Welcome, Adventurers, to The Yawning Portal! As you enter the famed tavern you see a giant hole (Perfectly round hole, doesn't look like anything broke through) that seemingly goes on forever in the middle of the room, and levels going 3 floors up! And you can see races of all kinds, Dwarves, Humans, Tieflings, even a Beholder! Over at the counter you can see a gruff man who welcomes you and tells you to stay a while!
A tall young human male clad in chain mail enters the tavern, on his right hip he bears a longsword, on his back he has a shield engraved with an armored gauntled. Around his neck he has an pendant with the same symbol. He waves back to the bartender. "Gunthar Silverblade at your service."
A lithe looking half-elf enters the tavern. He pauses for a moment to take in the scenery with all of his senses, to the point that he can almost taste the ale whose fragrance is wafting through the air. You smell one tavern, you smelled them all. But this one is different. This... Yawning Portal has the stink of adventure. And adventure always proves trouble.
The half-elf lightly traces his hand over his armour and weaponry in case he'd need it before making his way over to the counter. 'Greetings.'Gallias says to the bartender.'Is Jalester Silvermane around perchance?'
The bartender waves back, "I'm guessing you're an adventurer? From your armor and sword I could probably guess so, just don't go doin' yer darn "Adventuring" down in Undermountain, everyone that goes down there dies, it's pretty easy to tell given the sounds of screeching stirges and screaming cowards! By the way, I'm Durnan, Do you want a drink? We have plenty of Shadowdark Ale since the last shipment arrived a yesterday."
(To Furu) "Actually, yes! He's over at the table over there. " *Points to Jalester* "Just be sure to watch your manners, He's quite an impressionable person."
A warforged sits at a table next to Mattrim bobbing his head to the music as he looks through his items and books, looking at the new arrivals curiously then goes back to looking through his items.

Jonas enters the tavern, sword at his side and shield on his back. Tall and sinewy the half orc isn't as beefy as one might expect but clearly strong. His green skin is marked by a jagged scar that runs from his right ear to the chin as if the bone had been pushed through at some point.
As he enters he looks to the bar. "Table and drink" reaching behind his back he pulls 2 gutted hares. "I'd have these cooked too, doesn't seem like the type of place I can get away with eating them raw"
(I'll just quickly list everyone's familiar faces for quick reference, Caobis, Tamu, and PoorBui are Mattrim "Threestrings" Mereg, BlueBayou is Odaya Uday, Furujiru is Jalester Silvermane, and MaxHam is Meloon Wardragon)

'Thanks.' Gallias replies. He takes a moment to make a notice of the human clad in chain mail displaying a sword. Man like that walks into a place like this either expects trouble or is trouble.
Gallias turns around and walks over to where Jalester is sitting. He draws up a free chair and seats himself at the table. 'Jalester.' He nods at the human patron. 'What's new in Waterdeep?'
Durnan: "That'll be one silver please, and cooking them vermins will be 4 coppers"
You see Jalester seemingly staring into space: "Someone close to me died last year. Which I guess is new, nothing else really... Though the Cassalanters seem really uptight lately and there have been more Xanathar crackdowns recently, don't really know what's up with them" As his voice drifts away "What's been happening with you?" You recognise the Cassalanters as a noble family from up top in the ranks

'Sorry for your loss.' Gallias signals a passing barmaiden for two of their strongest ales. A man in mourning should not drink alone. 'Me? The City Watch does as the City Watch does. Though I'm a bit in a dry spell as there hasn't been much that requires my talents.'
He pauses to dig out a few coins when a barmaiden places two mugs of ale on the table and takes a quick chug. 'Nobles getting their knickers in a bunch is par for the course in the City of Splendors. So what's this about Xanathar crackdowns? Know any who, what, when, where and why?'
(Also, quick question for much later but how does everyone feel about doing a murder mystery at some point? There is a murder mystery in this adventure but I've never done a murder mystery before but it has I'm maybe important campaign stuff in it, though maybe just it's there because murder mysteries are fun, although all five of the main adventures are mysteries, though some of them less mysterious, POLL UP TOP)
(And the second poll is for basically deciding what the entire campaign is about and who the baddies are, so you probably wanna vote, also autumn is Spring, it just said fall and so I randomly decided fall was spring as I, being british, use autumn instead of fall)
"The Xanathar Guild, you must've heard of them, ya' know... Guild that claims they're a guild and if you don't call them a guild then they send one of their dozens of trained assassins to kill you, no one knows who runs those hellhounds", He goes on, "all I know is ya' should not mess with 'em, crazy they are! Now, enough of that, gonna get our heads chopped off if we continue talking 'bout them."
As you all sit around doing your own thing the sounds of gamblers yelling and drunken adventurers singing bawdy songs nearly drown out the off-key strumming of a young bard three tables over.
Then all the noise is eclipsed by a shout: “Ya pig! Like killin’ me mates, does ya?” Then a seven-foot-tall half-orc is hit by a wild, swinging punch from a male human whose shaved head is covered with eye-shaped tattoos. Four other humans stand behind him, ready to jump into the fray. The half-orc cracks her knuckles, roars, and leaps at the tattooed figure — but before you can see if blood is drawn, a crowd of spectators clusters around the brawl. What do you do?
(I'ma doze off now so that everyone has a chance to say what they want to do, while I'm gone try and negotiate what yall're gonna do as you all hear this)

(Also, a question, if both Caobis and Tamu know Mattrim do both of you know each other?)
(Lassodon just really hangs out and chats with Mattrim as he works on projects or reviews notes or his books)

"So what brings you here, Half-Orc?" *Durnan takes the Hares and cooks them while preparing some Shadowdark Ale*

"Well I know my friend Mattrim frequents this area and I'm in between jobs at the moment so a place that accepts most types of people sounded good"
