The group looks over where the tracks lead but this rocky terrain is not something any have had extensive experience with. They knew some of the signs to look for, such as disturbed moss and lichen but the whole area appeared to have been disturbed recently.
"Hmm." Jilrana muses, tapping a finger to her lips as she considers the situation. "We have many days left, how about we do a large sweep of the area ahead as we move forward?"
Elisha nods at Jilrana and says: "I agree but if we are dealing with 'nocturnal' creatures we also need to look for a defensible place to take our nightly rest."
The group decides to split it's attention between observing the grounds where the trail went cold and searching for more tracks and finding the possible location of a place to rest. As they moved about there was no discernible tacks that they could find. The only clue was the small mountain. They could trek closer but doing so put them out into the open more. As between the forest line and the mountain, there was no trees, only rocky path. Along the forest line, there are several spots that could make suitable camp sites. One fairly close to the tail the others getting further away.
Jilrana agrees, letting Nadariel lead the group to a place a bit further away from the trail. She works hard at doing her part of setting up camp, and when they are done she sits down on a large stone with a satisfied grunt. Eyes closed, she starts kneading her calf, a smile playing across her lips, enjoying the small pains that came when trekking long distances. The strangeness of being actual soldiers has started to fade a bit, and she enjoyed the methodical efforts the group had taken today to figure out their next plan of action.
Elisha sits down by Jilrana and asks: "If these are nocturnal creatures we are dealing with would it be better to rest during the day and try to spy on them at night? That is if we can find where they are based at."
"Perhaps. Then again they will be easier to find if we look for them during the day, they will we resting in one spot, and we would not be hampered by the dark. As soon as we find them, then yes, we should switch to night shifts."
The day wares and daylight begins to fade. Still the party had no luck in picking up the trail in the rubble. They did however find a decent place to camp at the edge of a forest roughly 300 feet from where the trail ended. There was brush there that obscured their presence but could be adjusted just right to afford a view to where the trail had ended. That evening, the group remained alert. A nervous tension remained in air that evening.
A full moon rose in the sky cutting an eerie backdrop against the small mountain. At the start of the night nothing caught your eyes. Then, later on, after the moon had rose higher, the glint of tiny specks of light could be seen. A glint not unlike the reflection of light off of metal or glass. Several of them moved across the ground, slowly towards the mountain slope.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
After an evening well spent, Dor settled into Guard duty. He mulled over the day and thought lightly at the beginning. Admittedly, staring into the woods became dull, almost boring, in its current silence. As the hours passed however, his mind began to race as he sat, and it made him anxious. A quick flash, and he had to honestly consider that he may be imagining things in the dark.
Not sure of what he may, or may not, have seen:
Perception: 12
If he is extremely certain he saw something, he will let others know.
Survival: 10
survival: 9
If you add them all up that is a 37 for survival 😋

„I agree, should i stick to search for tracks ( 16) and you all keep an eye open for danger?“
Elisha nods at Jilrana and says: "I agree but if we are dealing with 'nocturnal' creatures we also need to look for a defensible place to take our nightly rest."
„W.we still got plenty of daylight left at the moment, but i agree, w.we need to keep an eye open for a g.good resting spot.
His efforts in vain (based on his survival roll) Dor opts to throw in a suggestion,
"Perhaps some of us should focus on following the trail, while others search for a place to stay?"
He mulls it over and, happy with his suggestion, he continues to look about.

„I w.would prefer a bit of distance b.between us and whoever got the Goblins...“

While we set up camp, Nadariel would have used his caltrops (4x) and strings and bells (3x) to secure the camp.

Jilrana points out the points of light glinting off on the mountainside. She nudges those that had dozed off, or were starting to.
"Look, up there, could be them. Do we pack up and investigate? Forced march through the night? Not like we haven't done those before, have we?"

Just to remind you 300 feet from where the trail ended is about a football fields length away so you're not terribly far from.
