”I’d like you to meet someone.” In a whorl of shadows, a small black figure appears. About two feet tall, with beady black eyes, claws and furled black wings, Harrow sits perched like a tiny demon lord.
”This is Harrow, and he’s about to be your best friend. You see, he has a lot to offer to someone like you. He sees in darkness like it’s daylight. He flies and shifts his shape. He turns invisible. And he has a knack for seeing what motivates a creature. Most importantly, he can communicate with me from anywhere...” Brill looks at Erred to fill in the blank.
"Anywhere... as in, anywhere I could get to?" Erred grins while his hands fidget uncomfortably. "As in, the inn I spent the evening in? And the tree where I buried... never mind." Erred stares at Harrow and turns his head sideways, seeing if Harrow will do the same. "Is this my new warden, then? Will he be reporting in hourly, constantly, or biweekly? Does he do anything other than watch?"
“You’re thinking about him like a chain. Think of him as a tool and ally.”
Brill reaches down to Harrow with his stump of an arm, and as he touches the imp, it changes and molds itself to Brill’s arm. It shifts and becomes a gauntlet. The fingers move and Brill waves them in front of Erred.
“This mission has to succeed. If it doesn’t, the G’s win. I’m not about to tie up a talented ally. I’m helping him up. I’m lending you my own right hand. I don’t trust you Erred, but I’m not about to hamper you.”
Erred stares at the morphed creature. Then, with a lighthearted chuckle, he replies. "Fair enough. Are you sure you won't need him? He clearly helps you avoid great 'arm."
As we travel, Erred will periodically try and teach Harrow to do tricks, retrieve objects once thrown, and generally make mischief. He spends several hours on one of the days having a one-sided conversation with Harrow about different tactics employed when picking pockets, weighing and supporting multiple positions while Harrow looks on. In short, it seems he hasn't really ever had a pet before.
De'ran walks behind the others with a much more anxious demeanor. He's not used to being out on the roads for so long, and you can catch him giving sort of longing looks whenever they past through a forest or wooded area. He remembers when the world wasn't ravaged by war. He watches the others, not because he doesnt trust them but because he's spent so much of his life pushing people away that it's easier to maintain a distance. The time in between missions is always so awkward for him. So he stays quiet and vigilant. Occasionally smiling at the others when they look back to see if he's still there following.

Hoard of the Dragon Queen - Jalt Rhogar - Dragonborn Cleric (9)
The journey continues without any incidents for the bigger part. You keep yourselfs for the woods, trying to avoid any dangers and risks imposed through guards on theyr patrol.
I would like everyone to make a perception check for the rests. I will then take the average to sort things out. Also it will be for all the rests and not a specific one.
The closer you get to your destination, the more patrols you encounter during the day. they still mind theyr business and let you pass without any incdents.
One night however on Gryak's watch, a good distance, maybe 300 to 400 feet away, there is a torchlight visible between the trees. And it is coming in your direction. Not fast though, so you know that you have not been discovered yet.
OOC: Your average on perception was just high enough to discover the light so early. Good job.
What else can I make out about the approaching group? How many are there? Are they making noise or not? Are they on foot or horseback (or riding something else)?
Gryak is going to extinguish any fire or other light still at the campsite in order to try to stay hidden. And continue to observe the light while staying ready to wake his companions in case they continue to come closer or seem aggressive or dangerous in some way.
With the average perception you know that there are at least 3 people on foot but no further details. Depends on Deran if he is in trance or not. I'd allow him to also be awake.
They are coming closer so you manage to awake your companions without making much noise.
Brill will pull Erred aside.
”We should talk...”
he’ll walk away from prying eyes.

Brill stands up tall, looking down at Erred for a moment then:
“An arm clearly isn’t enough, you need a couple of feet to get on my level.”
and walks away with a smile.

Is De'ran D'ran still in his sleep trance?

Brill moves to hide up in a tree, and leaves Harrow below on the road. Harrow will become invisible and try to get close enough to see and hear them.

If I wake everyone it doesn't really matter if De'ran is in a trance seeing as I would wake him up anyway.
Gryak will try to remain hidden as he watches them approach.
Stealth: 2
If we have been resting past the 4 hours, De'ran would have been up. He will take Gryak's warning and try to blend in with the terrain...
