When you get to the job board the only quest not crossed off is the easy one. ( for some reason)
Luckily it's only shy of an hour walk out of town because it has gotten dark already by the time you get to the job board, there is only a sliver of moon so you will want lighting of some sort if you cant see in the dark well. You are both pumped and eager to get going. You can always make a camp after the warning or maybe the lady of the windmill will invite you brave gentlemen in for some pie and a roof over your head. You feel it will be the best and easiest 25gp you have ever earned
The darkness settles quickly this high in the mountains. The air is crisp and cold. The Autumn was swallowed early by father winter's beard several weeks prior and you huddle in front of the fire keeping warm and waiting for the strangely stoic hobgoblin to return from gathering game. You talk amongst yourselves and notice someone is missing. You call out for Trygg, the little deep gnome that was so helpful early on. He didnt say a word when he left and you all hope he got where he was going safely. You speculate the coming journey was going to be too difficult for him, and ponder if you yourselves will be up to the task. You realise good company can make all the difference between disaster and success somyou work on creating new bonds with strangers you will now call friends
"Can you believe getting paid twenty five gold pieces just to bring nice old woman back into town?" Skip would say as he pulls out his long slender silver spoon and casts {spell]light[/spell]. When the tip of the spoon begins to glow, he would smile. "That's better! Seems like the darkness managed to sneak up on us a bit... no matter... Let me know if ya get hungry! Ya know why my parents named me Skip right?.. Because I never SKIP a meal!" He would say with a hardy laugh as he slaps his belly through his thick leather apron.
Jaeson laughs along, his spirits slightly on the rise in Skip's addictive presence. "Oh man. This will definitely get me back on my feet! And it'll get you some gold to pay you back for your kindness, as well." He walked side by side with the Halfling, trying to bury his turmoil for the time being and focus on the task at hand. "This almost seems to good to be true, ya know? I mean, twenty five gold just for this? I mean...Ah, no use overthinking it. What say we get a nice meal going after this job is done? After that, some drinks! My treat!"
Acting on information brought to him from the lodge, Daishi makes his way through the woods in search of a half-elf and an elf that are supposed to be near. The only name he has been given is Anyll, but besides that the description was scant. He walks in the clear, giving himself the best lines of sight to find these two.
Are those tracks? He peers at half obscured footprints and continues onward. There's a smell of soot in his nostrils, and pine. He grips his shield with some tension, and leaves his sword in its sheath with a moment's hesitation. I hope Veran, Harir, and Gawain are safe at the lodge. We're burned, they said. How long do we have before we're found. And how do these two elves fit in? Unrelated I hope, maybe a way out.
The halfling would turn at the sound of the instrument before letting out a gasp as the figure appeared behind him. "Hey now! This is my lucky spoon! It was given to me by someone very special I ran into on a road a lot like this one years ago." Skip would say with a grin as he wiped his brow with the back of his free hand. "And how about ya when a guy before poppin up next to then like that next time.. about made me lose my diner.. amd not out the way it went in if ya catch my meaning..." The halfling would finish with a chuckle before continuing down the road with his glowing spoon stretched out in front of him. "I don't mind if ya take along... My names Skip amd this is Jaeson. We were hoping to earn a little coin to get him back on his feet. The poor lad has had a rough time as late" the small halfling would say as he reached up and gave the Jaeson a pat on the lower back since his shoulder was out of reach.
"Well, how about a deal? You draw a card and if it's higher that what I draw I'll come with you free of charge. BUT, if my card is higher than yours, I get a measly 5 gold of the pay."

"Sure! Sounds good to me." Skip would say as he grabs a card from the top of the deck with his free hand. He would keep his other hand still grasping his glowing spoon...
7 (I just rolled a flat d20)
"Help me to pick a good one" Skip would say with his eyes closed as he cast guidance before looking to the card...
(ooc: Adding 1d4 for guidance if it is OK to ask my God for help to draw a high card lol! 2)
Seeing the old mill silhouetted by the faint moonlight, Yessica makes her way there slowly, fumbling and tripping in the dark. She dares not light a torch, for fear that her pursuers might still be close. Finding a quiet corner to wrap her self in her worn cloak, wondering what in Hells she would do now.
Jaeson jumped at the sudden appearance of the newcomer. Jaeson was still a little jittery, all things considered. His fists were clenched, and his teeth were grit, a small shaking to him. That soon subsided, as Tibby and Skip spoke. Jaeson's face smoothed, and his fists unfurled into open palms, as he controlled his breathing.
At first Jaeson was skeptical of allowing this Gnome to tag along. Twenty five gold was plenty to go around, but the more people who started tagging along, the less of a split there'd be. Of course, the more in the party, the safer they all were, as a collective, so perhaps Jaeson should not have complained. But this job hardly needed extra muscle, considering what it entailed. I mean...what could possibly go wrong?
Jaeson watched intently as the two played out their little game, for Tibby's services. The human almost leaped for joy when Skip came through in spades for the two of them. "Yes! Ahem, I mean, uh, yes, well, hm, yes." Jaeson stuck a hand out to shake Tibby's. "My name is Jaeson. We would be very happy to have you tag along. The more of us there are, the safer it is."Perhaps Skip was right about helping people, about letting them in. Maybe this Gnome was the first step in this brave new quest. "You needn't worry. We've simply to warn some woman who lives up on the hill about dragon sightings, and urge her to return to Phandalin. Easy twenty five gold's worth, aye?"
"A dragon you say? I haven't been in town long but the locals complain while in their cups at the taverns about a dragon, but all villages blame dragons for their misfortunes. There was this one farmer way up north that swore there was a dragon coming at night and killing his chickens. And do you know what it was? A raccoon with the mange."
Tibby takes out his lute and starts singing a song he wrote about the farmer and the bandit eyed dragon.

Back at the ruined village, Bree puts away her spellbook and glances around. She is mildly surprised to find it has gotten fairly dark, the rumbling in her tummy telling her it is past time to eat. Seeing that no one has started a fire, let alone dinner, she sighs and gets up.
"You probably will regret letting me do the cooking." She informs the others as she sets about starting a fire. When the blaze gets going she pulls together pots and pans, and sends someone off to get water from the well. Going through the supplies they managed to salvage from the larder, she puts together a fairly simple meal of oat cakes, toasted bread, and a jug of ale they can pass around.
Cook check: 4
The food is surprisingly good. Bree eats quite a bit, seemingly more than a little pint-sized person like her should be able to do anyway.

"A vow of non violence? That's quite rare these days." Noa mused. "Well, no sense dallying."
He watched and did what he could to help, wishing the dead closure in the afterlife. He wished for their peace and that they wouldn't be disturbed as an undead conjuration as he viewed it as a desecration of the departed. Noa held his tongue and restrained himself from saying anything to the hobgoblin. Normally he would tell people that you must respect the dead. The thing is, these were the bodies of the raiders who killed and pillaged. It was understandable for him.
Night fell as they set up camp in the village outskirts. He tried his best to make conversation but what is there to talk about exactly? Village raided, lots of dead bodies and a very angry hobgoblin with a pacifist halfling were what he had to work with.
"Mind if I sit?" He asked Bree. "That seemed deep, what you've buried yourself into reading earlier."
The halfling took it upon herself to make dinner and for that he was grateful. He almost took a swig of ale but remembered he was trying to kick that habit and declined, resorting drinking water instead.
"This needs more flavor but the consistency of the cake is very good. Reminds me of home. My compliments to the chef." Noa smiled at the halfling.
PERZY'S returns from the hunt, carrying the quartered remains of a small deer. He announces himself before entering the firelight. Before dangling the meat over the fire with a hastily crafted rack, he says a quick prayer in goblin for the acceptance of his people into the afterlife and for the gods to accept an offering of meat in payment.
Following the tracks a little way you come upon Anyll messing around with the forest plants. Anyll had heard your movement and was asking for your identity. Just as you are about to introduce yourself properly, you here a loud crashing through the woods, just out of your view. And then something that sounds like curse words in elvish. You can hear what sounds like a large animal running off into the woods.
If you investigate open the spoiler
You find the Elvish ranger ash has stepped into a shallow pit trap of some sort as he was pursuing a robust elk male. He is clearly not happy at losing the animal and embarrassed at having fallen into a trap, especially one as poorly constructed as this one.

The crashing done, Diashi exchanges names with Anyll while looking toward the place where Ash is trapped. Sound with no fury is not likely a threat, he thinks.
"Who is out there?" Daishi says while slipping his left arm through his shield grip. He steps forward, parting the branches carefully. "We're armed. If you mean foul play prepare yourself." He repeats this in perfect Elvish, having heard the cursing.
"Vow of non-violence?" Bree asks with a shake of her head. "My, no, I did not make a vow. I just do not use my magic that way." She shrugs. "I don't mind smashing a bug or two trying to get into the pantry, but leave the smacking of bigger things than that to others. I have no trouble making the smacking of things easier though."
"The book?" She asks as Noa asks about it. "That is just my spellbook. A wizard has to study often you know."
"Glad you liked the meal." She informs him once the eating is done. "Now, since I did the cooking you can do the cleaning."
When the hobgoblin appears later with the animal he killed she will glance around for something to season it with. "Definitely good with having another round of food." She informs the hobgoblin. "Can put away anything we don't eat for rations as we travel too." She starts to work helping with preparing the animal as it cooks over the fire.

Skip & Jaeson
As you travel you hear the faint sound of of a lute coming from the tree tops.
"Aye, are you two bloats really carrying a glowing spoon?"
Casts: Shadow Step
A gnome male with rusty red hair and a purple traveling cloak appears in the shadow behind skip shuffling cards.
"Can't help but to hear you back at the tavern say you are going after some easy coin. Would you mind if I tagged along and helped?"
