"I can help you all if it may be too much for you." Georges said to the chef, a plate in his hand already. "You seem like you could use the assistance." Before he got a response, he ate a piece of pork so quickly it seemed as though he inhaled it.
Navi would be on a second helping by now, and she'd wonder over to Georges and the cook with full cheeks. She'd lift her plate in greeting and in thanks to the cook as she chews her food and swallows. "Much appreciated." She'd wipe her mouth with her sleeve. "What work?" She'd ask before taking her next bite and follow up with another after savouring her bite. "Ay, Chef. Do ye cook up a good bug too?"
The cook looks down at the little halfling, "Don't think you could lift the pots, but thank you."
"Well, there is lumber, charcoal, needles and pine tar to be loaded onto the ships. That's about all that is being produced at the moment, but each of those ships will be worth three times the value of what was brought out. Bug? No, no, I don't cook with bugs."
"If you don't mind me asking, if the ships are so expensive and what is being brought out of this town is not covering the expenses, what is the governor actually looking for? Why is he spending so much money on this place if he is not making money? Do you have nay idea or have heard any rumors of such?" Ulrich will ask the cook while continuing to stuff the amazing stew into his mouth.
Finishing her helping, Navi would chuckle realizing how terribly she worded her question. "If we come across another giant mantis out there and brought it back in full, would ye cook it? Oh!" She'd put her finger up remembering something, "An lizard bat? Would ye cook that?" She'd look around to the others and shrug. "Worth knowin' whether it's worth hauling back or not." Navi would crank one arm to stretch it, then the other. She'd look to the chef "Need the muscle now? I'm fueled an' good to go. Has teh be snappy," She'd look to her comrades again. "'cause we still gotta find Altaira an collect our supplies yeah? You lads can go without me and I can catch up after if ye'd like."
"Those are strange things to be cooking, and I am not sure people could eat such things. While variety might be nice, I don't see any need to bring back such strange things."
"Navi, as much as I value the principles of loyalty and camaraderie, I feel like if I have to see, smell or touch one more monster in those woods today I'm going to pass out." He visibly shuddered at the thought of having to go back into the woods to collect those little creatures. "But, I'd be more than willing to help you all unload the items on the ships as well if you all need me to-- as long as I don't get bug goo on my mandolin again, that is." Georges said to the chef, smiling.
"But, speaking of bugs..." Georges continued, turning towards the others and setting his empty plate down on a table. "How do we know that the bug is the apex predator we were looking for, anyway? It was big, sure, but we defeated it relatively quickly."
Navi lets out a whole hearted chuckle and claps George’s on the shoulder, “Ay, there be no way I’m rushing back out there tonight. There’s a bath and a bed with mah name on it tonight. Just figured I’d ask the chef what he will cook for when we set out again tomorrow, yeah?” She’d shrug, “Figured we can make quick werk of unloading this haul fer the Chef in thanks fer a good meal and then carry on with our business.”
She’d take a moment to think on George’s question, “I can’t say I’m convinced it’s THE apex predator we were looking for. But it is A predator out there.” She’d shrug again, “Honestly, I’m hoping fer a large beast I can sink mah axe into. None of these flying creatures.” She’d huff, swatting away a fly.
"Excuse me folks." As Ulrich steps outside when you hear a rather loud shout, "Altaira!! We are back briefly and are in the commissary tent getting some foods, come see us!" Then coming back in and picking his stew back up, "Sorry for the rudeness there, I am kind of done with people today and trying to find another did not interest me. If she heard it great, if she didn't we can look for her in the morning." With a grateful nod to the cook, "With my belly full of this great stew, I am getting tired. And come to think of it, what is your name, I am not sure if I caught it before and my addled brain just does not remember or we forgot to ask. Also roger that on the not bringing back the more exotic beats we find out there, I totally understand and am thankful we don;t have to haul back the weight."
Corum finishes up a bowl of stew and says Well Bem you make good food, there ain't no denying that. But I guess since we have only just begun the exploration I'll head on up to bed to get ready for tomorrow.
"Thank again Bem for a wonderful meal, I can't wait for breakfast. And if you see Altaira let her know we are looking for her and will hopefully see her in the morning." As Ulrich gets up and heads off to sleep as well.
Navi would agree with a hearty wave and a nod of her head. She too would head off to her room for the night. She’d spend some time polishing her gear and sharpening her axes before heading to sleep.
Your evening passes without incident as the inhabitants work late into the evening loading goods to be exported back to Faerun.
The next morning you are joined by an disheveled and exhausted Altaira. It is plain to see from her appearance, that she has been working through the night at her tasks in the warehouse.
"Back so soon, and I hear you have found a few interesting things along the way," she says in a voice heavy with sleep.
"Good morning Altaira, seems this town is keeping you busy especially as we have witnessed a few "townsfolk" in charge you have to put up with. Here grab a seat and we will fill you in on everything that has transpired so far." Ulrich will tell her about what we have encountered, the flying bug, the cave with the "bat" guano in it, shop her the map Navi is making and the dealing we have had with the the idiots in charge.
Bren makes his way into the room next, having returned from his quick break (OOC: Sorry about that, lads). He grabs a meager breakfast and sits, listening in on the events of the previous evening.
"Well, certainly, this Mantis could be the culprit in the attacks. It fits. The common mantis is usually a surprise hunter, and it certainly looks big enough to kill a full grown human. And if these flying lizards are common, it's possible they could have done it. Then scavengers could have taken the rest. It's plausible, and I thank you for returning with this information.
But I am much more interested in this tower and skull. It's certainly been fossilized, and you say it was mostly buried, but there is the question of how long. Are these the inhabitants which built the city? Someone who came after or before? What about the tower? So, many questions," she finishes with a hint of frustration. "The Company really only cares about profits, so my requests for an archeologist have gone unanswered, and there is so much we don't understand about this island."
"You certainly put a bug in Via's ear. He and Buford, I mean Captain Justice, had an argument and he ended up confined to quarters. Again. Don't worry yourselves, he ends up there every couple of weeks. He has some demons in his past and tends to drink too much on occasion. Cook doesn't approve. Oh, they got into it once, and as drunk as Via was he still managed to take down Cook."
Navi would have stomped her way down the stairs just in time to catch Altaira’s chat with the boys. She’d be listening to the woman speak as she gathers her meal for breakfast. Altaira was a nice breath of fresh air compared to all the gruff men bucking about. Navi did feel for Altaira’s exhaustion, “Bah. I offered to help unload last night.” She’d shoot a glare to the cook who hadn’t acknowledged her offer to assist and failed to provide her with directions to help. “I’m sorry the burden fell on you. Seems like most of that falls on you eh?” Navi would have a scowl on her face, disappointed in the way things are working out for Altaira. Though, she couldn’t help but smirk when Altaira mentions that we succeeded in putting a bug in Via’s ear.
”Altaira, I hate to ask, but did you happen to round up the items we requested from Vizzini for our departure today?”

"Bem Somov," the cook answers, "from Tethyr."
The shout, however, does not bring any response from Altaira.
