As Edeleth helps Zyman getting the fire started, Rosri manages to pick the lock with no problems.
Him and Roscoe open the trap door (which, indeed, wasnt trapped) and step down a small and cranky wooden staircase leading to an old cellar.
The cellar, a 15 feet by 15 room, contains a few old wine bottles, a tattered map of Talaveroth hanging on the Wall, and a chest, resting on an old wooden table. The chest seems locked...
"Oi. Rosri. I founds something else for yous to open."Roscoe moves into the cellar and makes sure nothing his hiding in the shadows. He moves to grab as many bottles as he can. He'll take a seat and attempt to use something from his mess kit to get a bottle open. "Nice work Rosri!"
"Not you," says Edeleth firmly, catching the dog as it tries to go after Roscoe and Rosri. "You and I need to talk."
The halflings seem competent and eager to investigate the dank hole in the ground. Edeleth is sure he will hear them yelling if they need his help. He begins the ritual for the Speak with Animals spell.
OOC: The ritual should last 10 minutes if not interrupted by screaming halflings or other disturbances, and the spell should also last 10 minutes. Edeleth means to ask:
What is the dog's name? (Because etiquette is still important, even if the dog is starting to answer to 'nobles creature.'.)
He asks the dog to briefly describe what happened in Oakfields
He asks for a description of the place the survivors are hiding, so as to be able to recognize it, and lets the dog know they expect him/her to lead them to it.
He takes the dog out to look at the tracks and give an opinion on them, because they are bothering him.
Edeleth recites incantations, and throws a few random ingredients into the fire, which for a second turns pinkish....then he starts speaking to the dog. For anyone else watching, the dog (a Golden Retriever) just barks back to Edeleth:
1)"My master calls me Pebbles"
2)"Big laughing Dogs came to Master's home and took him and the rest of the family away. Some of the big laughing dogs were walking on two feet, like Humans...carrying sharp wooden sticks...they killed a lot of Humans..."
3) "They took Master and family to a Cave by the river. There was a sculpture next to cave..."
4)Pebbles sniffs the tracks, and looks at you..."These are the laughing dogs. Not the 2 legged ones, but the 4 legged ones. The 2 legged ones obey them, like I obey Master. But they treat them very bad...i dont know why they're always laughing..."

Roscoe's mess kit includes a corkscrew, so he pops open a dusty glass bottle with a very fancy metal label on it. It smells delicious, and its obviously way stronger than wine....
The damp cellar smells of mold. When Rosri goes down the creaking stairs he hear Roscoe calling for him that there is something else for him to open. “What did you find Mr. Roscoe?” Rosri replies. When he get down the stairs he can see Roscoe sitting on the floor and tries to open a bottle of wine. “I thought you ment something with a lock, bit I can give it a go later if you don’t succeed.” Rosri chuckles.
Rosri moves over to the map and inspects it. After he is done he takes it down and rolls it up. <You never know when you need a map over the area.>
Rosri then proceeds to investigate the cellar for secrets.
“Let’s take the wine up to the others to enjoy Roscoe, it will be a pleasant edition to the food.”

Rosri grabs the World Map, and notices the chest. It is a fine piece of work, but it is locked...and trapped ...one false move would trigger two spring loaded blades to slice the hands of whoever would try and open it...

OOC: can it be moved without triggering the trap?
Rosri - “Oh was it the chest you meant Mr. Roscoe? It is a fine piece of work. It is made of dark oak wood and gold covered hinges. On the top piece are engravings depicting different symboles and on the front piece are two thin slits. Below the slits is a warning engraved. “If you're the one who owns me proper, then go ahead and enjoy this copper. But if you are from thieving land, then take care.. I’ll eat your hand!”
”Can you give me a hand with this, I want to look at it in the light from the fire.” Rosri is a bit nervous but excited. This is just the kind of things he played as a kid.
Edeleth returns to the cabin with Pebbles, the spell concluded. Zyman is at the fireside, making his stew. Grunda is relaxing beside him, and rather pointedly looks from Edeleth to a pile of horse-apples on the floor, and back again. The halflings seem to have found something interesting. He can hear their excited voices coming up through the trap door.
Before anything else, though, he examines the hole in the side of the cabin with new trepidation. It was large enough for halflings to slip into the house. It would be large enough for hyenas. He starts looking around the cabin for furniture that could be used as a barricade, or better yet, a hammer and nails and something that could be nailed over the gap.
He also looks for a shovel or a broom and dustpan or something reasonably similar. Eighty-five years tending the sacred grove, and his previous life as a courtier, have accustomed him to dealing with all kinds of horse-poo, but if possible, he prefers not to do it with his bare hands.

While Roscoe easly carries his side of the treasure chest, Rosri is struggling like a mule to move up the stairs. At one point he even loses balance and almost falls, but Roscoe easily pulls him back up again.
When they finally make their way up the living room, Rosri is panting. “That is a heavy chest! But you lifted it like it was nothing!” Rosri looks over at the crimson headed halfling. By the fire he sees the ragged Zyman and the giant Grunda and Edeleth standing by the hole in the wall. The horses are also inside and the space is starting to get cramped. Maybe too cramped for Rosris liking..
He had forgotten the two dead men, who now was dragged to the side wall. “We found some interesting stuff down there. A boobie trapped chest, a map of the area and some wine as well! Show them Roscoe!” Rosri exclaim when he has gathers his breath. The sight and smell of the dead men makes him a little groggy. “Help me with the chest first, I want to inspect it closer by the fire light.”
Didn't know what roll to make for the inspection of the chest (im quite new to this)
Roscoe pulls one of the bottles from his bag and sets it on the table, keeping the opened bottle for himself. "Might be a nice place for yous to sleep down there to avoid the bit if weather that finds its ways in 'ere,"he says to the room. Roscoe takes some time to look over the main room in the cabin. Nature would reclaim this place soon enough. Roscoe watchs as his halfling counterpart worked on opening the chest. It always amazed him at how excited people would get about opening something that had been locked. If it wasn't something that'd protect him from a boar or a hawk, it didn't mean much to him. The liquid inside this bottle on the other hand sure was hitting the spot. He'd always had an interest in the spirits and it helped to warm him up from the cold journey.
As the two halflings (mainly Roscoe) carry the chest back up into the living room, and into the light of the fireplace where Zyman's stew is cooking, Rosri takes a closer look...it is most definitely trapped...but since he's taken his time to inspect the chest, and now has good lighting to work with, he may roll his tool check with advantage.
Meanwhile, Edeleth is looking for a way to patch up the hole in the wall, under Grunda's stern supervision.
Edeleth may roll either SURVIVAL, or a straight INTELLIGENCE check to patch up the hole
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Rosri wasn’t much of a drinker, and he certainly couldn’t hold his liquor very well. However, tonight he Would have some of the strong drink. He needed it to calm his nerves and it would help with the cold. He went over to his friend and took a long swig. Then he coughed.
Roscoe pats Rosri gently on the back and smiles. "Yous done well today." He looks back over at the chest. "Think yous can get that thing opened? What are yous hoping to find in there?"

Edeleth attempts to block the hole.

Whether or not he succeeds, he hurries to share the information Pebbles has given him, before anyone gets too drunk to comprehend it. As for himself, he is not going to drink anything. He has a bad feeling about tonight, and wants his head to be clear.
