Just as the large goblinoid turns around to face the attackers, Boofa deftly moves in and delivers an ax strike to his neck. With little resistance the head is released from the body and 10 yards away it falls with a sickening plop. The body stands a few seconds longer and then crumples to the ground with no will to keep it stand. As your eyes drift from the dead body to the three sleeping creatures, you notice how small they are in comparison. That, and that the three are resting upon the dead boar half dressed. It's guts partially pulled out and the three small goblins resting within it's bloody gore.
Moving his shield up to his forearm, Dor grabs his spear in both hands placing his left boot near the boar and his right back in an execution stance. He then looks to Nadariel motioning whether sleep would be enough or if more is needed.
His eyes show that he has no qualms against killing sleeping opponents. His demeanor, however, shows that he is a solider on a mission, not a thoughtless murderer. He wants to do what needs to be done, as easily as possible, and nothing more.
Thanks, totally forgot someone had casted faerie fire
"I know it may seem wrong to kill these at a time like this. But if we let them loose, they'll only cause more trouble to the villages and cities in which our families, friends, and people live. Anyone want to do the honors?"
OOC: If no one wants to, Boofa will reluctantly kill the others (unless you think we should question them)
„They don't seam like fighters to me, more like refugees. I think we should question them. I got a feeling there is more to them then meets the eye. And our orders are to solve the problem, not to kill it.“
"Our orders were specifically 'eliminate small groups'" Jilrana says, although she too shows signs of being uncomfortable with the feeling of executing these small Goblins. Still, despite her inner turmoil, she steps up and points her crossbow at the forehead of the one not covered by Dor and Boofa. She closes her eyes, takes a deep breath, and through gritted teeth says, "Do it.", before pressing the trigger.
Boofa takes a small rag from his satchel and wipes the blood from his greataxe. It's a tough business, but Boofa does what he believes is the right thing. He still can't shake the feeling of killing another creature, especially one so vulnerable.
With a breathe in , Dor's thrusts his spearhead into the back of the nearest goblin's skull. The death is instant, the body not even twitching from the positioning of the strike as the spear is removed.
Dor lets his breath out, and follows Boofa in cleaning his weapon. His eyes don't leave his spear with intense focus.
You may hear a small sight of regret from Nadariel.
“K.keep an eye open please, there m.may be more around.“
Nadariel starts to search the corpses for any kind of clues, before he takes his dagger and cuts some nice pieces of meat from the Boar. If any of the goblins had some leather, he will take a small bit of that too. While he is bussy cuting the meat he asks no one in particular: “Sshould we b.burry the corpse, or maybe burn them?“
Dor looks up from rubbing his Reliquary, his spear cleaned and prayers said,
"In the thick of this forest, it might not be good to start a fire. Maybe..." *he trails off*
Dor looks as if he wants to say more, maybe to second a burial, but he looks at back the bodies, and then the treeline, before continuing
"We should keep moving till we can prepare a defense. We can take the bodies with us and deal with them later but something might have seen that."
He rubs his Reliquary again, and looks around at the trees somewhat nervous. He doesn't regret the killing, but he's definitely not a fan of being surrounded by angered enemies he can't see.
Jilrana moves her foot across the soil in an effort to determine how difficult it would be to dig a hole large and deep enough for all the Goblin bodies. "I did bring a shovel, and we can do a quick perimeter sweep for danger. I'm not sure how easy it would be to dig a hole here, though."
Realizing she was distracting herself from her feelings, she glances up at the Goblin at her feet, bolt still stuck in its forehead. She considers it for a moment, then shakes her head, not wanting to defile the body any further. Instead, she moves to the larger Goblin to see if that bolt has survived the impact.
Mechanics:
I feel you mentioned we can recover half of the ammunition fired? Rounded up or down? If I'm confusing this with another game, here's an Investigation for it: 11
And I'm not sure what to roll for inspecting the soil, maybe Survival? 17
The group of goblinoids are fully dealt with. There bodies now still and quiet, lifeless after the efficent strikes. Nadariel searches the bodies and finds rough knives that the three goblins had been using to badly field dress the boar. They wear simple tattered clothing that seems to have been cut, tied or otherwise altered from average humanoid sizes. Looking at the boar, much of the insides are ruined for civilized consumption, the bladder, stomach and intestines all pierced and spilled inside. He is however the outer muscle is still in prime condition and hes able to get prime cuts from the legs and haunches.
Jilrana moves to retrieve her bolt but finds it unusable after it hit the shoulder blade and deflected down into its body. Her investigation though shows that this larger goblin is not really a goblin. It's a hobgoblin. She recalls they are similar but hobgoblins tend to be larger, smarter, tougher, more organized and have a military like civilization. They tend to bully those weaker and enslave other races if they can.
The investigation of the ground proves they could dig with relative ease. However it's likely they would hit roots with as thick the forest is and the age of the trees suggest some decent size roots.
"I have a.an idea, let's make it look like a s.struggel. B.burn some trees, shoot a few arrows into them a.and use the boars blood to leave a.a track. Then we set up an a.ambush. Roast the meat and use some bandages to make us look injured. But this time it would be nice to keep one or two a.alive for information."
Spreading the corpses and useing the Goblins daggers to add some injuries to the other goblins and making sure it looks like they had a fighting chance. Also covering some of our tracks to make our numbers look smaller.
I also have two empty flasks, i can fill one with blood to leave a false trail.
What should i roll? Medicin, survival or deception?
Elisha will say: "A wise man once said - a buzzard got to eat the same as worms. It's my opinion we leave them where they lay-no use wearing ourselves out trying to hide them. I think we need to move on and continue to scout. We followed orders by taking a small group out but, if we run into more hobgoblins I did requisition a set of manacles from the supply room if we want to take a prisoner.
Nadariel and Dor pool their efforts in looking for the goblinoid tracks and cover their own. After a short bit of time they are able to hide some of theirs and do find the tracks. The goblinoids had made no effort to be subtle while chasing down the boar. The tracks lead deeper into the forest where they come upon the area where they had laid in wait for any wild game to pass. A few minutes more, they both are able to find tracks again leading deeper into forest. By this time it is reaching into midday.
Boofa will move stealthily to the larger, in charge goblin, and jump out with his greataxe:
To hit: 12
Damage: 15
And advantage on the attack due to fairie fire 17
