Captain Blackhand: Smiling sheepishly, Beric mutters, "What can I say? Old pirates and old habits both die hard!" Removing his hat, the pirate bows low and says, "Apologies once again, m'lady." Releasing a hearty laugh, he continues, "Also, taverns be one of my triggers."
Turning suddenly as the crazed old man bursts into the tavern, Beric immediately dismisses him as a lunatic. However, never let a good distraction go to waste, Captain Beric Blackhand always says. With everyone preoccupied with the mad man, the rogue leans across the bar, snapping up the entire bottle of Rum in one fluid motion.
Sleight of Hand(+Guidance): 19 + 2 = 21
Not spilling a drop, the Pirate quickly stows the bottle in his inner jacket pocket for later consumption. Finally, he sits back and ponders what the man says he's seen.
During her conversation with the guard, Hanna turns around and just catches sight of Beric but did not see what he did. She eyes him suspiciously and returns to her conversation
Following the conversation between Hanna and the town guard, he turns to the group and immediately sees Reginald's city guard armor and the Neverwinter crest. "My good man, what has you so far from Neverwinter? If you are looking for work can surely find something to utilize your skills. Eliander Fireborn's the name, I am the captain of our guard force here. I am sorry you had to witness that unfortunate incident. Eustal used to be one of the best deck hands on the Sword Coast, but unfortunately, age has caught up to him, much like the rest of us." He taps his left leg, which rings with the solid knock of wood. "Now he stays down on his luck and works what odd jobs he can. DId any of you see him before he came bursting in here? Maybe running around town acting strange?"
Elias looks at the captain and answers " Captain Fireborn, I have not seen this man before but, we have just arrived in town. May I ask what was Mr. Eustal ranting about undead ? Does Saltmarsh have a problem with undead?

Reginald of Neverwinter:
Standing at attention, Reg addresses the man somewhat formally, "Captain Fireborn, a pleasure to meet you. I am Reginald, on...ah...detached duty from the city guard of Neverwinter, charged with aiding the people of the Sword Coast as need arises. It would be my honor to help you in any way needed." Almost as an afterthought, he answers the man's question, "I have only just arrived in town and come directly to this fine establishment, so no, I haven't seen Eustal before. Perhaps one of his 'odd jobs' became a bit more odd than usual?"

Keric stops scooping stew into is mouth for a moment at the mention of the undead, "From deep beneath the endless water, she speaks -- pull them down beneath the undertow." He pauses for a moment, nods his head, and continues, "If there are undead nearby, we must destroy them." He then goes back to eating his stew.
Reyllnn nods, looking up from her drink. “They’re bad for business, and for the people of this town. That warrants their removal.” She looks to the Captain. “Where did this Eustal say he saw the creatures?”
Captain Fireborn says “He did not say where he saw this oddity. I am going to question him. If you are willing to help in this endeavor, please come to my home tomorrow. It is on the edge of town on the hill overlooking the sea. I can have better information on the situation at that time.”
As this conversation is occurring, you can notice the other patrons of the tavern are becoming very nervous at the mention of undead.
Captain Blackhand: Shaking his head slowly as the others speak, it is clear that Beric is disquieted by all this talk of Undead. The Pirate's mood darkened, his voice low, he quietly asks the most dreaded question of all, "So... this is going to eat into my drinkin' time, isn't it?"
With a sigh, Blackhand resigns himself to his fate and slides dramatically off of his bar stool. He says to the party, "The old nut said "...hells demons done took up in it." Stroking his long black mustache in thought, he continues, "We be lookin' fer a structure, cave, or perhaps..." He pauses a moment, true fear flashing across his face as he stutters, "... or perhaps, a ship?"
Taking a moment to compose himself, he continues, "Far 'nough from town that nobody's seen nothin' yet, but close 'nough that the old coot could run back 'ere." Looking around the tavern expectantly, he asks, "Any of you town folk know of a place nearby he could'a been talkin' about?"

Reginald of Neverwinter
Reginald says a small prayer and looks carefully around the room, his eyes seeking out any undead which may linger here (Divine Sense).
He then turns to the nervous patron Keric was addressing, saying, “I can assure you there are no undead with us here tonight, good sir. Be at ease and answer the man’s question forthrightly.”

Taking a deep swig of his drink and a breath to calm himself, the patron says “I apologize. As far as I am aware, we have no trouble with undead in Saltmarsh. One occasionally makes their way from the Mere of Dead Men swamp, but they are almost always dispatched by the guards traveling along the roads. Eustal has always been fairly level headed so if he saw something, it must be very bad to startle him that much.”

"What are these Undead of which you speak of? There is living and there is dead and no inbetween. I have heard people tell stories about said ghosts but to my understanding... these tall tales are used to try to get a scare out of others. Am I to understand that the city is under siege by stories?"
Keric looks to Shaul, "The undead are neither living nor dead, but corpses animated by dark power. They are a blight, and quite dangerous. Perhaps we should head out and speak to Eustal. You know, get the story for ourselves."
Reg seems somewhat confused by the course of the conversation, as the Captain gave clear instructions for meeting him in the morning. (OOC: limitations of his thinking, not that anyone else is doing something wrong.)
”Captain Fireborn is doing that questioning tonight, right? Not that I’d object to a stroll through the town after dinner, but I expect we won’t know more details until tomorrow morning,” says Reg.
