The four of you came together in the town of Oakhurst, and while there heard of the story of how a tribe of goblins sells a single magical fruit every midsummer. People have claimed that when they try to grow their own magical fruit plant from the seeds, the saplings always get stolen when they reach around 2-feet in height. Intrigued by this mystery your four decided to form a party to solve how these goblins possess such a fruit and how they steal every sprouting sapling.
The four of you leave early morning for the place the locals call the Sunless Citadel. Luck may be on your side for it is just a few weeks before midsummer, the hills are lush with growth but the summer heat sometimes feels oppressive. You follow the Old Road that has been overgrown with plant life from its disuse, it winds through rocky downs and near stands of old-growth oak trees. You walk about 7 miles along the Old Road as it passes to the east of a narrow ravine. At the road's closest approach to the cleft, several broken pillars jut from the earth where the ravine widens. Two of the pillars stand straight, but most lean atop sloped earth. Other are broken, and several have apparently fallen into the dark depths. A few similar pillars are visible on the opposite side of the ravine.

Arashi slowly and cautiously walks up to pillars and begins to inspect them for any sort of markings/drawings, or any other clues left by the goblins that could possibly give some information about the way to the Sunless Citadel, or what we may be getting ourselves into.
Shauku, you don't see any potential danger in the area around. You do notice that the pillars are worn and broken with crude Dwarvish letters graffitied on some of them. You also take note of many small campfires in the area that someone has taken some effort to hide. Over the edge of the ravine you can see old and weathered handholds and footholds that lead to a ledge that is about 50 feet down. You do spot slight movement among the rubble that occupies the ledge and beyond the ledge you can make out the top of some stairs that descend farther down.
Arashi, you walk over to one of the more upright pillars and find this beautiful monarch butterfly that is currently hanging out on of the local flowers that has found a small crack in the pillar to grow out of. The beauty of the butterfly and the way the flower has grown unfortunately distracts you for a spell from the task you set off to do.
Hallow, nothing really noticeable pops out as a way to cross the ravine. You do, however, spot a dark cloud of small birds in the distance that continuously moves and shifts in almost random patterns but seems to stay in the general area.
Aaidi, you keep an eye on the Old Road but don't really see anything that might pose a danger to the group. On the opposite side of the road a small fox creeps out from some bushes and just watches curiously for a brief moment before darting back into the bushes and scampering out of sight.

Seeing the fox reassures Aaidi, at least, that the roads behind them are safe for now. He watches the fox for the brief moment it was visible, but does not bother tracking the creature any further as it vanishes into the bushes. Instead, he turns to his companions.
"Nice place, this." he remarks. "Very scenic. Arashi, Shauku, Hallow, found anything? Should we try to find some way around or across the ravine?"
He walks up near the edge of the ravine, peering down to see how deep it was, but careful not to stray too close.

"There's a ledge about 50 ft down, I think I see the top of some stairs that descend farther down. I also thought I saw some movement in the rubble on the ledge, trying to tell if it's just a critter or worse. "
"Sorry, I was distracted by the beauty in the nature surrounding the area." Arashi responds. He looks over at Aaidi staring down at the water and asks "How deeps the water, Aaidi?"
Shauku: It is hard to make out what the movement is because it keeps moving in and out of various parts of the rubble, but concentrating enough you manage to come to the conclusion that there are at least three giant rats down there.
Aaidi: You look over the edge and can see a ledge about 50 feet below with some piles of rubble, but can't really see a way down.

“Birds.”He repeats Hallow's observation, rather thoughtfully. “Well, we’ll have to find a way to get over there first.”
“I can’t tell how deep it is.” He replies to Arashi. “Like Shauku said, there’s a bit of a ledge maybe fifty feet down, so maybe we could climb down there. I can’t see how to get down safely, though. Rope, maybe.”
He straightens and looks around for something that could plausibly hold their weight should they climb down. His eyes fall onto the pillars, and he walks over to the closes still standing column, inspecting it to determine if it was structurally sound. His head jerks up when Shauku mentions the rats, startled.
“There’s rats?” He asks, looking to Shauku for confirmation. “Maybe climbing down there isn’t such a good idea, then.”
Aaidi: Most of the pillars seem to be pretty secure to you, the ones closest to the ravine's edge do lean one way or another.
Shauku: The climb down is a little difficult but manageable with the weathered handholds and footholds that appear to have been carved out. It is hard to make anything out past the edge of the ledge and the rats have vanished from sight; but nothing else catches your attention.
(Movement is fairly lax and free outside of combat, or any other initiative based event.)

Shauku's first impulse is to shout up what he's sees, but uses his better judgement and remains quiet. He carefully climbs back up the rest of the group.
I couldn't make out much past the edge of the ledge. I didn't see the rats anymore, but they probably didn't go very far. There are weathered handholds and footholds to climb down. If we do so, I suggest extreme caution. Using rope is probably the safest bet, yet, leaving a tied rope behind could leave us subject to be followed. Would it even matter?
"Whoever was coming down here before would be able to do so without the rope, so I don't think it'd be a big deal. I happen to have 50 ft of rope in my pack."
Arashi ties one end of the rope to one of the sturdier pillars closer to the ravine and throws it down towards the ledge.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Arashi inches towards the edge where he tossed the rope, and looks down giving a nervous gulp.
"See you at the bottom" He says without much confidence, and proceeds to start climbing down, planting his feet in footholds as he sees them available.
