Barnabus sighs and looks away, muttering something to himself. Frowning, he then glances to Alys to see if she might've glimpsed something. Seeing nothing however to suggest as much, he bows his head with another sigh. "Okay, honestly I should've expected that one.... Hmm.... last one fer ya friend, and then we'll get outta yer hair." He again makes a show of clearing his throat, and straightening up in his seat. "What's the last thing you remembered seeing from the island? Besides beaches, trees, landscape, and so on."As he spoke, he subtly ready a Calm Emotions spell.

Jarrus grows visibly frightened as he tries to answer your final question. "Monsters...Monsters!" He's shaking like the hospital has been caught in an earthquake and he's about to cry. You don't need to be a professional psychologist to know that recalling this incident has driven the man hysterical. If you do not act soon, the acolytes will find out what you're doing to Jarrus.
Alys: As this happens to Jarrus, you see inside his mind and get a first person view of people being torn apart by monsters that appear to be made of shadow and bone and undead flesh. The images flash by quick, but just enough for your mind to comprehend the horror of what he experienced. The last thing you see before he completely goes hysterical is a pair of glowing red eyes staring at you.

Jarrus does not resist the spell, as he is in no state of mind to fight back. His hysteria ends before any acolytes notice. As you and Alys exit the room, Vastra notices that she looks sick. "Alys, what happened while you were in there? You look unwell." While she waits for your response, Vastra gestures for everyone to give Alys some room to breathe. Or vomit without getting all over someone.

Alys still looks pale and sick, but as she distances herself from the hospital, it doesn't seem like she's going to vomit. "I saw terrible things. People being torn apart in a dark temple by creatures made out of shadow and bone. It was only flashes, but that was all it took for me to see how horrible it was." She allows Barnabus to peer through her mind and get the images before going through her pack and pulling out her pipe and leaf. Her hands shake as she tries to take a little bit of the herb and stuff it in the pipe. "Let me, darling." The divination wizard would abruptly cut B out of her mind before it wonders away from Jarrus’ memories to her own.
Alys would take a long deep haul, hold it and blow it up in a large smoke cloud above her. Her eyes would water a little as she’d hold back some coughs before taking another hit. After some additional silence, she’d finally speak up, “Those eyes...” She’d be staring off blankly into the distance, as if looking through Vaastra instead of at her. This felt like more than just a vision to her. She felt his fear... the horror... the intensity of his trauma... madness... this divination power is more than just seeing...
The wizard would look to her free hand and flex it. She’d open and close it to reflect on how she feels right now, in this moment, in her reality. She can’t shake the feeling that there’s something she missed. Yes, witnessing the gore in his memory would be horrifying... but that’s not what sent the chills down her spine.
Mom... Flash backs fade in and out of Aly’s mind, replaying her last memories of her, from when she left to when she discovered her body.
One last hit, “Let’s go.” Alys would take strides with purpose, not wanting to hold up the mission any further.
After the rather unsettling encounter at the asylum, you make a quick stop to the markets to get the supplies so that Alys can whip up some holy water. Then you return to the office of the Bountiful Venture company, where Rufus is waiting for you. "Ah, so you're all ready to go. Come, I'll take you to the docks." He leads you to the docks, where a ship is moored with the gangplank down. "That right there is the Dancing Queen. She'll take you to Chaute Island, it's about a five day journey from here, provided that the weather is good like it has been." He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a map. "The explorers were able to create a map of the island before they perished. Follow this and you'll get to the temple with no problems. Good luck and may the gods watch over your journey." You all board the ship and set sail for Chaute Island, with the city and eventually the entire continent shrinking as you go further and further from the land. Eventually it shrinks to a small dot at the edge of your view before completely disappearing over the horizon.
The view of the ocean is beautiful, with crystal clear blue waters. You're able to see all sorts of fish swimming below the surface, and maybe even a mermaid or two. Vastra stands near the edge of the ship, trying to catch sight of a mermaid so that she can write about it in her book. "Absolutely fascinating." She says to whoever is around to listen. "I wish that I had some method of being able to breathe underwater, to communicate with these people and see their societies." As Rufus said, the weather is clear as you sail to Chaute Island and you are not assailed as you make your journey to the island.

Alys would retreat to her cabin almost immediately. She’d methodically lay out some of her possessions on the bed, side by side: Her fathers Holy Symbol, his journal and a wooden box; her spellbook, arcane focus and dagger she inherited from her dead mothers corpse; and her current journal with her notes and sketches. The blonde would lift the lid of the wooden box to reveal two separate pieces of parchment that she’s mended together, half of is heavily stained in blood.
Nariaki was right, and she knew that. “Studying and practicing the art of divination I’ve armed myself with the understanding that this path could take me down the road to madness. Though, no matter how much you arm yourself with knowledge, it doesn’t prepare you 100% for when you’re experiencing it. No matter how much one tries to prepare, involuntary emotions and completely unpredictable reactions get thrown into the mix when one begins to believe it’s personal...“
Alys would unfold the parchment, sprawling it out before her. She’d place her fathers Symbol on one corner to hold it down, then her mothers Arcane Focus on the other. She’d trace her fingers along the stained page.
“Nariaki. I’ve dreamt of the day I’d be part of, something, such as a grand adventure, discovering a long lost city or civilization... to find what they were searching for... I chased that dream only to find my mothers grave...
Perhaps I’m being narcissistic and overly hopeful to think that these events unfolding at the Chaute could be related in any way...”
Her sensitivities and reactions felt more like a defence mechanism from the emotions she’s refused to process since that final expedition.

Furlong, aged as he may be, has not seen enough of the world, nor has had much leisure time to spend learning of things that weren't immediately pressing. Thus, the descriptions of these monsters rang no bells for him, nor gave him any alarm beyond the usual feelings of concern as he and his companions head into another fight. However, what his years haven't brought in encyclopedic knowledge, they have trained him deeply in knowledge of the soul. And he knew from watching the young Alys during these past few days, that there was more worrying her than just the visions from Jarrus' memory.
During one of the evenings spent on the boat, Furlong will pass a note under her door, simply written and in clean cursive.
