OCC: I will also be in an all day meeting today, tonight is anniversary and tomorrow taking my son to the waterpark, so posts may be sparse.
Tarshak 1st (Day 1)
Late Afternoon
Outside
"Well, my husband is a farmer. Well, more of a lumberjack nowadays as there isn't any open ground, and he said everything near the city is oddly quiet. Just small animals and birds. Can you believe they expect us to clear land with these trees here? Look at the size of them, and in the city too. Barl, that's a friend of my husband's and his family are all lumberjacks and woodsmen for generations, says these big ones are as old as an old Dwarf! Can you imagine?" A this point the baby wakes and starts to fuss. "If you'll excuse me, its his dinner time.
(OOC Happy Anniversary! hope you two have a great night)
Corum looks at his comrades and nods at their answers. He looks at the cleric and asks, Who do you worship? Don't want to accidentally offend your deity while we are adventuring. Have you had to learn a lot on the streets? I come from a pretty small halfling village and am not to familiar with bigger towns. Part of the reason I jumped at the chance to come here. Get to explore a big city without all the people to fill it up.
"I serve Lathander, the god of sunrises, renewal, and light," Bren replies."My time on the streets... Well, it taught me a lot, but the thing that will likely apply here is that there's always someone, or something, bigger than you. You can try to brute force your way through life, and it might work for nobles and the like, but when you're at the bottom of the food chain, you'll never be able to muscle your way up. It's better to be careful, cunning, and sneaky. We'll need to be cautious as we build this settlement, I should think. With an island this big, there's bound to be something else here, whether it's an older civilization or a savage creature." While talking of this peace of street wisdom, Bren's demeanor slips from confident cleric to one more accustomed to living in the shadows. Whatever past he carries with him, it is clear that he isn't entirely comfortable with it yet.
Ulrich clears his throat, "Excuse my silence so far, I have been lost in my thoughts. As to where I hail from, I don't really have a home, I have been traveling here and there around the land and have not had a home for a long time. My talents lend toward the arcane but I do not have a use for books other than research. As I love to travel the land in search of treasures, a brand new land definitely grabbed my attention and the possibility of discovering new things is very interesting and tempting."
With a raise of my tankard, "Here is to a grand time exploring this new land."
Corum nods and is interested in Ulrich's story a bit and as the gnome talks he frowns a little bit, You are a bit of a downer aren't you? Turning back to Ulrich, That is so cool! Are you pretty different than wizards? We always had a wizard come around every couple years and show off some kind of fire display. He would always eat and drink for free in the local tavern and would seem to leave a little richer than he arrived. Can you do those wizardy things? I haven't gotten to see them in so many years. Corum started getting really excited and interested, his child like qualities making him almost hop in his chair. Being so far from big cities and whatnot he has little to no clue about the different branches of magic.
"Yeah. I am. I don't say nothin' besides what's gotta be said. D'you got a problem with that? If yer ekspectin' me ta go 'round with a fake smile plastered on my face, ya've got another thing comin'"

"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
Ulrich focusing on Corum, "No I am nothing like a wizard, they are a bit to ordered for my taste." Turning to Alfin, "I mean no disrespect, I have nothing wrong with Wizards, I just know myself and there is no way I would be able to sit for hours and study from a book. I attain my powers from within with some help."
With that being said Ulrich will stand up, "Well I think I will retire for the night and meet back here in the morning? It seems the boat travel took a bit more out of me than I had previously thought."
Ulrich will head off to a room, hopefully in a corner on the 2nd? floor with a window to the outside.
Corum gives the gnome an unsure look, Uh no... wouldn't you doing anything you aren't comfortable with... taking a cue from Ulrich the halfling will get up and say That sounds like a great idea, a good nights rest will be most welcome come tomorrow when we get to do some exploring. With that he heads off in the direction of the rooms not caring where they are located.
"Of course! Thank you for your time, miss." Georges responded with a smile to the woman and waved his goodbyes, walking to the building where his living quarters were located. While he walked, he began to think of possible reasons why an essentially unpopulated island would be so devoid of large animals. Unless someone was hunting them, it was hard to believe that such a large island would be uninhabited by larger fauna. He saw Corum and waved.
Navi grabbed her stew bowl to bring it to her mouth, tilting it up to gulp the rest of it back before putting it back on the table. She'd start rubbing her stomach before letting out an echoed belch. "Bed time? Sounds great!" She'd get up quickly, pushing her chair out of the way loudly. Navi would nod a goodnight to the remaining men in the room before making her way to her room. She'd whistle a tune to herself as she went.
Morning finds the table in the room where you met with Altaira (downstairs from where you slept quietly on comfortable, though simple pallets) filled with rations for 10 days (a mixture of dried fish, winter vegetables, ship's rations, and some fresh baked travel bread -- sorry, no lembas), and a cartographer's tool kit. Three is also a large bell with a note:
Ring the bell and I will come over when I can.
On the banquet table is hot tea, small beer (from the ship's rations), small boiled birds eggs and a large pie made of salted pork and vegetables.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Having always worked on a farmstead and with going to bed early the previous night, Corum woke and made his way downstairs still smelling the aroma of the stew from the previous night. He goes through the rations and packs his share away, briefly contemplating swapping out the ship's rations but thought better of it, Making Your Own Rules is one thing easily being cause is another. He rings the bell, grabs the beer and starts drinking while enjoying a boiled egg. And without thinking about it he slips one of the spoons into his pocket (OOC do I need to make a sleight of hand roll if no one is around?)
Bren, as always, is up before dawn to complete his prayers and rituals. Coming back inside, he notices Corum tucking away his rations and moves to do the same. "So, did we ever even decide who's taking those?" he asks, pointing to the Cartographer's Tools. "I wouldn't have the faintest clue with this kind of thing, unfortunately."
You could hear Navi clunking down the stairs with a very familiar loud yawn shortly after Bren. She’d finish her exaggerated arm stretches on the stairs, moving to some leg lunges on her way to the table. She’d stretch out her back before plopping down at the table with the others.
“Aye! Breakfast!” Navi would help herself to her fair share of rations, packing them away as she pops a whole hard boiled egg into her mouth. “I did foffer fif no ern else wants fit.” She’d mutter with a full mouth, grabbing a helping of pie and tea to wash it down.
Corum shrugs and says I'm not sure, I stopped paying attention when I turned down the offer since my units of measurements are quite a bit smaller than what would be need. Did you have a good nights rest?
Wake up, you are closer time to search for what I seek...I said WAKE UP!
Ulrich grabs his head shaking it a bit to clear the cobwebs and the noise. He will then get out of bed collect his things and walk downstairs. "Morning all, everyone sleep well. Looks like your hosts have provided us well," pointing to the items on the table. "Shall we finish breakfast pack our things, ring for Altaira and get this crew on the road?"
Alfin practically falls downstairs, looking an absolute mess. You aren't sure he's even awake yet, from the look of him, until he opens his mouth and lets out a cry of "FOOD." He then cones down upon it like he hasn't eaten in weeks, devouring whatever is set before him.

OCC: I have added a folder to the onedrive labeled "Maps".
As you eat breakfast, Altaira opens the main door and makes her way to the table. "Good, good, you are here. I hope the ground not swaying didn't keep anyone awake," she jests with a little chuckle. She lays three maps (island, explored area, and city) on the table for you. "I brought these for you. As you can see, there were three roads leading out of the city. They become pretty much lost after a mile or so in the forest. Trees have buckled the stones, and years of debris have covered much of it. Since you were interested, the last attack took place, west of the western north road. You're welcome to look, if you can find it, you'll follow the road for a bit over 3 miles. There will be a tree with some hatchet marks, then go west from there for half a mile. Sorry, I can't give better directions."
Corum sits up from his beer and egg and nods excitedly, and hurriedly packs away all his things. He looks at the assembled, Let's get going shall we? And bounds out of the door in the direction she indicated.
