I've been playing 5e for about a year and a half now and i"m no stranger to the whole pbp aspect of the game! This is going to be my first attempt at DMing, so any veterans of DMing who're willing to give pointers along the way are more than welcome!
Looking for 4-5 players
Give a reason for how your character knows Gundren Rockseeker in your backstory and any possible motivations your character may have
All WoTC official races and classes allowed. No homebrew and UA will be accepted on a case-by-case basis
Any alignment other than evil
You don't have to fill out a character sheet until the campaign starts
Depending on how many applications come in, I'll be starting the game in a couple of days!
Veteran player, and I've done some DMing here and there, including PbP which is a bit of a different animal as tabletop DMing.
Also shamelessly recycling a character I just made. Fits perfect, and I liked the idea of him.
Name: Peran Windwood Race: Aquatic Half-Elf Class: Storm Magic Sorcerer (will probably dip a level into Fighter first to ensure he can front-line with everyone)
Background: Peran grew up in a village not far from Port Llast, son to one of the few female fishers to ply the seas. She was fair to the eyes, despite, or even because of her muscular build. She raised her boy well, though alone, and even when she got called back to the sea she made sure Peran did not want for anything when she was away. She never told Peran who his father had been, or how she had even come to meet an Elf from under the water, and Peran only asked about him twice, quickly realizing he would not get an answer no matter how often he'd ask.
The blood called him to the seas as well, and as he grew into a man he too sought out a living aboard a ship. Not as a fisherman, but as a deckhand, first, then a regular sailor in time.
It would not last, however. One fateful evening, in the midst of stormy weather not far from Neverwinter, Peran was one of the few on deck to keep watch, when suddenly a Giant appeared out of the rain and sleet battering the ship. It's blue skin camouflaged it well in the storm, and it was upon the unsuspecting ship before an alarm could be raised. Striking down with an almighty blow, the ship stood no chance, Peran caught right on the spot where the Giant struck, his body jarred by crushing pain and stiffened by a electric shock just before he lost consciousness.
He washed ashore further down south. No sign of his crewmates or the ship, he simply made his way to the nearest village of Phandalin, praised the gods for the sack of coins still tied to his belt. There he met with Gundren Rockseeker, keeping the Dwarf company for a few days as Peren worked on getting his equipment back together.
Hi, I'm recycling a character I haven't been able to use yet.
Name: Samori
Race: Human
Class: monk
Backstory/hook: After Samori left the monastery she journeyed to Neverwinter as this was the closest city, despite this she made it with few provisions left and no money. Realising that she would have to find some income for food and shelter and, after talking with a local, was pointed to the offices of Gundren Rockseeker who was seeking guards for a shipment of provisions.
I'm also keen to join this game - using a character I've tried to run in 2 campaigns so far, both of which have come to an early end - so I'm keen to actually get him past level 2!
Name: Grum
Race: Half-Orc
Class: Fighter
Background: The offspring of an Orc father and a Human mother, Grum always found he never really fit in anywhere. As an adolescent, he noticed humans would keep a close eye on him, untrusting of his half-Orc nature. As he grew into adulthood, this distrust deepened, and he found himself no longer welcome in human civilisation, but also not fully accepted among Orcs either.
The tensions that he felt between the two civilisations grew to a head, until one day in a tavern a fight broke out between a human and an orc (neither of which Grum had ever met before), each demanding the other take Grum away with them. Grum decided he'd had enough of both worlds, gathered what little possessions he had, and wandered off into the forests, where he learned to fend for himself - tracking, hunting, hiding where necessary to keep himself alive.
One day he wandered into Giant territory. The Giants caught his scent, and he was nearly captured. Luckily, Grum was able to get away. But he had seen the giants' home, and noted their ability to find themselves food. He decided to stay close by, and for a while lived by stealing and scavenging from the giants, unknown to them. Several months later Grum was almost caught once again.
He was able to slip away, hiding and laying low until the giants gave up the hunt, but he knew the game was up. He could no longer risk the giants' wrath, and returned to civilisation - but not before having learned a thing or two about the giants' patterns, and even some of their language.
On returning to civilisation, Grum wandered from place to place, a lonely vagabond, until he recently came across Gundram Rockseeker. For Gundram, Grum's origins were less of a concern than whether he could get a job done and fulfil a contract. So Grum stuck around, where a reliable source of work and, consequently, food were to be found.
Also keen. I have a character I created some time ago but have not had the chance to use.
Name: Diodato d’Falco
Race: Varient Human
Class: Rogue
Background: Diodato has worked with the city guard for many years. His job has been to try and infiltrate groups and root out dissidents before they are able to act. He is willing to take whatever steps are necessary to maintain the order of the city. Diodato is so passionate about this as his father was killed in front of him by a rebel faction in an attempted coup when he was still young. Fortunately, he and his mum were spared. At the age of 18 he pledged himself to the guard and has since defended to the city from any threats that might arise.
Diodato has recently been put in touch with Gundren Rockseeker because he has information about a bandit group who seem to be growing in power. He hopes that he can use Gundren as cover to get close to them to find out what is happening and try and put an end to them.
Hmmmmm, gonna drop in a bard, cause I haven't gotten to play one in 5e yet.
Name: Sicca if Yuan-To, Sarnle "Snarl" Gemetter
Race: Yuan-Ti (if someone has content sharing) Dwarf if not.
Class: Bard
Background: Charlatan, I kind of want to focus on front story, but I can put in the connections. Either way the character is a starving artist that knows Rockseeker from a few negotiation/information gathering jobs that Gundren asked for.
Background: A child of the streets of Waterdeep, Tangle grew up in the shadows under the iron grip of the cities gang leaders and thugs. As a Tiefling she has been pre-judged her entire life by those she meets. Her dark blue skin could be passed off as darkskin, her silver hair could be dyed or even left natural as a bit of exotic flavor, but her light blue cat eyes have ever been the immediate tell, in addition to the bat wings tied up against her back , both being an easy excuse for persecution her entire life. She's moved from crime boss to crime boss, always proving herself valuable, and offering up an extreme loyalty to those that showed her loyalty and strength in return. But the most recent thug in her life would ultimately fail her tests of loyalty and she would always move on, wether they wanted her to or not.
A year past she'd met a new kind of master. A dark brooding fixer who worked for who he wanted, when he wanted, throughout the city. A warlock whose dark powers drew her to him, whispering to her Tiefling soul. She learned what she could over that year, about how to live a life free of a master, and about the dark powers that fed him, but even this one eventually failed in loyalty and she decided a more drastic change was required. She would leave Waterdeep. She hired on to a wagon train heading north to Neverwinter. She arrived just a couple of weeks back and began scrounging a living off of the cold wind bitten streets. It was only a handful of days later that she caught the eye of Gundram as he walked the streets.
Gundram saw this street rat, her dark soul, but bright soul questing eyes, and saw something others could not. He'd recruited enough mindless thugs to know when he'd found something else, something that, though risky, could be the one random knuckle in the throw that could change a situations outcome, and make all the difference. Sometimes you needed the unpredictable, that undefinable edge, and in her he saw that.
In Gundram eyes, Tangle could see his soul greeting her, with trust and a chance. She followed him with little prompting. Later, as he handed her the battered and worn crossbow and quivers, he said, "Lady luck is with both of us today. We thank Tymora that she's let me find you. You've found your place Tangle." Since then she'd been a constant shadow standing behind him wherever he would go, an almost instantly zealot like loyalty, a situation that seemed as right as rain for the both of them.
Rosella doesn't remember a time when Mykiel wasn't offering her advice or spurring her on to adventure into the world to make it better. The only issue was Mykiel didn't know when to let her rest. He was always looking into the future to see what would happen next while Rosella was trying to make the village she lived in safer. She finally left when she began to have dreams of dangerous powers and events that could possibly end the world. Whether they were from Mykiel or not she never dared asked.
As she finally began to wander the world the way Mykiel wanted, Rosella had an issue of happening across people that need help and taking the job, no matter what she was doing at the time or if she was already helping someone else. She never did anything for herself, happy to help others no matter what the cost was to her. This changed when she uncovered a black bear/panther/wolf (i haven't decided) cub, abandoned by it's mother. Rosella bundled the cub up in her cloak and continued on her way. She never asked Mykiel's advice. She didn't care. If she wasn't allowed to make the choice of where she was to go next, she could make the choice to save a cub. Mykiel never brought it up though, maybe it was just something he didn't care about. She raised the cub herself in the woods where she camped in between towns and other places where she could rest. She named him Wonder and the two of them were inseparable.
Mykiel's most recent dream came in the form of a man and a name. A dwarf named Gundren Rockseeker. And a mine. She didn't quite understand what it meant, but her course was obvious. If Mykiel wanted her to seek him out then who was she to think otherwise. Gundren's offer was an odd one, but who knows. Maybe it will turn out to be more excited than she expected it to be.
Also, is revised ranger allowed? And if it isn't would i be allowed to have a pet black bear/panther/wolf not to use in combat but just as flavor?
Background- Aga like to collect and sell things, anything really, he will pick flowers and take them into towns and try and sell them. He is not the brightest person but people do love him. Gundren Rockseeker has hired Aga a few times as a go-for type person. Aga does not know much of his past, he was raised in the local church and The head priest is the only one that knows of is Changeling blood.
