OOC: so they faced away from eachother basically? Looked out, instead of in? With paths behind them heading into the middle? just making sure I understand going forward.
Corum looks at the statue with its pretty shiny eyes, but feels tired after killing the snake and hiking all day. I can get behind that idea. See what is in the middle of this area and maybe figure out why these statues are here. But we should check out the south statues too in case its different or something.
"Sounds like a plan to me boys." Navi was genuinely surprised to see Corum isn't heading for the gems this time. Though, she wouldn't doubt he'd come back for them.
As you head into the center, it is hard not to notice that the trees here are twisted and gnarled, with bulbous growths protruding from their blackened bark. There is an ominous feel to the very air and the airs on the nape of your neck stand at the oppression.
In the center, facing north, is a huge statue towering 30 ft. above you. From the outline (at 60 ft), you can tell it is of a woman from the ample bosom. Her hair seems seems to be standing in wavy spikes, and her torso is contorted and disappears into a mound.
The 25 ft. statue stands on a plinth 5 ft height by 40 ft long (from north to south).
As you get closer (30 ft) the details of her torso come better into focus. Below the waist the statue of the woman has the body of a snake, and the mound is her coils stacked on upon the other. Her left hand is up, and it holds a ball of the same black stone as the statue is made from.
Closer still (10 ft), you can see the strands of her hair are actually snakes themselves and her face is deformed.
The plinth upon which she stands is also carved with the images of snakes, and types of reptiles which you do not recognize in stylized and impossible poses.
Moving slightly to the north, you determine her face is not deformed, but rather bears a short, wide reptilian snout. Two black eyes reflect the sun, and seem to follow you. The head of the statue is surmounted by a crown and in the statue's right hand is a short trident.
OCC: If you can imagine Medusa mixed with Salmissra, you are on the right track :)
(Definitely was thinking Medusa snake lady hybrid.)
Navi would honestly look up in a sense of awe and wonder. She felt as if the statue commanded her attention and it’s eyes would follow her as she’d move around it. “Do any of ye know anything about history or religion that could be related to this, perhaps, Goddess?” She’d call back to the others, still staring up at the statue.
Navi would stifle the current urge to touch the statue. While she waited for someone to respond to her, she’d start talking out loud, softly so the guys don’t hear her. “I’m sorry our greedy rogue keeps taking the eyes of your... protectors? Supporters?” She’d pause for a moment, trying to take in everything they’ve experienced up to now as a whole, “What happened to your old world?” Navi would ask genuinely. She didn’t expect an answer, but honestly was beginning to wonder more about how all of this came to be. “I’m built for brawn... I feel like I need more brain for this one...” she’d sigh and for the first time this whole adventure she’d start doubting her contribution to this job.

Walking up to stand beside Navi, "She is truly a wonder but I would not want to meet the live version of this. I think I have had enough of snake so far on this trip, though I wonder who she might have been. Is she some form of god for these people or is it a statue of a member of her race? Either way I hope they are long gone."

Georges would be looking around in order to see if there was an alter or anything of the like around the area. "I've never been much of a snake person." He muttered aloud, walking around.
The Yaun-ti are a race of hybrid human and serpent people. Legend has it that they are one of the original races of Toril, and can still be found in Faerun. Today the race varies from almost human with only a few facial and skin characteristics of a serpent, to mostly serpent with only a human-like face. The more serpent, the higher the Yaun-ti cast.
The Serruhk, according the even more ancient legends, were one of the original races of Toril, and long before the Dragons they established their own empires across the world. At one time, they were so powerful that they created the Yaun-ti, Lizardfolk, Troglodyte and other reptilian species as servant races. Eventually the Serruhk were destroyed or driven from Toril by the Fae, Dragons and other races.
Area
The area is unnaturally quiet, with no signs of movement. The soft earth has recorded the movement of the (or possibly other) large snakes in the area.

Relaying the information to the others Ulrich will continue to keep a focus on watching the forest for anything out of the ordinary. "Yea so, this trip might get really adventurous really soon, not sure if I am ready to battle snake people but if that is the way of things, so be it. come to think of it that skull we found did it have any snake like qualities to it or did it look entirely human?"

It didn't match up to Human, Elf, Dwarf, or Halfling, but what the "otherness" of it was, there wasn't anything you could perceive that make it reptilian.
