With that, I believe everyone is ready to begin the journey to the Turst Fields. One or two of you can make general perception checks that will cover the entire journey.
(I'll leave the perception checks to the others for the meantime. Just letting you know I won't be able to post for the rest of the day, got a pretty busy evening ahead of me.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I can either ride up front or take the last spot in our little caravan, either spots works for me as I used to scout for my tribe." Shadow pipes up and then will take the position told to me and keep a look out for anything paying particular attention to the group or anything that seems remotely hostile.
"I was thinking of being near the front, as I am the one who knows the way. Anyone who wishes to join me, I would most certainly welcome the company." Evelyn then makes her way to the front, waiting for the rest of the group to position themselves how they wish before leading the way.
"I'll keep towards the rear and keep an eye out." Xebrek mentions, one hand holding his crossbow, light idly over one shoulder. There is a pause in his words, before he says swiftly."Not that I wouldn't be happy to walk with you for the company. I meant it more as it is always useful to watch your back as well as where you are going."
Wilick waved his hand off to the left of the road. "Saraa and I will be off to the north slightly, in sight of the road, but looking for additional signs."
Grindal keeps to the right side of the road, just far enough away from the party that they can't hear his grumblings. The old dwarf still walks with a surprising spryness in his legs, though that doesn't stop him from complaining about the trek. He keeps his eyes forward, occasionally scanning the party to keep an eye on their whereabouts.
The first couple days go by without much excitement. You're travelling through the Dividing Plains, so most of the surrounding scenery is just flat grasslands, with the occasional hilly areas to break up the monotony. Other travelers along the road are fairly common, you have passed by general adventurers, a small group of guards, and multiple trade caravans heading the opposite direction. You have also passed a number of what look to be homesteads containing a house accompanied by a plot of land for farming.
A bit after midday of your third day of travel, Evelyn and Shadow: you notice a small plume of smoke on the other side of an approaching hill. At first you assume it's just a campfire or a chimney, but as you begin to climb the hill the plume appears to be growing larger. The main group comes to the top of the hill and see what would normally be a pleasant scene. About 60 feet off the road (200 feet from where you stand now), there are four houses arranged in a square with plowed paths between them. There is also what appears to be a shared plot of farmland with crops growing in rows. Each home has a small garden in the front with various flowers growing around the base of the walls around the doors. That is, each home but one... as one of the houses is on fire. The house bordering the road further away from you has been lit aflame, and you see two orcs swinging their greataxes at the front door of the other one that borders the road.
@Willick, you see the same thing but are farther away. This is on the south side of the road, so we'll say you're currently 300 feet from the houses and orcs at the moment. Saraa is farther out, but as she was scouting up ahead she saw this before you all, so she's making her way back to you.

[OOC: I am going to move 30' closer to the Orcs, and then attack with my light crossbow, I would assume I am at disadvantage because of the range but then I would be at advantage because of surprise? so just a normal roll? (Will put in a disadvantage roll in spoilers just in case.)
Shadows growls with hate at seeing the scene before him and will sprint 30' closer to the orcs and then aim his crossbow at one of them and fire.

Wilick moves with purpose back toward the group on the road. He can tell the others have noticed the fire and are reacting to the situation. There must be a reason why they want inside that house. Wilick raises his longbow, knocking an arrow. The 2 orcs were within bow shot, but it would be tricky. Instead of loosing the arrow he simply keeps it trained on the orcs ready to react to any threat.
Meanwhile, Saraa circles west staying off the road until she is directly across from the houses, within striking distance.
Initiative: 21
ooc: not sure if it is needed yet
Wilick moves in a straight line (30ft) toward the rest of the group, not the houses. He readys a ranged attack with his longbow to release if the orcs move toward the party in an aggressive manner.
Ranged attack if needed for the above readied action: Attack: 25 Damage: 10 - No disadvantage for range due to sharpshooter feat.
Saraa dashes (100ft) toward the buildings, following the direction of the road.
Wow ok you all go before the orcs and can act in any order.
As of now the orcs don't seem to be aware of your presence, so it's your choice of whether to take the guaranteed surprise round or try to get to a closer range first but risk them noticing you.
Averet, who remained around the centre of the main group during their travels, unsheaths his shortsword and prepares his spells. "Should we go and try to sneak up on them?" He carefully asks the others.

OOC: Averet is asking if we should sneak up on them and Shadow is already charging ahead firing his crossbow :)
Upon seeing the flames, Evelyn stands shocked and frozen for a few moments, eyes wide open but suddenly makes a mad dash straight towards the house without a care that the orcs may see her.
Movement: 60ft towards the burning house. (So 140ft more to go?)
Grindal looks around wildly at his companions, gauging their reactions. Practically useless at range, he charges behind Evelyn, his stubby legs carrying him more slowly.
"Bah, but don't take all me fun," he mutters.
Movement: 50 feet toward the house, behind Evelyn.

Well thats. Great. Do I get to also roll for my animal companion?
I'll say Saraa can give you advantage on your perception check here.

Evelyn chuckles at Xebrek. "No need to explain or defend yourself. I understand. It's a good and reasonable sounding plan."
@Wilick How far off the road are you going?

OOC: approx 100 ft. Still within easy range of my longbow. I will let Saraa range out to about 300 ft.

If you are attacking we'll roll initiative. For this campaign I'm going to try to roll initiative for everyone, but I'll keep Wilick's roll for this.
