Scott Siegel was the kind of student who defined "brilliant, but lazy." Never motivated to try to learn the things asked of him in class rather than whatever caught his fancy, Scott graduated high school as a solid C student, and moved into a retail career after considering but rejecting the idea of going to college. He bounced from job to job, eventually ending up with a company who set up pop-up seasonal shops. During a Halloween run, Scott worked the register in an empty space in a strip mall; not being local, he knew little about the claims that the space was once a site of secret occult works. Scott's regular use of fake "magic spells" as part of his customer thank yous accidentally set off this eldritch energy, and suffused him with appropriate, if ironic, supernatural powers. Now, the man who sells costumes is powered by them, able to take on the abilities of whatever costume he wears, based on the degree to which those around him accept the costume as legitimate. With the proper wardrobe, Scott can be the most skilled man at the universe...as long as he only does one skill at a time.
I like the looks of this and I'd be interested in joining, but my main questions before coming up with a char are:
1. What kind of world is this like per-say? I'm assuming it's based off of a sort-of real-life world, but how much, like, what is your take on it? Is it more fantasy, or more classic super hero? (This is mainly for race and background)
2. Do our characters have to be strictly Super Heroes, or can they have their own agenda?
Thanks!

So far this session I have hit my teammates twice, flat-out missed 3 times, and only hit the enemy twice. Trust me, you don't want to borrow my dice.
As a child, Joseph was always the biggest kid in the grade, but never the most athletic. He preferred to focus on learning and his studies instead of sports, although he did play sometimes. Once he got into high school, this landed him in a lot of trouble with the Jocks, who harassed him daily. That is until he accidentally smashed one through a locker and the wall behind it in a sudden fit of pure rage, and landing the kid in the hospital for months. Nobody messed with him after that, and as he continued his studies, he secretly worked on training his body, realising the potential inside of him. Currently he spends his days working on his Masters degree in Biology, while at night he helps protect his city.
Born on the fast lane, lives on the slow lane, welcome aboard: The Red Lane. One night, travelling through the woods, Chris came across a burning red longsword that, strangely enough, wasn't burning anything around it. Once he picked it up, the fire surged within him, and since then, he has been unable to let go of the blade. Ever since that night, he's taken to the streets, using this newfound power for good as, well, he can't really have a normal life anymore.
This sounds like something fresh and different. Let's give this a try.
Name: Jade Fire (Sarah Huntington)
Race: Kalashtar
Gender: Female
Sarah Huntington believed she was a typical young woman. It did not seem strange to her at all that her parents moved towns regularly. Starting a new school was just what you did in the middle of the year. She had learnt quickly how to insert herself into a group and make herself welcome, without ever really developing meaningful relationships. People seemed to trust her without ever really coming to know who she was.
After her graduation, Sarah started looking for jobs to help her family and started talking to her mother about moving out on her own. This was a conversation her mother would shut down very quickly. She was even reluctant to allow Sarah to work at the local market. Sarah returned home late from work one evening to find the door to the house open, but all the lights off in the house. She entered to find both of her parents on the floor covered in blood. Her mum had been shot in the kitchen in the back of the head. Her dad she found halfway down the stairs, shot in the stomach. As Sarah reached him he raised his head to her weakly and said, "We should never have taken you." He then collapsed and his eyes went blank.
When the police arrived, Sarah was sitting on the stairs with her father head in her lap, quietly talking to herself as she held him. The next 2 years, she was the resident of an institution. Slowly she recovered from her shock and learnt to deal with the grief. Eventually, doctors cleared her, believing she was ready to return to society and capable of looking after herself. To deal with the pain, she started to disassociate herself from her past, calling herself Jade Fire. A name that gave her strength. What they did not know was that from the night of her parents' death, she had been visited each night by her Quori, who had consoled her, taught her to stand up for herself and guided her through her challenges. From the time she first met her Quori she was reminded of her father. She knew it couldn't be true, he was dead, but she couldn't shake the feeling. Whatever it truly was, knowing that the Quori was with her gave her strength, she just didn't realise how much...
Welcome heros! This is hero home base here you all can rest get mission request and talk to other heros. But i must warn you all heros have been going missing and we dont know why. For your first assignment Tide waits by the pier.
Sarah walks along the pier. trying to distract herself from her thoughts. She had been out for three weeks now and was still trying to find a job. The half-way house was fine. The people there tended to stick to themself, except the onsite psychiatrist. He was just nosey. "How are you feeling? You haven't found a job yet, what does that make you feel? What did you dream last night? Do you have any memories yet of that night?" Questions. Always questions that she didn't want to answer. At least on the pier, she could lose herself in the waves and the bird calls. No one would notice her out here.
You hear a huge crash. A small crateris now infront of the peir. Out of it climbs a man clad in blue face protected by a blue mask. Blue dust like particles hovered around his hands. He pushed off the ground and flew towards another figure in the sky. You look towards tge crater to see 2 more figures trying to join the fight. (Congrats you saw your first hero. Vist keeper at hq to hear any backstory of the heros you meet)
The crash made Sarah jump. Behind her, just off the pier, she watched the man in blue climbing out of the crater. Sarah scrambled down off the pier and over to him as quickly as she could. “HEY!! Mister! Are you ok?”
As she ran toward the figure she saw to others fighting and she stopped dead in her tracks.
The crash startles Joseph, who then quickly turns toward the source of the sound. He sees the figures fighting and curses silently under his breath "Can't I ever get a single quiet night these days?"
(btw, when do we roll our hero traits and all? I've been waiting to make a character until I have than info
