Finan's eyes go wide."No, don't!" he says quickly, rising to his feet and holding up a hand to tell Falaine to stop, "Last time I touched a shard the entity entered my mind! Krusk made sure I was cleansed, but he's not around anymore now."
He takes a step towards the wall, leaning against it with one hand. "I don't know. Perhaps we should return the shards. I feel it's not in Aiden's interest, and I loathe giving in to a bully, but perhaps you guys are right and it'll bring an end to the devastation of this town. Either way, I'm off to bed for today. We're getting kicked out in the morning, and I intend to get some sleep before then."
With a tired old groan he pushes himself off from the wall and heads out to get back to his room. He hears the patrons in the common room, recognizing this would be an opportunity to make some coin, but he's simply tired and something else occupies his mind. He reaches into his pockets, running his fingers over the figurine, then the stick, and finally the coins. With a grunt he shoulders his door open and uses his foot to close it behind him. He casts a glance at the bed, wishing he could just drop everything and lie down, but with the prospect of the inn closing come morning there's one more thing he needs to do.
He slings his pack around to his front to dig out a fresh candle. With it alight, he fishes the gold coin out of his pocket and uses it to open the secret passageway.
If it opens:
Finan makes his careful way down to the chamber where he first met Aiden. If nobody is there, he decides he will just place the candle on the table and wait until there is just enough of the candle left to make it back to his room. To occupy his mind during the wait, he could maybe take out the figurine and ponder memories past, although he hopes there will just be someone there, waiting for him.
(The candle has a burn time of 1 hour)
If it doesn't/when he returns:
With a grimace Finan blows out the candle. "Fair enough. Come see me if you need to talk to me then." he tells the painting, then drops his pack down next to the bed. He quickly undresses and slides into bed, blissfully relaxing all his tensed muscles and curling up into the warmth and softness of the pillow and sheets.
Tanni's eyes widen as she sees one of these shards suddenly in front of her and instinctively takes a step back. She then gathers herself and clears her throat. "That's one down. Just... keep it out of sight and wrapped up, don't want to risk any more people going crazy." She scratches her chin thoughtfully before continuing, "Maybe when we start hunting these shards, we find out who else is gathering them and why. The bloke we saw in the ally watching the crates had some very expensive armour from a renowned dwarven smithy I know. He or she has probably bought the same kind of equipment for others working for him and that requires a lot of coin." The gnome then stretches her arms and lets out a yawn. "If we're clear on what to do tomorrow, I think I'll hit the hay."
Paren looks at Falaine with curiosity, switching back to common. "Well. It would appear you are not affected in the same way as Finan and I. Interesting." He then looks back at the group. "Thank you all for understanding. I hope this brings a little more trust between us. Now, one question before you all go. This. Or this. Who would you prefer to work with."

"Just do what comes naturally, don't overthink the voice or you'll lose sight of the person behind it... Trust me."She looks at her hands holding the shard briefly, before tucking it away in her pack. "I promise to keep it safe." She'll then head to her room, assuming the library will be there in the morning.
The group slowly parts ways for the evening to return to their rooms. Things look no different today than they have in the past. The dread of the day has been heavy and you soon realize just how tired you've become from the nonstop issues you've worked to solve.
((If there's anything you'd like to do in your room in private, DM me and we'll get you covered.))
Once he hears movement in the hall Paren will leave his room and follow Falaine to a table. "Morning." Once he speaks you can tell he has chosen to go back to his original voice. It is more raspy and harsh than you're used too, more like the lowborn that he has admitted to being.
Paren finds it very odd and almost falls out of the chair he just sat down in. He lets out a curse in elvish. "Is that what I sound like? Might have to reconsider this decision."

Tanni enters the common room as Falaine's still laughing and joins Paren and Falaine on their table. She lays her backpack next to her chair and rubs her eyes with her sleeve. "Morning..." She mumbles and looks quizzically at both of them as she sits down. She then focuses on Falaine and asks, "What's gotten you so jovial this early?"
Falaine will begin retelling a story of a bard friend of hers that got a sore throat before an act and she had to read their lines for them from under the stage. "...but he kicked up so much dust that I sneezed. To this day the whole audience thinks he can sneeze with his eyes open."
Jonathan is thankful that there was no extra shenanigans that happened that evening. Electing to go immediately to bed that night, he decided to stay a little longer in his room, emerging a bit after the others. He seems a little disoriented today, like he had trouble sleeping, bags under his eyes. "Morning..." He grumbles as he looks around, hopeful that they can actually sit down and enjoy some breakfast like civil folk for a change.
The lounge of the Wishing Well is busy with patrons getting their last few bites to eat before heading back home. While no seems to pay particular notice to any of you, you do happen to see some familiar faces among the crowd. The tiefling woman, Sunspot, that had been running the blacksmithing competition is sitting at the bar over a heafty order of eggs and sausage. Sitting next to her a few of you may recognize Master Brewer Bearmar already nearly finished with a giant stein of breakfast ale known for being so heavy that you wouldn't have room for meats or potatoes. Not far from there was an elvan woman dressed in a green cloak that look to be recovering from some injuries. She's being tended to by a small gnome woman who some of you may recognize as the town's healer Talia from Talia's Tonics and Tinkerings.
Renard rushes to your table adding more food to the offerings. The feast is rather bountiful and you assume they're working on pushing out the food so it won't spoil in the back when they close for renovations. Renard brings you all the drinks of your choice before retiring to the back room. Ombre sits on a tall stool behind the bar and is writing into a leather journal.
The soft sound of music can be heard over the drone of conversation. It's a pleasant tune played on a flute that adds a beautiful ambiance to the lounge.
Jonathan is thankful for all the extra food being piled up; finally, some time to actually sit back in a little luxury. He eats all he can, never rushing the food and keeping perfect table manners. However, if anyone tries to disturb him from getting his breakfast, he glances them with a deathly stare, he isn't in the mood of skipping breakfast twice on the trot.
Paren looks around the table at the group. "It's nice to have a meal with friends. It's been years since I've done this. Not to many people want to come out to the woods."

The morning breakfast is rather pleasant given your rushed few days. Nothing seems out of place and all is calm in the lounge of the Wishing Well. The four of you continue your breakfast and find a bit of rest.
Falaine will sample everything that comes to the table. As the breakfast comes to a close and everyone is full and happy she asks. "So, what's the plan for today? I'd like to do some research."
