Vee covers her mouth with her hand as her companion sprints from the table, ejecting the contents of his stomach. As she lowers her hand, her facial expression is a mixture of pity and laughter. "Don't worry! We'll win this for you!" She lifts her mug again and drains it quickly.
When one dropped to the table Ormir drummed his hands on the table for a moment and shouted, "And then there were five!" He then pours himself his next glass, chugs it quick and slams it back down onto the table top down.
Next glass: 5
well, the inspiration won't help that. 2 lives down, 1 life left
"Of course, you must be parched. Come." The wood-elf takes the lead, walking back across the field. Others have started on the obstacle course, eager to prove themselves to anyone who is watching. Fighters are still going at it in the ring; as you walk past, you see an absolute behemoth of a man lay an elf out with his club, roaring to the cheers of the crowd. You would spot your friends on the outskirts of the crowd around the ring, gathered around a circular table with Ontharr and some of his men. As you approach you see Hansi run off back towards the tavern, barely making it halfway before leaning against a wall to empty his stomach. The black dragonborn, despite his confident demeanor, seems to be nearing his limit. Aside from the light swaying here or there however, the other elf in your party appears to be holding her own quite well. "Ah. I see Ontharr has roped your friends into his favorite game, this should be interesting to watch. Would you prefer water or wine?" After hearing Laucian's preference, one of the others around Peren would dash into the tavern to retrieve their drinks.
Ontharr busts out into a boisterous laugh as Hansi falters and runs off, calling out after him. "Easy there lad! Just let it happen, you'll feel better in a bit and then you can have some more!" He turns his attention back to those remaining at the table and refills all the drinks, having to reach for the second jug as the first has been emptied at this point. "NOW. Let's get on with this." Once more, the three of them take their drinks. The man to his right finishes his drink first and sets the mug down with a woozy smile on his face. He sways for a moment, and then falls backwards. The other man seems to struggle with this drink, having to stop and steady himself several times before being able to finish it. Ontharr easily takes his down, slamming the mug back on the table. "Well now, looks like it's even odds again!" He says with a laugh, waving someone over to help the poor man up.
The effects of the alcohol were now starting to fully take hold, and Vaylyn couldn't help but giggle. "You're going to regret this tomorrow Ontharr. I would wager there isn't a man here I couldn't drink under the table thrice over." Splashing a bit of the spirit on the table, she drains the next mug of alcohol.
By this point Ormir is fully with buzzed state. He can feel it throughout his body. That familiar feeling like his face had fallen asleep. He hadn't noticed it fully himself but everything was starting to take a greater sway. Using that to his advantage he accidentally spills his cup. "Sorry, sorry, the drinks must be getting to me." he says with a jovial grin. He then sets his cup up near a glass of and pours a new drink from the mug. Setting the mug down he sways a bit over exaggerately and tries to stealthily switch the cups to drink the glass of water instead.
Going to use slight of hand to try and switch out the drink this round. I'll roll twice in case you think he should have disadvantage. If not use the first.
All that have been playing Ontharr's drinking game. Yes, at this point you are drunk. For the time you are intoxicated, you will have disadvantage on all Dexterity, Intelligence, and Wisdom ability checks. Advantage on Strength or Charisma based checks. The same applies to NPCs who are drunk.
You switch the drinks with ease, even in your drunken state. Looking around, you're pretty certain no one has noticed.
"Haha! Don't worry about it my scaly friend! We've plenty to go around!" Ontharr's volume control has gone completely out the window at this point, as he basically yells across to Ormir while waving another jug of alcohol around. He refills his drink and his last remaining man's. They hold each other by the shoulder to steady themselves and slam their mugs together before draining them. For a moment it looks like they might fall, wobbling dangerously backwards. But they right themselves and laugh, still standing.
The world begins to spin before her, and for a moment Vaylyn has to hold her head in her hands to keep from falling over. Once the dizziness passes, she lifts her mug again and drinks. She wasn't that old for an elf, but never in her life had she drank this much before.
That glass of water trick really saved his skin but looking at the table, there was now a glass filled with the alcohol and his empty one. There was no chance that he was going to be able to pull that trick again. Ormir gripped the edge of the table, took a few deep breaths and then said, "And here we go again, ha ha ha."
The pair go to take their next drinks. The other man finishes his first, and sets the cup down shaking his head. He stutters something out and begins to stumble away, heading back towards the tavern building. Ontharr is halfway through his drink when he suddenly stops and sets the cup down, bracing his hands on the table. "Ohhhh no lads, I'm done." He shakes his head to try and clear his vision, which turns out to be a huge mistake. "Fair is fair, you win. I'll tell yo-" His mouth clamps shut suddenly. After swallowing and taking a moment to collect himself, he holds up a finger. "Tomorrow morning. We'll talk then, right now I ne-" This time his hand slaps over his mouth and he turns, hobbling back towards the tavern himself.
Rest of the day is yours to do whatever you want. I'll let you play it out however you want and then end the day when everyone is ready.
Vaylyn sets her mug down for the final time and takes a moment to collect herself before moving away from the table. "Good work," she says to the dragonborn, trying to focus her eyes properly to find their other companions. She spots Laucian, and waves shortly with a small smile. Her attention turns back to Ormir. "Did you see where Hansi went? I'm afraid I can't see straight right now, but he didn't look well last I saw."
Ormir starred in disbelief at the news that they won, then broke out in a boisterous laugh. "Victory to us!" He raised his glass in cheer and was about to take a sip when the smell hit his nose... He hesitated and then set it down. Turning to Vaylyn he grins again, and then turns to a slight frown. "Sorry, I didn't see where he went but my guess not far, I'll take a look." He stands up to go in search and nearly sends the chair sprawling across the ground. He catches it just in time. Then slowly stumbles away. Shouting out for Hansi. He makes his way back into tavern and shouts to Hansi a few more times. He then then finds his pack and more importantly, his lute.
A smile stretches on Hansi's face as he watches with disbelief how Ormir starts shouting for him, then almost brushes Hansi aside making his way to the tavern. He looks at Bree and starts laughing hysterically. "Hey, Vee! I think you and Ormir had too many drinks. Ha ha! Well done! Now we get to question the dwarf. Wait... is that why we've been drinking? I know a spell for that! I just hope the hangover will be worth it. Gods, I feel like I'm going to puke again."
Answering Hansi, "No competitions for me, per se, but I did have an interesting conversation with that half-elf over there," pointing out the half-elf if he is still around. "The travel of information seemed to be one sided, from me unfortunately, and I still have a queezy feeling about him, something is not right with him. He mentioned that the Cult of Dragons is acting differently and he was not sure of their motives and then he goes and pulls out a Black Dragon egg from his shirt, which surprised the hell out of me. I noticed when we first arrived that he seemed to be taking particular interest in us and then during the arena brawl he was one again studying the fighters which is when I went to talk to him. I have a feeling we will be seeing him again, but I am not sure on which side of the coin he will fall."
Finishing her drink, "I do think I am done for tonight unless anyone has any other questions or have need of me, I will go find some rooms for us and bed down for the night." Bree will wait to see if anyone has a question or have a task they want to finish, otherwise will approach the bartender and grab rooms for the group while paying the tab for the party.
Vaylyn stands next to the group, catching phrases of their conversation every now and again while she screws her eyes shut and pinches the bridge of her nose. Everything felt so sluggish right now, and she wasn't enjoying it. A few words catch her interesting in particular, and she echoes "A dragon egg?" She drops her hand as her eyes open, squinting for a moment to focus on the hafling and Hansi. "No. No, nevermind. I'll pick this up with you all tomorrow." With that, she would stumble off behind Bree, eager to find a room to recuperate in.
