(Every time I think of rations I think of beef jerky, so I recoiled when I thought of eating beef jerky and blueberries together, haha! :D)
After breakfast, Georges stretches momentarily before rolling up his sleeping bag and putting it in his rucksack and turning to the others. "Ready to set out, everyone?"

Well, it isn't Lembas. But as D&D is set more in the High to Late Middle Ages, it is more likely to consist of unleavened bread, cheese, and some salted meat/fish, long lasting fruits such as apples and maybe a bit of butter or oil. In AD&D, the PHB actually had standard & iron rations. Iron would have been more of the hard-tack, dried fruits and jerky.
As you make your way westward, the road becomes more visible and the "mile markers" make your travel easier, allowing to you double your cautious pace. The road continues in a westward direction, detouring around hills. Small streamlets and ponds of stagnant water can occasionally be found cutting across the road, causing you to make the occasional detour. Though the forest is no different here, than east of the statues, there is a subtle change to the sounds and frequency of the sounds as if the coastline were more deserted. Signs of humanoid habitation, however, remain elusive.
That is, until just after noon, when somewhere ahead and to the north, you hear grunts, cries of pain, and the sound of wood striking wood.
"Yes, by all means scout out ahead but we will not be too far behind you, spreading too far out might not be a good idea, especially if another snake is involved." Ulrich will comment.
Leaving the road you silently climb the small hill, covering the final few yards at a slow crouch moving from fern to trunk and back. All the time the noise gets louder until it is the unmistakable sound of combat. Peaking over the hill, you are astounded by the sight before you.
Two groups of combatants are in a mixed melee below you.
The larger (in number: 20) are creatures from a nightmare, certainly it is reptilian with brown scales, a broad muscular torso, and a smaller almost viper shaped head, a ridge of spikes along its head and back and a long tail. They fight upright like humanoids, their wide spread feet tipped with 4 claws and their hands also tipped with 4 claws, with the 2nd on each hand like a curved dagger. They stand between 4.5 and 5 feet tall.
The smaller (in number: 10) are also reptilian, standing over 6 feet tall. Their look is more like a humanoid iguana, with deep green scales and brown and yellow head crests. Their bodies are also muscular, but better proportioned. They, however, are armed with crude wooden shields, the edges of which are tipped with claws, and heavy wooden clubs. Several of their opposites on the ground have been struck by wooden javelins.
The groups seem to be fighting over the carcass of another fantastic creature. About the size of a large cow, the creature is also reptilian, with heavily muscled front and a small head adorned by two long straight horns. Given the long gashes on the creatures flanks, it would seem to have been killed by the first group.
Can corum tell if any of them are talking? Seeing if by chance they speak a form of common. If not I will watch for a bit and try to learn what i can things like fighting styles, if they have magic capabilities, and tactics each side likes to use, and head back to the group

You can't tell from the grunts and yells, if they are speaking, but no one is speaking common or halfling.
Joining Corum you see two groups of combatants are in a mixed melee below you.

As you watch, the two sides seem to be very evenly matched, the natural armor and dexterity of the combatants preventing more than light wounds among them. The smaller (in number) group, seeming to have expended the advantage offered by their javelins.
