*** THE APPLICATIONS TO THIS THREAD ARE CLOSED FOR NOW *** THANKS ! *** MAY RE-OPEN IN A FEW DAYS***
As an eventual start for a new campaign set in Faerun (with a few home-brew changes), I'm gonna run a One-Shot on Discord over one, or if needed two sessions, respectively:
1. Session #1 on Sunday, Aug 4th: starting 2pm EST (i.e. 8pm European Time) / Duration: 2-4 hours
2. Session #2 on Tuesday, Aug 6th: starting 4 pm EST (10pm European Time) / Duration 2-4 hours
Both sessions will be played In Real Time using Play-by-Post / Theater of The Mind playing style (so written posts exclusively, no audio).
RULES / PLAYING STYLE: strong RP / combat-heavy / some exploration and eventual survival in the wilderness may be involved. All posts will be done in a group server on Discord exclusively dedicated to 5e. I'll send an invite to the selected players by tomorrow 4pm.
SYNOPSIS:Aelgred Ethrondyr's small caravan had made its slow, lumbering way down the main road snaking along the edge of the vast and forbidding expanse of the Archwoods for a number of days now, and the merchant had felt his initial reserves about the trip alleviating slowly with every mile that brought them closer to the safety of Highmoon. They were now only mere days away from the city and the prospect of seeing his old friend Hanseld over a pint at the Oak and Spear filled the chubby ordulinian businessman with anticipated glee. It had been too long since the last time the two men had met, but what with reports of clashes with marauders becoming more and more frequent on the sembian border and an array of other disturbing rumors from Myth Drannor and Cormyr, he had been loathe to put his precious cargo at risk. He felt quite pleased with his investment now, nevertheless: even though the small ramshackle group he had hired to reinforce his guards had cost him a little more than he'd been used to spend on security, he felt their presence had probably been a determining factor in keeping the greed of spying brigands in check. He was suddenly interrupted in his thoughts by a shout coming from the head of his small train of chariots: "Master Aelgred ! Master Aelgred !!!" the voice of his caravan master's young assistant rang with a tremor in its tone that chilled the merchant's blood. While the boy obviously wasn't a grizzled veteran, he hadn't struck Aelgred as a particularly impressionable or cowardly sort, yet as he now ran towards him Aelgred could see the shaken look on the young man's freckled face. "Master, hurry come see ! It's horrible, Master... they've all been ripped apart ! Oh Chauntea, Protect Us All, so much blood... everywhere, blood !". The old merchant sighed: this trip had been too uneventful to be true, he reflected darkly. He considered the fact he should have maybe waited a few more weeks before setting for Highmoon, after all...
CHARACTER CREATION + BACKGROUNDS : The action is set in the Dalelands on the road from Ordulin to Highmoon (Faerun, late fall of 1483 DR). The group is supposed to be mostly friends that have previously traveled together, or who have met while traveling with the caravan. They could be guards, simple passengers, pilgrims, even caravan workers or part of the merchant's entourage and/or family (use your imagination). Characters will start at 1st level, choose 27-point buy OR roll 4d6 and keep highest, keeping mostly to PHB rules.
NOTE: evil alignments and homebrew races *may* be allowed after talking to DM (me).
PLAYER APPLICATION: Apply with your character idea (Your type of experience with and motivation to play D&D, preferred style of playing if any, your Character Name, Class, Race, Gender, basic personality and/or background, brief physical description, etc) either here or by Private Message. If you decide on rolling its abilities with the 4d6 method, make sure you roll them in the thread here with the Dice Roller.
DEADLINE: I'll contact the selected players by PM at the latest by tomorrow Saturday at 4pm EST. Timeframe and/or days for the game session(s) are open to discussion, I'll try to fit everyone's availabilities within reason, seeing that I'm posting from EST+6 here (Western Europe) and will be offline from august 9th till 17th.
EVENTUAL FOLLOW-UP: if this one-shot is a success, there could be a follow-up into a longer campaign over the next few months IRL.
