Berrus manages to cock the ballista with several turns of the wench and gets the artillery piece ready to fire all while being protected by small gusts of wind that influence incoming projectiles from the pterafolk enough to only harmlessly strike the wooden deck around him. Small turbulences around the Star Goddess shake the airship around, but more importantly is disturbing the flight path of the pteradons and pterafolk encircling the ship. Although the deck is occasionally rumbling as a result of the turbulence, the large ship still provides a stable platform for any crossbowmen, whereas the pterafolk are struggling to get close to the ship. Nonetheless, several launch projectiles at the ship after diving at it from higher above.
Attack rolls against Maxine, Berrus, Shae, Zip in order: 13977
Maxine can see about twelve pteradons circling the ship, five of which are close enought that she could reliably hit them. Despite her best efforts, one of them manages to fling a javelin at Berrus, who is manning the ballista. It grazes his right arm for 6 Damage, leaving a bleeding gash behind.
Shae has less luck with her ballista, and the wench slips out of her grasp twice, but she recovers it successfully before the taught cord completely unravelled, and with some additional effort managed to cock a second one of the ballistae.
Unwilling to leave his cargo unattended, Faekin is guarding his company's crates in the cargo hold. Zip meanwhiledoes his best to draw attention away from Shae, who is manning the other ballista.
More javelins and rocks are thrown towards the other crew on deck, but weaving about, theyall avoid the javelins, and the few that are hit with stones wear armour heavy enough so as not to be affected by the projectiles.

Any other time Maxine would be in awe of the picture, but at the moment all she saw is hands trowing javelins. Cursing in dwarvish Maxine aimed at the beast with the most precise shot at Berrus (by her calculations). Flaming bolt disappeared somewhere in the monstrous flock, but the girl did not wait for the result. She broke a little capsule in her hand and with small "puff" got covered with a sort of greyish cloud, for some reason unpleasant to look upon.
Sanctuary on self as a bonus action
Attack roll on crossbow: 3 (proficiency dice) + Attack: 6 Damage: 8 + 6 (flaming effect)
P.S. Forgot to indicate potential damage. Attack roll did not change.
Gritting her teeth, Shae would watch a javelin pierce the deck next to her. Shae, you're being reckless again. "Thanks tips!" she'd say aloud in response to the voice. It was just hitting her now how dangerous her situation really was, "but it's not like I can back out now..." and with that personal pep talk, she'd reach for an arrow. Shae, you should take cover instead. "Shh, I'm concentrating." She'd focus on loading the ballista.
(Assuming the Pterafolk are still using missile weapons)
Pleasantly surprised by how well his little gusts of wind are protecting the crew and fighting passengers, Professor S keeps it up, attempting to divert incoming missiles but allowing the defender’s attacks to fly free.
Also, seeing Shae struggle with the ballista, he mentally directs his Unseen Servant to go load the bolt for her.
Snively directs the servant as a bonus action. It should be able to move and load the ballista bolt so Shae can shoot this round on her turn, but it is not strong enough to help much with the cranking itself.

Maxine's bolt hits a pterafolk fighter, and it bursts into flames, as it hurtles towards the deck with a blood-curdling scream. Slamming into the deck, the severely wounded creature rolls around extinguishing the flames, but doesn't manage to take off again, and instead attempts to charge at Maxine.
Both Berrus and Professor's Unseen servant decide to load the ballista with a set of a dozen clay bullets, in an attempt at clearing a larger area of attackers. Shae lets fly her ballista.
Attack roll for the ballista: 8 Damage: 9
The stone pellets strike three of the creatures, and although one tumbles briefly, it regains its composure. Four more pterafolk pepper the deck with their javelins. Falx lets loose on the second ballista on deck, but decides to fire an arrow instead. It strikes one of the pterafolk square in the chest, and with a gurgling sound, it plummets to the ground.
For Shae, Berrus, Maxine, Zip: 6, 17, 5, 18
For the second ballista: Attack roll for the ballista: 26 Damage: 17
Despite his best efforts, the Professor's gust isn't able to sway all of the projectiles, and one javelin hits Zip. Caught unawares, the javelin strikes him in the shoulder, and sinks in deep. Surprised and shocked, the loss of blood quickly takes effect and Zip passes out.
Damage: 9 Ouch… Zip, I need your first death saving throw.

Zip lies close to the door to the mess, covered by the wall and the ballista. Maxine herself is within five feet of him, with the door to the mess hall open so she can take shots at the pterafolk. Berrus is between a ptera and Maxine, manning the now ready-to-fire ballista on the main deck. Shae is crewing the ballista on the quarterdeck in front of the helmsman and was covered by the now unconscious Zip. Faekin has just arrived on the main deck, but fails to spot Zip behind the ballista, and casts dissonant whispers on the charging pterafolk with its back turned to Faekin.
