It seems the night passes fast. You each wake up in your rooms to the smell of a hardy breakfast being prepared down stairs. The wagon of supplies pulled by 2 horses is parked in the back just as Gundren said it would be.
Hibiblius finds a damp, crumpled, tattered, and worn note in his room. All you can make out is the word “spider”. The rest of the note’s ink is illegible as if the ink got wet.
I come down the stairs and see breakfast being laid out.
I say to the barkeep
"So what's on the menu for breakfast, also have you seen the halfling I was with last night? I half expected him to be sitting here battling sobriety..."
Innkeeper replies, “We have a special of de day.. eggs and sausage. No halfling a’bout today. I heard he was given some ‘mad orc 19/19’. Dat stuff will rot ye a bit.. make it a slow start to da day....”
I eye the breakfast laid out, *not exactly a hunt from the woods but I've eaten worse* I think to my self as I sit down to breakfast and wait for the halfling.
It appears there is nothing else disturbed in your room. There is no evidence of who left the note; However, that note was not there when you fell asleep.
The innkeeper walks up to your table you both are sitting at and says “I was told that your wagon is out back and to let you know The High Road looks clear to Triboar Trail. Will there be anything else you need from me today?”
I look with spared judgment at my new friend wondering if it's customary for halflings to start the day already wound up and try not to imagine the rest of our journey being filled with high strung mornings...
"Seems you're feeling quite alive today halfling, however I too am ready to set out I suppose"
I say as i stand up and make my way outside to meet our employer.
The innkeeper says “ Very well. Gundren says to leave when you are ready. Wish you both a safe passage. Good day!”.
You leave the inn via the rear entrance and see the wagon with 2 horses strapped up to the wagon and ready to go. All seems to be in order for the journey.
As you leave town you do not notice anything unusual.
You’ve been on the Triboar Trail for about half a day. As you come around a bend, you spot two dead horses sprawled about fifty feet ahead of you, blocking the path. Each has several black-feathered arrows sticking out of it. The woods press close to the trail here, with a steep embankment and dense thickets on either side. This causes you to stop the wagon as there isn't anyway to go around the dead horses.

Can I do a perception check to see if anything else in my room has been disturbed, or if there's any evidence of who left the note?

I run downstairs, ignoring the smell of fresh food. Once again stumbling, but this time in anger instead of a consequence of alcohol.
"Alright, which trickster here left this note in my room? Innkeeper, I suggest you invest in stronger locks."
I look at Voren'thal, but trust he had no hand in this. I continue stomping around the room and eyeballing everyone as I stuff my face with food.
The innkeeper walks up to your table you both are sitting at and says “I was told that your wagon is out back and to let you know The High Road looks clear to Triboar Trail. Will there be anything else you need from me today?”
"I've got all I need to start this little adventure of ours"

I walk outside and climb into the wagon while greeting Gundren and look around curiously...
"We should be off before long, have you seen my companion Hibblesby per chance?"
I step out of the nearby brushes, tightening my belt in a hurry.
"I'm right here, quit bellyaching. No sense waiting till an hour into the ride ta empty the bladder. Let's get a move on then."
I finish securing my weapons and jump onto the wagon.
I step into the wagon behind him and let Gundren know we're ready to head out

What do you do?
As the wagon comes to a halt I stretch my arm out in front of the halfling and say:
"Careful Hibiblios, the forest can be a deceptively dangerous place... give me a moment please"
I'd like to do a perception check to see if I can see or hear anything hidden in the forest edge near the trail.
((Perception check roll - both of you please))
