The Siege of Castle Rend
The Adventure of Isildin, Onyx, and Elandriel
Where we last left off
Onyx, Izilden, and Elandriel were just about to attack the huge band of White Tusk Orcs, when Pinna dashed in and tried to stop everyone fighting. She successfully slowed everything down enough for both parties to avoid killing each other. Or instead of 'both parties', perhaps we should say 'all three parties'; Elandriel had found herself in a possessed suit of armor, leading a dozen other possessed suits of armor to take back the Castle Rend from these defiling orcs.
Everyone talked and the leader of the White Tusk Orcs, named Bonebreaker Dorokor, revealed that the dastardly Lord Saxton, the usurping Lord over the Barony of Bedegar (where you all are now), hired the White Tusk Orcs to kill the whole Bedegar family. Lord Saxton's agents allowed the White Tusk Orcs into Bedegar Keep, where they did the deed. Except Bonebreaker Dorokor, fearing treachery, spared Edmund Bedegar's life and absconded with the young heir. Indeed, Lord Saxton almost immediately betrayed the White Tusk Orcs and set the Knights of the Three Roses to whipping the orcs out of civilized lands. The White Tusk Orcs kidnapped Pinna the Hedgewitch in order to begin bargaining with local powers, desiring to knock Lord Saxton down a peg, and perhaps even removing him from the position of Regent of Bedegar.
After negotiation, the White Tusk Orcs left Edmund Bedegar, Pinna, Isildin, Onyx in charge of Castle Rend.
Whereupon Edmund Bedegar, true heir to the Barony of Bedegar, thanked the three adventurers for setting him at liberty. He then sought their interest, seeking to know whether they would be willing to help him reclaim his birthright and bring justice to Saxton. Finding them willing to help, he named them to his Small Council. Then he wanted to take a nap.
The Heir to the Barony of Bedegar left to get some rest for the night.
And that is where we will continue.
Where we are now
The sun set perhaps an hour earlier. The castle seems empty. It stinks of orc (mostly orc sweat with a side of rotting meat).
There is a ghost possessing Isildin. The ghost transferred from Elandriel to Isildin when Isildin communicated interest in hosting the ghost. The ghost is confused and angry, and able to take control of Isildin's movement whenever it wants. It wishes that the White Tusk Orcs had died, but is glad that they no longer have control of the dilapidated Castle Rend. It is currently seething quietly in the back of Isildin's mind, growing more angry and confused.
People in the room: Pinna, Onyx, Isildin, Elandriel. Also the mischievous sprites that follow Isildin incessantly.
For your current surroundings, check out this photo album: See Screenshot 1, of the main hall of Castle Rend.
For everyone unfamiliar with Play-by-Post games (PbP) (which is mostly just Taylor and me) here are some quick ideas:
Handling Out of Game Questions/Discussion:
Anything out-of-game, like questions or clarifications, enter it like this: (OOC What was the name of the town, again? The one Pinna comes from, the place where we sang at the inn?)
And I would reply with: (OOC: The town is named Gravesford! It is about an hour's travel from you now, in the Castle Rend. The inn was The Reluctant Pig. Innkeeper Gowan, though his wife Giselle is mostly the bartender. Daughter's name is Brecca, she seemed 11 or 12.)
How Much or How Little to Type
I am very rusty with PbP games. Isildin and Elandriel, I'll ask you to weigh in here. Basically, we should only type what our character does, and perhaps a little bit outside that - correct?
Looking around expectantly “So is anybody hungry? I bet there is something here to eat, or maybe we can go hunt for something that doesn’t smell like orc”
Pinna speaks up. "I am crazy tired, but I would also love some food that doesn't smell like orc. Except I don't know how to hunt. Ooh, but I can start a fire with magic!" She looks a little frazzled from her ordeal of being kidnapped the night before, and being surrounded by bestial orcs all day. Her enthusiasm shines through her tiredness.
Isilden smiles: “Capital! We can have a hot meal! That said I’ve never known Elandriel to be content with the aroma of food unless she was eating raw roses. In fact, it’s her favorite dish!”
Subtly I prompt my familiars to scatter illusory rose petals around Elandriel for the next hour.
"I don't care much what it is as long as it's charred black. I could certainly use some sustenance either way, though." Onyx turns to Pinna. "Are we anywhere close to a tavern or do we need to hunt for our own food?"
Pinna has to be asked twice because she is watching the magic going back and forth, and enjoying the sight. She seems worried about the fire on Isilden's cloak for a moment, but giggles and turns to Onyx partway through the question.
"What? Sorry." After hearing the question again, she replies with a shrug, "No, I think the White Tusk Orcs took us deep into the forest. Nothing out here that I know of. I didn't even know this ruin was still standing."
She rolls a 20 on her History check (17+Intelligence of 3).
She thinks for a second and says, "I think this is Castle Rend, the castle that Good King Omund raised and ruled from before Ajax the Conqueror killed him and scattered his dragonborn phalanxes. Happened one hundred and... two years ago, I think?"
(I will have you roll for a Survival check to track and hunt, if you continue on that course. You can go ahead and roll that now, to be prepared. And then everyone who goes with you will roll a Stealth check.) (So Rubymaid rolls Survival, and everyone else who accompanies Elandriel will roll Stealth.) (Isilden also still has a confused ghost inside him, not currently controlling his body but seemingly ready to do so at any point.)

Let Us Begin!
Ooh, but I can start a fire with magic!"
She looks a little frazzled from her ordeal of being kidnapped the night before, and being surrounded by bestial orcs all day.
I roll my eyes at the absurdity of it and subtly cast an illusion in which Isildin thinks for a moment that his cloak is on fire.
“Hunting it is then” I declare. “Let’s go” I sling my bow over my shoulder and head out the castle door
”coming your royal pompousity?” I call to Isilden
(I will have you roll for a Survival check to track and hunt, if you continue on that course. You can go ahead and roll that now, to be prepared. And then everyone who goes with you will roll a Stealth check.)
(So Rubymaid rolls Survival, and everyone else who accompanies Elandriel will roll Stealth.)
