The sting of the claws doesn't pierce through the haze of rage and Gruun's focus on the Slaadi. He relies on his answer for almost everything, brute force.
Karst slams his axe hard into the slaad's back. The creature stumbles forward, bringing its arms up to block Aradurk's sword, but the half-orc feints, driving the blade through its kneecap and to the ground, eye level for Wes's questioning.
"I suppose not," it spits back at the gnome, cackling, "But Doramor has destroyed too many of the Magi's weapons. The Shrine cannot stop the Descent. It is...too late. This world shall know true love!"
The smile stays locked on its face as Killian frees its head from its shoulders.
Roccar spits on the corpse. "Well done, everyone. That's one down. Return with me to the hideout and I will get you your payment," he says.
OOC: Each character has received 842 XP for defeating the death slaad.
At this point, you may wish to further introduce yourselves and talk about what your characters know about the storyline so far. How does everyone respond to the situation, in either first or third person? When you are ready, meet Roccar at his hideout for payment.
Killian wipes her sword on her stained cloak, inspects it, and sheathes it. She reaches down for the thing’s head, and holds it up for Wes. “Your head,” she says drily, pushing some hair behind one ear and out of her face. The fire in her demeanor when she was fighting has been replaced by a weariness in every line of her body.
“You all seem to know Roccar, which is as good as we are going to get for trusting each other. Call me Killian,” she offers before turning to look over the body with a disinterested eye.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
“Excellent, I must say. I needed it intact.... until now. There is a crystal inside where the brain should be. I think this is a key to their shapeshifting and to whomever is controlling them. We need to get it out. I would take it back to my lab, however I feel time is of the essence. Anyone willing to crack the coconut?”
The weasel now docile wrapped around the shoulders and neck of the gnome.
Wes will attempt to help anyone crack the head open as well as investigate for the best option to open the head.
“Glad everyone’s on the same side. Name’s Aradurk. Wes - we can certainly try to use my hand ax. Seems to work well on splitting open other creatures’ skulls.”
Aradurk looks around and shares a toothy half-orc smile to anyone watching. His attire is clean and spartan, more soldier than civilian.
“Wes - you doing ok?”

Wes Fumbles over his words and stutters s boy to start as Petunia hides in a breast pocket of his robe. “Me?.. W-well of course I’m fine, just business as usual here. We need to find answers if we are ever going to make progress against the Slaad. I’m fine, we should keep our focus on the mission.” Wes says sternly. Keeping a straight face, but for those of you who have been working with Wes, he does certainly seem more frazzled in nature than normal.
"We will triumph Wes, fear not." Karst smiles over at the gnome., "We have new allies and we know our purpose, the gods see our deeds and we are mighty, the slaad know our names, do not doubt it, and they run at our coming." Karst's bravado is genuine, but he looks across at Roccar curiously wondering where the will head next.

OOC: Aradurk, Karst, Killian and Wes have received 100 XP.
"Perhaps you should take care of that at the hideout," Roccar suggests, pointing toward the small crowd of curious onlookers that has gathered again at the entrance of the alley. "I will handle them and dispose of the body. You take the head, and I'll meet you there."
For Wes:
Looking at the creature, you're not sure where the best place is to begin the dissection, though its head resembles that of any other humanoid. Its tough, scaly hide could make it difficult, however.
(Alright here we go - hopefully we get some leeway here)
Looking at the crowd Wes nods “True... true.”
bringing the head back to the safe house. Wes takes his tool and begins to clear away all the skin and viscera the best he can. Hopefully revealing some type of magnum foramen. Wes will then pour his potion of diminution into the whole, hopefully shrinking the crystal. If the effects take, then using a pair of tongs, simply pull the crystal out.
If this doesn’t work, Wes simply says “Aradurk, time to use the axe!”
Rycider, with the help of some from some local boys, will have the scene cleaned up. Conferring with Roccar, she will have the body taken away and burnt in a nearby crematorium. She will also pay for a round of drinks for the house at the tavern.
All up she pays around 10gp to make it as though it never happened.
When they return to the safe house, Ricky will help in curing wounds of the party.
Gruun smiles at the group after the kill. "I am Gruun. I am looking forward to more hunts with all of you, together we can take care of all of these things." He'll assist in the removal of the head using his hands and his dagger. After giving the head to Wes, he would go with Rycider. Not speaking, but embodying the other side of Rycider's offer.
If Wes has still not gotten the crystal out of the skull by the time he is back at the hideout, he will assist in cracking the skull open. With excessive force in the form of a curb stomp.
While Roccar takes care of the slaad body, Rycider and Gruun set to cleaning the scene and helping the locals drink the sights away, the rest of the party returns to the newest front for Roccar's safehouse, a barber shop. In the basemeent, the main room is jammed with supplies, standard weapons, and equipment. A prison cell stands empty in one corner, a closed door on one wall leads to an adjoining room, and in the center of it all is a large portal frame, marked along its rim with arcane glyphs, currently deactivated.
Wes moves to a table in another corner, clearing it away and setting down the large slaad head. The gnome gets to work.
OOC: Removed 10 gold pieces from Rycider's inventory.
Aradurk, Karst, Killian and Tanakir have a moment to explore the safehouse if they would like, while Gruun, Roccar, Rycider, and Wes are away or busy.
Killian secures her bow and quiver from where she left them, making sure the quiver is as full as it can be. She then loosens the straps on her splint and sits somewhere off to the side to watch Wes work on the slaad head. She does not offer conversation to her new companions, but she's not hostile either.

I am glad to have allies such as you all in this fight. Even though it still seems to be an uphill battle, we must have faith that we can conquer these monsters."
Aradurk makes mental notes, comparing this to the last Roccar hideout he visited and starts examining the weapons for quality and as well as perusing for a replacement to his lost hand axe.

Aradurk has no trouble locating a handaxe. The arms gathered here are a fine quality; it seems Roccar has not been holding back in his stockpiling.
The potion unfortunately has no effect on the slaad's decapitated head, but it does not deter Wes. He splits open the slaad's head, having to dig intricately into the creature's thick skull. The brain is a pallid grey color, and the gnome seems to believe there is something inside of it, based on his next movements. The brain is thick and resists the cutting of the knife, forcing Wes to work very delicately, for fear of cutting too hard and shattering what lies within. It is a long and sweaty ten minutes before Wes triumphantly removes an object from within the slaad brain: A rather large object, looking much like a gemstone, its ruby red color slowly transitioning to a dull grey before your eyes.
At the same moment, the door is budged open, and Roccar enters with a number of pouches, each filled with coinage. "Your payment has arrived! 1,000 gold pieces, split evenly seven ways. One of you is going to have to be a gold piece short, I'm afraid. At least, I think...it's a lot of coin to count," he says, setting the pouches down. He also removes four potions of healing from a pocket and sets them on a table in the corner of the room. He leans on the wall next to the table and says, "We have much to discuss. There's...a lot you should know, and I'd like to only explain things once. When Rycider and Gruun arrive, I shall fill you in."
While the party counts their coins, Roccar eventually notices someone (likely Wes) look toward the portal. "Don't worry, I changed the command word. No more slaadi are getting through to join their fellows here," he says.
OOC: Added hand axe to Aradurk's inventory. Removed potion of diminution and added slaad gemstone to Wes's inventory.
Each character has received 142 gold pieces. Left over are 6 gold pieces to be claimed.
Leaving some time for one more round of RP/exploration from those within the safehouse before Gruun and Rycider return from the tavern.
The adjoining room is small, and empty except for a large chunk of quarried rock and a stack of old books. The rock has a narrow two-foot protrusion at the top, which is covered by a scorched set of chain mail.
