After a night of good rest, thanks to his night cap, Rosri isn’t too eager to be off. The weather is cold an bitter and his body aches from the previous days excursions. Before leaving he feeds Butterscotch and dons an extra layer of clothes under his cloak. The last thing he want is to get a cold. He pack his belongings, included the Ever-fill mug he found in the chest. It will help keeping him warm in the cold weather. Then he roll out the map of the surroundings just to get a feeling of it. He studies it for a short while before repacking it.
When the others are ready he climb up on his horse and take the position as the partys scout and rides in-front of the wagon.

Roscoe rises from his slumber and climbs back up to the cabin. He stretches and smiles when he sees everyone. He was excited for. New day and eagerly climbed back into the wagon to head back out into the blizzard.
The day long trekk through the snowy valley proves rough on Rosri, who takes 2 Frost Damage.
Edeleth skillfully maneuvers the wagon along the narrow road, shielding himself from the blizzard, following Roscoe and Pebbles the dog, who seems to be leading the way.
As night falls, our heroes finally reach a small settlement, or what is left of it....the blizzard finally stops, and the entire area is deathly quiet....
Smoke still rises from the charred houses and buildings, and there are no signs of life...
In front of you lies a wooden directional sign which reads "Oakfields". An arrow is stuck in the sign...
From the vantage point the adventurers are currently approaching from, Rosri spots a large statue in the distance, about a half mile away from the village, carved into the side of a cliff, and illuminated by the very last rays of daylight....
Edeleth stops the wagon and hands the reins back to the NPC driver hireling, thanking him for the driving lesson and feeling pleased with himself. The next time a wagon is necessary, he will probably be able to dispense with hiring help. It will take work away from some driver, but then, this fellow looked he really, really, REALLY didn't want the job, and Edeleth supposed that dragging some commoner unwillingly into danger was probably more unconscionable than saving a few coins on their hire. He feels vaguely guilty that he can't remember the driver's name.
(OOC: I assume Zyman hasn't told anyone about the dwarf letter yet? Because that's gonna open a can of worms...especially if we show up at the Hanging Chicken one day wearing Gavin's dead Dad's stuff.)
He approaches Rosri, noticing the halfling's frostbitten fingers and offers him a couple of goodberries. "These have healing properties, and their magic is about to expire in an hour or so, so you may as well get some use from them," says Edeleth. "Perhaps one of us ought to scout ahead? If you are tired, I could have a look around in wolf form."

In the next few second he can here Zyman say something, but he can't see him.
"Pebbles said that the survivors were being held in a cave near a statue," Edeleth reminds him. "That could be the statue."
He stares back the way Rosri has come from. Zyman had just turned invisible and gone to scout around the village. Grunda had simply walked off in the same direction. Edeleth hesitates to go anywhere until they have returned, but if there were still survivors, minutes could mean the difference between life and death.
For the first time he wishes the party had some arrogant, pushy paladin or stony-faced ranger ordering them all around and organizing things.

"On second thought," he adds, "I'll go see if I can get the others back here first." Turning into a wolf, he races toward the ruined village, watching for the towering figure of Grunda and wondering how in the world he's going to find an invisible Zyman.

As everyone heads off to Oaksfields, Rosri is left alone. <What am I gonna do now then?> He think to himself, <I should wait for the others to come back. It wont do if Edeleth manages to get the others back here only to find me gone.> Rosri is pleased with the idea of staying behind and for once be out of danger. He hiches Butterscotch to the other horses. The couch driver gives him a sour look before continue with what he was doing. Rosri then gets his book, (yes that book) and a blanket and then he crawls up in the wagon to read only to be met by the curious eyes of Roscoe. "What yous got there?" he ask. "Ehm.. nothing.. it's nothing really." Rosri turns 50 shades of crimson as he sees Roscoe and quickly try to hide the book.
As our heroes start investigating the ruined village of Oakfields, Edeleth (in wolf form) and Zyman (invisible) go full "CSI Talaveroth" , analysing clues, and deduct the following facts:
1)There appears to have been a celebration of some sort right before the attack: a large banquet table lies shattered in the center of the village, and many paper decorations and confetti still litter the floor. Both Zyman and Edeleth would know that the beginning of the Winter solstice was a couple of days ago, and many farming communities celebrate it by having banquets in the name of Elohna, the Goddess of Fertility and Bountiful Farming.
2)There were five Gnolls dragging about10 people out of the village. Some of the people appear to have been children. One of the Gnolls seems a bit bigger than the others.
3)The footprints lead straight to the Statue that Rosri spotted earlier, lodged in the face of a nearby cliff. There is a cave entrance in the cliff....
Pebbles sniffs around the village, and heads straight to one of the wrecked cottage houses, that hasn't completely burned down. He disappears for a few moments, then reappears, holding something in his mouth...a small dog sweater made of wool, with Dwarven inscriptions...
Pebbles drops the sweater to the ground, and starts rolling around in it, as if struggling to get in it, unsuccessfuly....he barks at you, whining...
Seeing Edeleth in Wolf form following him, Zyman says, again with his disembodied voice: "Looks like the gnolls headed for that cave, and they took some live ones judging by the marks. If we act fast, we might be able to save some of them in time. I propose that I'll scout ahead, still using my invisibility, whilst you gather the rest of the group, to back me up if I should run into trouble. Are we agreed?"

Edeleth softly woofs agreement with Zyman, glad he won't have to give up his transformation yet to communicate--the thick fur coat and cold-resistant feet are very comfortable. He picks up the sweater Pebbles is pawing at in his teeth, and runs back to the wagon before resuming his normal shape.
Back at the wagon, things are strangely quiet. "Rosri?" Edeleth calls nervously as he tries to fit the sweater onto the dog. "Roscoe?"

Edeleth manages to fit the sweater onto Pebbles...the dog instantly morphs into a medium sized, two legged anthropomorphic dog creature, wearing a chain shirt,a shield on his back (emblazoned with a large Golden Retriever) and a longsword sheathed on his hip. His ears flap gloriously in the wind. He stands up, shaking from emotion, staring at his hands, then staring at Edeleth. He grabs Edeleth and hugs him, then starts speaking common, in a deep and distinguished voice.
"Haha!! You did it, my fearless companions! Thus may I finally come to proper aid, in these times of great peril! Allow me to explain...my Master Tarden Barth's wife Frithia comes from a long line of Feywild Warlocks. I had lived with them and their children for many years, when Frithia's mother passed away. She was a powerful wielder of the Arcane arts, and before she died, she wanted to make sure her grandchildren would be safe. So she knitted this sweater for me and infused it with her ArchFey's power, allowing me to take this Glorious form and protect the whole family." He then bows his head in sadness.
"When the Gnolls came, they slaughtered half the village.. those monsters...then took the other half with them in the cave by the statue. It is an abandonned mine shaft. They have been "saving" them for some sort of ritual, holding them prisonners deep inside the old Gem mine.
I wasn't able to get my sweater on time, and unfortunately, in my original form, I require assistance to don my armor.
Tarden wrote his note so that hopefully someone would take interest and action, and help me retrieve the magical sweater. And you were the ones who answered the call...My friends, I cannot thank you enough for having made it this far. I, Pebbles the Brave, owe you a sizeable debt...
He looks towards the cave, frowning.
"Now, I must warn you, there are about a dozen Gnolls in there, led by one of the Flesh Eaters. They worship Yeenoguh, the Demon of Eternal Hunger, and plan to sacrifice the prisonners soon....we must act quickly. I beg of you, we must rescue them! I cannot do this alone, but I am ready to die for my Family if I must..."
