The airship gently tilts downwards. You see the clouds rushing by as you descend out of the mountains of Zilargo and towards land. Angelica d’Sivis waves you over, giving you the same conspiratorial look she gave you when you agreed to be a part of this journey. “We’re making a short pit stop at the edge of Darguun, a nation of goblins,”she says. “This ship is state of the art, but it’s an experimental design; it needs to stop every now and then for repairs and calibrations. Don’t want this beauty falling apart on us in mid-air!”She cackles, then realizes what she said isn’t funny.
“Anyway, I have something to ask of you. I’d like you to get to know the crew, and help me form some away teams for a reconnaissance mission on the ground.”
The Celeste Noir descends over the mountains, and lands in a secluded valley at the edges of Darguun, a young nation of founded by emancipated goblins, hobgoblins, and bugbears in the wake of the Last War. The vessel needs to land to allow the ship’s engineers to perform regular maintenance. The landing site is near the Torlaac River, about a day’s walk from the village of Grellreach.
Once landed in Darguun, you're going to have a chance to get to know the crew of the Celeste Noir before our upcoming mission. After meeting the crew, Angelica asks you all for help putting together teams for a reconnaissance mission she’s performing within the Darguun wilderness.
Angelica’s request is simple: create three away teams, using the six crewmembers and your group. She encourages you to include one of the crew members in your team, and split the other five in a way that you think will help them get along best. She warns you that your group will likely face a fair bit of combat, so bringing someone who will help you fight better will make future combat encounters easier.
Benjamin Octavius. Benjamin is the ship’s surgeon. He’s a student of medicine studying at Morgrave University in Sharn, and is currently on break. He chose to accompany this voyage because he wanted hands-on experience, and this seemed like a thrilling way to get it. The idea of hanging around in a House Jorasco hospital all day drives him mad.
Oliver Ramorell. Oliver grew up poor and hungry in the shadows of Rhukaan Draal, capital city of the young, goblin-run nation of Darguun. He fled from Darguun to Sharn as a teenager, but lost his parents in the process. Now he has dedicated himself to the arts of swordsmanship and weapon maintenance, serving as hired muscle for petty criminals in Sharn. He leapt at the chance to join Angelica d’Sivis on her journey, for he saw it as a chance to turn his life around.
Brunhilde Kheldeburn. Brunhilde is a bright and cheerful warrior who transforms into a howling maniac in battle. She hails from the Lhazaar Principalities, and served as a master artillerist aboard a sea baron’s flagship for twenty years. A public disgrace forced her to retire from her naval life, and she left her old life behind to find new work aboard ships and airships in Sharn. Nevertheless, her secret shame doesn’t seem to have dampened her spirits, and she remains a happy-go-lucky ray of sunshine aboard her new and exciting assignment aboard the Celeste Noir.
Natsuko Hayashi. Natsuko was born to a wealthy family in Sharn, Natsuko fled her life of luxury after she received a barrage of letters threatening her life from an anonymous source. She left Sharn by lightning rail, but her journey was disrupted when its elemental engine exploded. She only survived because of a wandering member of a druid circle who brought her back to her enclave for healing. Over the next fifteen years, Natsuko trained in the Eldeen Reaches as a druid and also plied her family trade as a cartographer, aiding Eldeen druids and Brelish scholars alike. She was hesitant to join Angelica’s expedition—namely, she worried about the fame such an historic undertaking might win her—but her reputation as the best cartographer in Eldeen drove Angelica to insist, and eventually she relented.
Demetrius d’Lyrandar. Demetrius is the peerless but laconic pilot of the Celeste Noir. As a dragonmarked heir of House Lyrandar, he is uniquely equipped to pilot this craft. Though anyone could attempt to pilot the ship, their navigations would be halting, childlike, and dangerous compared to the effortless ease granted to Demetrius by his Mark of Storms.
When drunk—which he is most evenings—he may comment that he initially refused to join Angelica’s crew, but she showed him a document that instantly changed his mind. If pressed, he immediately backpedals, and pretends to have been joking. If forced to respond, he dismally reveals that Angelica dredged up a record of a murder he committed while exploring the Demon Wastes, several years ago. He murdered his travel partner for a silver idol bearing an inscription of an aberrant dragonmark, which he sold for a tidy profit in Droaam. He escaped from prison, and sought haven in Breland. Such a document would land him right back in prison, probably for life—so he took the job.
Aubrey Galatea. Aubrey is Angelica’s first mate. If Aubrey joins the characters in combat, she fights as a frontline warrior.
Willow curiously approaches the new people, studying them for a second before approaching Benjamain and Aubrey. "I believe you two will be in a recon group with me and my sister. My name is Willow." She extends her hand slightly and bows a little with a smile, her ears perked and tail wagging slightly. "My sister is Athela."

Vignette approaches Averian, and whispers “Mind if I join you for this mission? Who of the crew looks interesting? Demetrius, obviously. But who else?”
Averian goes pale as Vignette suggests partnering with Demetrius, "Oh! Uh, sure, we can work together, I guess. The pilot looks kinda menacing don't you think? There's really no need to be add him to our group. The quartermaster looks like a right friendly guy, though you can never be too sure, ya know. Not saying I'm suspicious of anyone having ulterior motives or anything, but it's best to be wary, right?"
Vignette: “Oh, I apologize good sir I assumed you looked up to Demetrius?” Nodding, she continues “I agree. That quartermaster might be a good addition. How about Brunhilde? She seems quite spirited! Might add a good amount of muscle to our....hmmmm, how to put this politely, more studious group?”
Bea bounces up behind Cora, reaching out and linking their arms together with a smile on her face. “You n me, sugar, with whoever is left over I suppose. Maybe the pilot since twitchy is lookin’ a little uncomfortable with him about... You wanna choose our other lucky teammate?”

Cora felt Bea's arm interlock with hers, and she accepted it gladly. It took a moment to stop smiling and focus, but she managed to peel her gaze away to answer Bea's question. "You got it." She agreed, "You, Demetrius. And.."she looked around as Demetrius walked towards them both. She saw the dwarf. Reminded her of Chubby, who was good to her for the entire time they knew each other. Even left her a massive fortune she used to create a hidden base and technology that saved her life numerous times. It was an easy choice. "..you, Brunhilde. Come on down."
She turned to Bea once more, giving her arm a gentle squeeze. "How's that?"
Vignette looks over at Oliver up and down, and addresses him "Aye, Oliver is it? Oi see you're good wi' a blade? Good man. Wud yer be willin' ter use dat blade ter 'elp protect wee auld me on a mission?"
Turning to address Natsuko, "An' yer, miss Hayashi? Oi don't see yer carryin' any blade ... is yisser wit as sharp as any blade in a battle?"
Clapping Twitchy on the back, she attempts to spur the group forward: "Al' roi den. Let's go!"
Bea’s eyebrows rose in interest when Cora picked the dwarf to complete their little team. The rogue had her reasons, she was sure, plus Brunhilde looked to be a fun and colorful character! When asked how she felt, she looked to Cora, eyes filled with admiration and a little bit of something else. “Perfect~”

Before Bea could finish her sentence, Cora had already yoinked her away with her, closing the door to her room behind her - leaving Brunhilde with an amused look on her face as Demetrius stared into the camera like he was on The Office.
Angelica d’Sivis stands in front of you, hands on her hips. Despite her short stature, the determination on her face makes her seem huge. “Here’s the mission, friends,”she says grimly. “Find Ziggy Arcingwind, an artificer that served in the Last War. He’s hiding here… maybe under a false name. He stole magical secrets from Morgrave University—secret information that we need to complete this mapmaking project. I need you to sneak into Grellreach and find him. Take him by force if you have to. But please, do so sneakily. We don’t want an international incident on our hands.”
Angelica hands you a piece of paper with a charcoal sketch of a goblin with thick glasses, a heavily lined face, and wispy white hair. “This is him, as best as I remember him. Good luck.”
From here, the journey from the Celeste Noir’s landing site to Grellreach is simple. The path is a wide open plain.
A quaint village made of thatched-roof cottages stands before you. Though the sun is setting, the village is still bustling with activity. Goblins and hobgoblins dressed in simple tunics and breeches, or dresses and bonnets, walk casually through the streets, carrying baskets filled with produce back to their homes. Small children run through the streets, playing with dogs larger than they are. With so many people out and about, sneaking in will prove difficult.
The need to accomplish three objectives in Grellreach: enter the town undetected, find Ziggy Arcingwind, leave the town undetected.
How do you accomplish each objective? Send one team in. Make three rolls at DC12 per objective. If any of the rolls fail, you have failed and must return back to the ship. Then, another team can try. If one team fails, the successes do not carry over - you have to start from the beginning. Only one try per team. And yes, you can help each other.
Taking the lead, the super heroes jump into action! Natsuko plays the part of a head of household shopper, in town to find the market to pick up some fresh vegetables. The rest of us are her assistants.

Bea, Cora, Demetrius, and Brunhilde snuck in quietly. Found the goblin, and returned to the ship. He was startled to see us, so while he was gasping in shock, Cora punched him in the face, knocking him out. They snuck out of the town, and returned to the Noir. Back on board, Angelica was pleased. Ziggy stared at Angelica with a look of mistrust and confusion, and he was whisked away to the brig.
Athela grins. "You know I am, sis."
