Sickle will strongly suggest they get started on their journey, perhaps after a short rest (OOC: with a little Hit Dice rolling and Spell Slot recovery for the casters). Looking at the map, it seems a river voyage down the Soshenstar to Camp Vengeance would be the fastest and most efficient way to begin, and would perhaps allow them to rest while they travel.
Barty remained unscathed from the encounter and is ready to go. Indy is back to normal after a treat. Barty begins to get the saddle prepared for the journey.
Seems like the others mostly want to leave, So Kasaaptu will wait to perform her task until the return trip. The odds will be Tairo wont be expecting anything and probably wont even remember her.

Yet another shame piled on the others of the day, having to borrow money.
If that is what the decision is, Kasaaptu will prepare Hamma for the trip. Strapping on the extra gear neatly into the saddle bags and the rain catches and her barrel of water, the main reason she need a pack animal to begin with. It is nice Hamma will be able to provide his own food an drink

Sir Darak Darkhall: The Paladin returns from escorting Taban and greets the party and his Retainers. He listens as the others speak, finally saying, "I agree, a voyage by ship would be safest. However, I doubt we'll find a riverboat large enough to accommodate eleven people, the pack beast, the dog, and her regular crew - that is also departing immediately."
Azaka, Gregory, Boris, and Sedrik have been waiting with the travel supplies just off the main road for a good part of the morning. They're sitting around on the cobbled streets up against a large warehouse. It appears Azaka is playing some sort of dice game with Boris and Sedrik. Gregory lazily watches the game while keeping an eye on the gear. As the group approaches, with a dinosaur in tow, Boris, Sedrik, and Gregory eyes all widen. Though they've seen dinosaurs since they got here, apparently the group having one impresses them.
Sir Darak approaches, "Azaka, we would like to explore the option of going by river to Camp Vengeance, and then overland to Orolunga. I have doubts however that a riverboat can be found that is large enough for our party."
Azaka raises an eyebrow and is about to speak when Sedrik interrupts, "Gosh, what happened to your face Kasey?" he says, pointing at Kasaaptu.
Gregory places his hand on Sedrik's shoulder. When Sedrik looks back at him, Gregory shakes his head, and mouths "later". Then Gregory motions for Azaka to continue.
Azaka continues, "My understanding was that we had a deal. First we go to Firefinger, then I take you to either Mezro, since it's close to there, or cut across west to Camp Vengeance through the jungle. If you'd prefer to pay my normal fee, 5 gold per day, 30 days upfront, then I can take you directly to Camp Vengeance, then on to Orolunga. But if you're asking for my services for free, then I must insist we go to Firefinger first. As for travel by river..." She glances at the dinosaur, "That animal would need a barge. They go for 150gp rental per month, plus 100gp for the captain and his deck hands. Or you could buy one for around 3000 gold. You would still need deck hands to pole. If you leave that animal behind, we could travel by canoe. We would need two, or three for a party our size, and they cost 50gp each, plus paddles at 2 gold each. I'd recommend three paddles per boat. 2 boats we'd squish into. 3 would be more comfortable and have more room for our gear."
As usual, Azaka's tone and temperament is cool, even, and un-emotional.
" That is correct. We are supposed to go to Fire Finger first and battle the Terror-folk. You'll have forgive us, we had a day that felt like it was a whole ten day....besides I think we need to acclimate ourselves to the jungle environment, we are going to be in it for a long time. "Not all those who wander are lost." - J.R.R. Tolkien
The brief conversation occurs as the sweltering heat of the day starting to set in, the moisture bringing sweat beads to bodies to be eagerly soaked in by people's clothing. Sir Darak's armor has been modified by his Sedrik and Boris to be cooler, with his skin pressing against some parts of the chain, with only a thin wisp of cloth underneath to keep hair and skin from being pinched. Meanwhile, most of the rest of the party dons their boots, and in their lighter clothing, pick up their packs, load up the pack-o-saurus Hamma, and Barty's mastiff Indiana, and look to Azaka to lead the way.
Azaka says, "Very well. The Bay narrows to the river Tiryki about a days walk from here. At that point, there's a small village that does barging across the river. We'll do so, then follow the east side of the river south to FireFinger. The east side of the river is a bit safer then the west side anyway. There are numerous tributaries, some swampy areas, and so on that we'll have to go around, but we'll generally try to stay close to the river. If it starts to rain, we'll stop to fill our rain catchers and refill skins and the barrel with water. Let’s leave your cleric abilities to other purposes if we can. If the rain becomes to heavy, we will find a place to hunker down and wait. Traveling through a storm is not a good idea. We'll travel at a reasonable pace until we get near FireFinger and then we'll go more cautiously. Please ensure you apply your bug repellant. Do not drink water from the river, streams, or ponds. Though that is a brave suggestion, I think it is vital that I lead. You should decide your order behind me. Finally, I will point out and warn you of dangers as we go. Oh, and one last thing, when you get up in the morning, make sure you shake your boots out." She winks.
With that, she begins walking, leading the party.Barty and Indiana stay close with Azaka who is the trail blazer. Sir Darak is a short ways behind them, followed by Sickle, Silas, Badger, Gregory, Sedrik, Boris, and finally Kasaaptu and Hamma. The cobbled streets of Tiryki lead to the edge of the jungles. There, a spiked ditch forms a barrier around most of the outlying buildings just before the edge of the wilderness.A path large enough for a wagon has a small dirt pass across the ditch and leads down a wide pathway into the jungle proper.
The group, large, well armed, with a seasoned guide and plenty of equipment, with a trailing dinosaur, will make a tough target. The faint smell of the bug repellent fills the journey, the small clouds of back in the bush generally leaving the group alone. Unlike in the north, where the outlying areas are filled with farms, and slowly merge civilization with wilderness over miles, you are almost immediately in very untamed wilderness. Birds flit through the trees, snakes are spotted hanging from branches, which sends a chill down people’s spines as they start looking up for things scaly and poisonous that could simply drop on them. The flora is many wildly different looking vines, bushes, trees, and fungus. At some point Azaka drops back to Kasaaptu, “I’ll point out some of the different plants when we stop each night. I don’t think I want to slow us down by pointing things out as we go, especially with you at the back. Ok?”
She makes her way back up to the front.
The hot murky air is filled with salt tang and through the gaps in the jungle to your left you see catch glimpses of the beach and inlet water.Several miles across the inlet you see the upper arm of the Chult Peninsula northern tip.Eventually the trail leads closer and closer to the beach until it leads out to the beach proper. The sand slants down sharply into the water, with tree roots poking out all along the edge, as if it’s trying to hold onto the land that’s slipping into the ocean.
The journey continues along the beach, and you occasionally pass small groups or pairs of natives who seem to be just inside the jungle scavenging plants. A group of four canoes, loaded with bags of goods push through the water headed for Port Nyanzaru, one man lazily waving as you pass.
You reach a small creek perhaps 30 feet across of water that is lazily sitting there, fronds floating across it’s surface where the ocean waves slowly lap at them. Azaka climbs down the slight incline and wades into the water. Her eyes scan the water for motion for a few moments as she stands in water up to her thighs. Then she motions the group to cross.Everyone moves into the tepid water and marches across, the water reaches just past your hips, before receding as you move up the far bank. Indiana dog paddles his way across without too much trouble. Azaka follows and resumes the lead as you continue.
Ahead, the beach fades away as a mangrove takes over, the ocean water mixing with a maze of roots and branches. The water is clear and undisturbed, small fish, a snake, crawling things, move around in the water. A large turtle floats just off shore. Azaka turns down a small trail inland, just wide enough for single file, and the group continues. Snakes, frogs, lizards, birds, and sometimes monkeys can be seen moving around the jungle around you as you travel for another hour inland before wading through two more inland waterways surrounded by mangrove. The dinosaur at the back follows obediently, occasionally stopping to pull a large leave or branch off and chew on it.It stops to drink water from a tepid pond at one point.
Around 2pm it starts to rain, a light mist. Azaka looks to the sky, unhappily, then shouts so the whole line of people can hear her. “Mist today. It will take an hour to get much water. We have plenty, so I say we push on. The clerics can bail us out if we get short anyway. The mist will go on for a while, but let’s keep going.” It’s a couple of hours of walking later, the land to the north across the ocean slowly creeping closer and closer. You’ve crossed several more streams, before you arrive at a small fishing village. The mist has finally let up. The people here wear a combination of light clothes or nothing. They have several canoes tied up to a dock in the ocean, and fishing nets hang from poles. Again, a pit with spikes forms a barrier between the village and the jungle. A large barge sits tied as well. Azaka greets a man who walks up to her, and they talk in Chultan. Azaka turns, “They’ll take us all, 1 silver each, plus one for each animal.”
You pay up, and are transported across the water, which has become a wide body of murky tepid water. It doesn’t seem to flow anywhere and just sits, spinning slowly in some spots, it’s edges filled with fronds and grass.
On the far side of the river the barge and a couple of canoes drop everyone off at small muddy landing.Azaka and the man exchange a few more words, with much gesturing down the river.
Azaka says to the party, “Let’s keep going for another hour. The man says that the river has been high. The land near the river changes a lot unfortunately, and we’ll probably need to go a couple miles inland frequently to pass deeper water and find a place to cross. The undead activity has been quiet the past couple of weeks. Hopefully we’ll be in luck.”
The group continues, now making their own trail as they bushwack south along the eastern edge of the river. At one point Azaka ends up hacking her way through some thick bush and the progress slows to a halt. You stand in a rough line, in a narrow corridor cut through bush.Azaka offers for Sir Darak to take over and he takes to cleaving a way forward.
Sickle, you hear the brush move to your left, but you can’t see more than a couple feet through the thick greenery. You see it move though, and the leaves seem pushed aside enough to reveal a large thick green stalk of a plant that is maybe six feet high. Out of it’s top are three colorful flowers. One is yellow, one is orange, and one is red. You seem puzzled about what moved the bushes out of the way for you to be able to see this plant for a moment. It seems to be confusing your brain, but then the plant itself moves two feet towards you, pushing away the brush, and the bright orange blossom “coughs” at you, sending a puff of pollen around you.
Roll Con Save.
