Nestled in the rocky foothills of the snow-capped Sword Mountains is the mining town of Phandalin, which consists of forty or fifty simple log buildings. Crumbling stone ruins surround the newer houses and shops, showing how this must have been a much larger town in centuries past.
Phandalin’s residents are quiet, hard-working folk who came from distant cities to eke out a life amid the harsh wilderness. They are farmers, stonecutters, blacksmiths, traders, prospectors, and children. The town has no walls and no garrison, but most of the adults keep weapons within easy reach in case the need for arms should arise.
Visitors are welcome here, particularly if they have coin to spend or news to share. The Stonehill Inn at the center of town offers modest lodging and meals. A couple of doors down from the inn, posted outside the townmaster’s hall, is a job board for adventurers.
This nondescript mining settlement, nestled in the foothills of the Sword Mountains, serves as the starting location for the adventure.
Backstory: A crack shot with a bow, Connak was training as a member of the elvish military and would have been a great marksman or even an instructor. Unfortunately, Connak also has impulse problems and pockets things that don't belong to him. Caught one too many times doing this, he was told to leave and not to return until healed of his bad habit and worthy of a place in elvish society. Wandering aimlessly, Connak finds himself in Phandalin looking for work and trouble.
I am interested in joining. I am working on building a fighter and PM with the information shortly.

Barric joined the military at a young age, following in his father's footsteps. He served for four years, and achieved the rank of sergeant, but he only saw real combat once. His captain gave a bad order, and Barric ordered his men to follow out of a sense of duty and honor, unquestioning. The battle went poorly, and most of his regiment was slain or captured. Barric woke up on the battlefield, wounded and surrounded by the dead. Unable to move, he cried out for help, and a travelling merchant who had come upon the battlefield found him and nursed him back to health.
Barric blamed himself for the massacre, second guessing what he could of done, how things might have gone differently. When he was healthy, Barric was unwilling to rejoin the army. A deserter, he wandered, and found himself in the town of Phandalin, looking for work, his money almost gone.
Barric is a young man looking for answers about himself. He is ashamed of his desertion, but is unwilling to be a soldier for men who would throw lives away like pawns on a board. He blames himself for his dead comrades, cursing himself that he blindly followed orders, even orders he knew to be foolhardy. He is looking for answers about himself and his character, hoping that one day he might regain the honor he has lost, hoping that the ghosts of his men's memories that haunt him might be laid to rest.

Backstory is a WIP. Did not know where I wanted to use this particular character. Basic idea:
She grew up in a lord's house as the daughter of the lord and one of the servants. Her identity is known to all but kept hushed. At a young age, she showed strength, courage, and honor. As such she was sent to squire for a paladin. She learned much from him until his untimely death. Now, she seeks to follow in his footsteps, hopefully to do him, and her noble house, honor through her deeds. Her journey brought her to Phandalin. She has heard of the mining and craftsmanship associated with the town and wanted to satisfy her curiosity first hand.
I first thought about going for my prefered class (rangers !), but seeing the nice array of fighting characters, I'll opt for an elven magic user (probably a warlock or a necromancer). That could bounce nicely off Kerrec's character, Connac the rogue. We may even consider making them acquainted (either that, or connected in some other way by a common story arch, maybe my warlock is looking for Connac for her own reasons / has been sent to find him by a higher authority, etc..).
Background: youngest heiress of the ancient elven dynasty of the Pananthyr Court Marshalls, she dishonored her family by absconding with a half-elven huntsman. Now abandoned by her old lover, she wanders the kingdoms in search of answers, to redeem her lost honor and maybe find revenge, or at least what happened to the one who betrayed her trust. She may have found a clue in this small mining town (more details on character sheet)...
Cheers, looking forward to this !

Born with mixed fiendish and celestial blood, Azoth is the only surviving child of the fallen House Vindaen. House Vindaen was once a well known noble house that could trace their ancestry to Mount Cemestia. His great grandfather bound the family to the nine hells to gain power and forbidden knowledge and since then every member of the family has been born a tiefling. After his parents deaths, Azoth was raised by his uncle who was a paladin. He taught Azoth all he could about his ancestry and how to control his magic, but knew from experience that the best way to learn was through experience. And so he suggested the young Azoth go out into the world and find his own path. He carries with him the contract that his Great Grandfather made with the nine helps in hopes of someday breaking it and freeing his family.

I mean, Connak is known for taking trinkets that don't belong to him...
Vaxis is a former priest of Bahamut, called on by his god to undertake a quest in his name. He knows not what this quest is, though he's sure it has to do with that box he opened when he was a child, containing the spirit of a demonic red dragon. The spirit is bound to him and has been since that fateful day. He seeks a way to safely be rid of it without unleashing it on the world. To that end he became a priest of Bahamut, hoping that the spirits mortal enemy would purge it for him, to no avail. The day he was called on by the god himself to right wrongs was his brightest day of hope. If he could earn favor with his god, he could finally be rid of it. His journey took him to Phandalin, where his god has told him to go through his dreams.

Ky is plagued by PTSD, she had a run in with a monster as a hatchling and was sperated from her nest. She has survived this far off the land, helping ward off Mondays that attack travelers in the mountains near Icespire peak. With increasing monster and dragon sightings, she has decided to head to town in order to band with a group to better rid the land of the horrors that infest it.

I have a dwarf (Thromgar Anvilpuncher) wrongfully exiled for a crime he didn't commit. Prison changes a Dwarf, and on the island he was damned to, he established himself as a member of a gang. He now has designs on controlling his own criminal underworld, but you have to start somewhere.
(He is lawful evil, but I plan on him going for the long game and he will be extremely devoted to the party.)
Your starting stats look a little high to be legal standard array or point buy. see character creation requirements up top. Make edits to your character sheet if still interested. Also, no evil toons...sorry, forgot to put that in there, but I will add it now.
Hailing from rugged hills of Wyvern Tor, Rhorog was part of the Grim Tusk tribe, one of the many orc tribes roaming the land. A deadly plague swept his community and seeing this as a good opportunity, the shamans tended to their sick including Rhorog, and nurturing them into Yurtrus' chosen ones.
Not wanting to die, Rhorog prayed to the skies fervently to anyone. A ki-rin heard his incessant pleas and decided to form a pact as its herald. Afterwards, it slaughtered the rest of his tribe so they would not affect his assigned task.
Rhorog immediately left the rugged hills for he may suffer the other orc tribe's fury for what he did. The nearest place he thought no orc could find him was Phandalin.
Sabroth Kelxas was born in a dragonborn village at the base of a large and isolated mountain. His early childhood was average for a young dragonborn, where he learned to hunt at a very young age, scouting with the other children and going on hunting parties twice a week. Adults would constantly mention the Challenge around him and his friends, the village's rite of passage. And it seemed the one thing that was constantly hovering over every child's head at the time.
It was to be taken at the age of eleven with a series of challenges that would determine one's role in the village. and Sabroth wanted nothing more than to be a Hunter like his father and his uncles. Bringing in great food and wealth after every trip. To fail however was to be ostracized from the village, and so Sabroth would train for the Challenge for months once he reached the age of ten. Using his father's wisdom and knowledge to his advantage.
Once the Challenge was upon him however, he passed with flying colours. Three other teens did better than him, but he had the greatest resolve out of all of them. And so when it was time for the village elders to choose what their roles would be, Sabroth was given the role of a Guardian Ranger.
He was crushed. He wasn't going to be a hunter like his father, but assured by his father that the role of Guardian Ranger was only given to those worthy of the village, that it was the greatest sacrifice one could do for their own people. And so, Sabroth gathered his things and left his friends and his village to train with the Ranger, learning all of his secrets of stealth and how to kill and protect, how to use nature to his own advantage and how to track over miles.
Over the years his skills grew and once the Guardian Ranger retired, Sabroth took over for him and rarely ever visited his home. Living off the land and usually trading with a nearby halfling outpost, keeping his village safe from creatures that might try to attack his people; especially dragons and their lesser cousins.
Hearing rumours of a plot to destroy his small village coming from around Phandalin, Sabroth travels to the settlement to investigate the rumours.
As an acolyte in the temple of Torm, Rorik worked hard to serve those around him. He was always putting others first and sacrificing his time, energy, and gold, to help. But one day, while in meditation, he heard a small voice. It told him of a small mountain town of Phandalin. Rorik was chosen to go and live, serve, and if need be protect, the people in this small out of the way mining town. He settled in and took a job as a smith in town, and while in his free time he did what he could to help out those in need around the town.
