My idea is this. One adventure locale (the walled city of Dhun Crowe) that various DMs can use as a home base, open to any kind of 5e D&D character (having a character sheet entered in and linked will make it easy for people to reference without having to dump long introductory posts). Some colorful names of different places all around we can share but lots of empty space to make our own things.
People who want to make characters and go in. Anyone who's interesting in running a game can have some NPCs show up and pull together a group of interested players. You play for as long as the group wants or until it breaks apart. Other groups periodically form and adventure. No sign ups required, just jump in and see if there's anyone around looking to run something--if not, and there's folks around looking to play, then run something!
That's the idea anyway. Have fun with it. We'll see what happens.
In the last days of the Old Empires, the region around Dhun Crow was a mysterious and volatile borderland surrounded by danger and held together by only the most tenuous of alliances. Here not only did humans live shoulder to shoulder with halflings, elves and dwarves--all within the same walls, but shared the city with far stranger folk. Dragonborn and tieflings walked openly in the streets. Gnomes, a race who had not been seen in an age, sat in conversation with half orcs at meals in local taverns. Goliaths scale buildings and leap from rooftop to rooftop to avoid having to push through crowded narrow streets.
The tenuous politics that held all these races together just became more tense with refugees from the north, spilling from what were the heart of civilization, but are now unlivable ruins, the abode of the single greatest monster to ever walk the world. It's footsteps shake the Farpikes. Finally at long last a wall has been erected which has held--the celebrated Girts Gates, themselves a miniature kingdom.
Many of these newcomers have brought a new way of life to the lands Dhun Crowe--the unsettled life of adventurers on the move. They have had to be adaptable and ingenious, learn to solve their own problems with swords, spells or stealth and trust more in offers of gold (the standard coin of the adventuring life, representing a days food and lodging on the road) than in oaths of loyalty by any crown. To the old guard from the Empires, these adventurers were a blight and seen as parasites. To the folk of Dhun Crowe, they are seen as heroes!
Anyone who's interested, let me know and I'll add you to the Campaign! But it's not necessary. Just go play! I sort of envision this as a diceless narrative game that's mostly about the back and forth of describing what you want to do and the DM saying what happens--but if you guys want to do dice it seems like they have stuff to make that happen. If you want to go all in with maps and minis and whatnot, it's pretty easy to add images. Just snap photos of a map with some tokens or minis or whatever and you're good.

Dhun Crowe is not a pretty city. Its outer walls do not beam magnificently, rather they are rough-hewn and practical with layers of patchwork from numerous repairs made with little concern about matching the style of older construction. The streets are a confusing maze and the buildings are all very similar, an effect designed to disorient and break apart an invading force and then funnel them to various open squares where they may be dispatched by archers and wizards. The streets are neatly paved in stone and rigged with traps that can be activated from guard stations with the proper key. Everything from the design of the rooftops to the slope of the walls, to the narrow windows is designed to survive a siege.
For the most part this is paranoia. Despite the hostility of the largely unknown lands that surround Dhun Crowe, the city hasn't been attacked for years--nor ever attacked with the kind of discipline to overcome its defenses. The biggest change of late has been a rush of construction authorized by the city government to raise barracks-style housing to lodge the flood of refugees, to give them a clean dry place to live so as to lessen the danger of disease. An entire district is covered in scaffolding and littered with masonry as the project churns along.
There is a single large temple that honors all the gods. It could be mistaken for a second keep and serves a secondary purpose as a storehouse for emergency provisions. There are seven gods, worshipped the world over, but nowhere else are they worshipped under one roof.
Stotner [STOT-ner] is the originally dwarven god of knowledge.
Liliat [Lill-ee-AT] is the goddess of life who humans believe is their mother who created the world.
Homsey [Hawm-ZEE] is the halflings' comforting god of light and ward against fearsome night.
Ygrom [IH-grom] represents nature and the druids and monstrous humanoids that bear the features of animals--including the inscrutible dragonborn.
Roil [ROYL] is the great elemental lord of tempest and the father of all genasi.
Niere [NIE-ear] is the seductive elven goddess of trickery who other races seldom seem to comprehend.
Traedus [TRAY-duss] is the noble orc god of war before the race fell to darkness, but has been remembered by the half-orcs.
There are, of course, any number of taverns--though of late the function of these has changed from temporary lodgings to a bustling center for adventuring life. This change has taken many of the townfolk by surprise to a degree where often locals come in and buy a few drinks just to watch adventurers in their elaborate costumes and weaponry. At times the very proprietors of these establishments seem not to understand the change and seem amazed at the boost in their business, seemingly from nowhere--other savvier individuals have become quick to introduce adventurer-friendly side businesses: blacksmiths, provisioners, gambling, fighting pits and the like.
The map reflects the far southern borderlands of what normally would be the down in the bottom fringe of the world map of any other setting. It's the monster-filled frontier that nobody wanted. Unfortunately the Old Empire at the north end of the map has fallen victim to some monstrous calamity (it's the Tarrasque) and is in ruins--as are the various racial territores, all of which are hemorrhaging refugees through the Girts Gates as quickly as they can manage. This has been going on for a while now and the adventuring culture has grown out of it.
The idea of races living together in Dhun Crowe was considered madness up until people had nowhere else to go. Now its where everyone is trying to get. Housing is going up as fast as they can. Farmers in the Clutching are freaking out a little about the new taxes in produce they're being asked for in order to keep up with the needs of hungry refugees, but are happy the military is getting more serious about keeping their homesteads safe.
But mostly there's this new adventurer spirit. Adventurers are showing up for the first time ever and unlike how they were treated in the Old Empire, the folk of Dhun Crowe are in love. Tons of new folks are taking up the lifestyle and spreading through the wilderness poking into every cave and crumbling ruin looking for gold and monsters to slay. As a reaction to this, the government has responded by offering bounties on almost every kind of dangerous monster--so even if all these guys find are some giant spiders, they still earn something for the risks they take, enough to encourage them to head back out.
Anyway let me know if you have any more questions and write up a character. I'd be interested to see what you come up with.
What level would we be starting at? I'm brand new here and have been messing around with the character creation a bit. I have a first draft of a Goliath Barbarian, but if this is to be a bit more rules light, I think I have a feel for how to RP him.
Those Farpikes look like a nice distant and rugged mountain range to hail from.
This is really cool! I am actually doing a similar thing with a couple of other people over on Discord, so I am definately interested in this! :D Are we sticking to official WoTc books such as Volo's, PHB etc or will UA's and homebrews be allowed?

Backstory
I grew up in a traveling carnival of sorts, with a mix of Halflings, Humans, Elfs and Half-Orcs; because of this I've made friends in villages, towns and cities all over. Only my mother is alive, my father died in when I was young, in an death defying acrobatic stunt. I have two brothers, both older than me. My mother's name is Merry (her maiden name was AppleBlossom), my oldest brother's name is Dragon and the other's name is Wand. Wand was adopted and is a Half-Orc. Wand is the carnival's strongman. Dragon was always pretty good with magic and performs lots of illusions for our show. Mom is an organizer and choreographs the show. Mom (69 years older than me) is close to 90 years in age, Dragon is around 40 (19 years older than me) and Wand is 25(4 years older than me). I'm one of the dancers/acrobats for the show, but lately I've felt the need for more lucrative work. Dragon always seems to know where I'm at along with some of the other mages, they always let me know where to find them, when my curiosity gets the better of me and I wander off to explore fancy places. At the age of 18 I murdered the leader of a rival carnival for threatening my family and friends. I deeply regret it but it's my horrible secret and I've never told anyone. Nobody saw me do it. I have a few shall we say friends with benefits, but nothing very serious.

Okay. Color me intrigued. I might be in.
Is the map you posted for a single country? Are there any national borders, or is the region too wild for such political structures?
And any particular racial territories? Dwarves hailing from pikes, elves from the woelds, and so on?
