone goblins? Is the pillar g2 is leaning on providing him some cover?
How far am I from a spot on the map where I can see the goblins for attacking them, like the mouth of the cave?
If I post an action right now, does that happen before initiative rolls in the order we post, or in initiative order once that’s rolled?
If I go after Zeke and Arvel, but before the goblins, and Zeke kills one, I cast entangle on g1 and g2. Otherwise, depends on who’s alive and where the gobs are when I get to act.
Fae would adjust her hood and slip a dagger into her hand, she’d take a deep breath before making an attempt to stealth in after Tarja (long enough to not to give her away if I fail).
INITIATIVE 22 Zeke 20 Tarja 20 Ethan 20 Arvel 19 Fae 12 Goblins (surprised) 9 Elra & Vincent
- Disadvantage on ranged attacks vs. prone. Half cover for G2 from where you are entering, but not if you move around the stalagmite and/or engage in melee.
- I left you all back near the bridge on the previous map to give you time to decide what to do, but since you have committed to combat I moved you all up on a new map below. We'll call those the starting positions.
- We will always be on initiative once someone posts an attack and it will include that attack. Play-by-Post does not afford a free combat round on the players side because of the format. That being said, these goblins, much like the last, will have the surprised condition to start. (What can I say, goblins are lazy, especially when in their hideout where they can't hear much and not knowing anyone could threaten them. ;) )
*Feel bad saying it because of the crit, but need another D20 from Zeke because they are prone.
*Tarja's conditions weren't quite met, such as going after Arvel, but I imagine the Entangle is still in order?
The group has little trouble sneaking into this new cavern and approaching the goblins. Ethan and Arvel join Zeke in taking aim at the goblins lounging on the far side of the cave but their blasts are a bit high, impacting the cave wall instead.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Fae would sneak around to the right of the stalagmite towards the Goblin, taking advantage of the stalagmite to hide herself from his friend to the left. She'd use her dagger.
Zeke's axe throw is on point as the weapon buries itself into the goblin's skull without any sound or movement from its victim. (G4 dead)
As Tarja casts her spell vines erupt violently from the soil and stone of the cave floor and swiftly wrap up the two goblins nearby, pinning them down. (G1 & G2)
Fae moves around the stalagmite and sticks her dagger right into the neck of the seated goblin, blood spurting out as she hits a vein. It jerks and looks up at her with surprise. The other two goblins (G1 & G3) look surprised and start to gather themselves to at least try to fight or get away.
G1 & G2 Entangle'd, so Advantage to melee attacks and no penalty to ranged unless they break free.
Fae can roll another D20 if you'd like, just to see if she would have crit with Advantage.
This cavern is indeed lit by torches, and light can be seen coming from the next one to the south.
I forgot Sildar but rolled a 7 for his Initiative so that works out just fine. Holding off on his action for Elra's first, then it's back to the top for Round 2.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Elra looks to Sildar as she creeps forward enough to see what everyone is doing. "Might be best for you to stay out of the fighting for now," She calls back as she snaps her fingers and sends more radiant flames at G2.
Vincent, claws extended swipes down at G1 to distract it.
Action: Sacred Flame Dex save of 13 or it takes 5 radiant damage
Vincent: Help Tarja, next attack on G1 has advantage
Tarja peers ahead into the darkness.
Are there more watchmen?

Ethan sees Zeke head off to attack the far goblin and takes aim at Arvel's target not having seen any other goblins, but those pointed out to him.
Ethan lets off a pulse of magic into his Fire Caster, sending a bolt of fire following in the wake of Arvel's blast.

Entangle still happening, but if G3 and G4 are both still alive (and near the exit!), I'm targeting them instead of G1 and G2.
There's only four of them - better not let them run out and warn Klarg.
After the entangle, Tarja approaches to the spot between G1 and G2.
