The air around the goblin begins to fill with dread — machinations of death and the horror of it’s own festering wounds begin to flood its thoughts as Squelch conjures a wicked green energy to rupture his opponents mind. Silently, eyes wide and wild, the goblin falls to the floor. Its jaw opens wide as if face to face with death herself, and their heart simply fails to keep up with the increased sense of danger, perishing on the ground.
The winds have come to a complete halt and the trail is now dead silent. Three dead goblins and one unconscious one are littered across the trail.
<End of Combat> (Unless you did want to thwack the unconscious goblin with your unarmed bonus strike Brandor)
Callie nocks another arrow onto her string, still keeping a wary eye out for stragglers. "Is everyone alright?" she says, a little shaken by both the suddenness of the ambush and the silence now falling over the road.
Brandor checks the goblin to see if he's dead. Noticing he is just knocked out he rushes back over to his pack to get some rope. The dwarf sets to quickly binding the creature so he won't' be an issue when he wakes.
"I'm alright, this guy has seen better days. Let's see if we can get some information out of him, anyone speak goblin?"

<Squelch> hops off the wagon and approaches Bartholomew. <Deep, commanding male voice> "Easy now, easy.I'll fix you right up."He whispers strange sounds and reaches a glowing hand towards the arrow wound.
<Squelch> then walks towards the dead horses. <Abrasive, high-pitched voice> "Meat pies for sale! Cheap and good, get 'em while they are fresh!" He gestures towards the horses. <sound of sizzling meat>
Grum walks up to the unconscious goblin and double checks it's bindings. Satisfied with the knots tied by Brandor, he roughly slaps the goblin awake.
In Goblin, Grum says "Tell me, foul creature, what happened to the owners of these horses? Who are they? Are they alive or dead? And where are they now?"
The goblin wakes up and gives a squeal, looking up at all of you as he attempts to stand up and run away, but he is effectively restrained by Brandor's rope. He eyes the party and his dead allies, resigning back down into the grass before responding in a wild voice. "Ummmm. The cart... the cart... the horses! The small dwarf man was taken to the King: King Grol! We brought the human one to the eating cave. I think still alive. Maybe eaten. Dont know.Oh no!Please don't eat me! Im not yummy! If you don't eat me I be thankful! I can take you to eating cave if you no eat me."
"Oh, maybe less than twenty in eating cave. Klarg the big bugbear smashed the cart and took the food and gold! Then he give food to wolf! Can you believe? Um. Not many good thing. He have map and we give to King Grol in the castle when we bring him the dwarf." He eyes you as you lick your lips and his eyes go wide. You can see him try and pull his restraints to cover his face but he is very nicely bound
(Yes, by now you would know these horses to belong to SIldar and Gundren, and the goblins description does match.
Grum draws a shortsword and waves it in the goblin's face. "The people you ambushed were our friends. We're going to need to get them back, as well as the map you speak of. Twenty in the eating cave. How many with this 'King Grol'? And is his castle part of the same cave, or in a different place?"
"King Grol no like me... and he live in big castle far away from here. The eating cave only like fifty meters that way." He points off towards the left. "I dont know how many live in King Grol's castle but just dont chop me up please please please please!"
He seems to be telling the truth and genuinely terrified, to the point where he may have soiled himself. He is genuine about his lack of knowlegde regarding King Grol and the castle, and you feel that maybe he's at the lowest of the food chain. He clearly has minimal understanding of the larger situation and was probably just doing exactly what this 'Big Bugbear' tells him to.

Grum swings his shortsword and decapitates the goblin.
He turns to the group, "You should have heard what he called you all with his last words. The problem with goblins is they never know when to be polite and beg for mercy. However, I did get some information out of him. And we've got a problem.
"The owners of the horses - the victims of the goblin ambush - were Gundren and Sildar. The goblins have a hideout, he said fifty metres that way," Grum points in the direction the goblin indicated. "I don't know if I believe him yet about the direction, but I can track them pretty well and confirm that shortly. They took Sildar there - he referred to it as the 'eating cave', so we should probably go quickly if we are to see Sildar alive again. From what I could work out before he goaded me into killing him, the goblins here may be led by a 'big bugbear' named Klarg - he's the one who smashed Gundren's cart and took his stuff. And Klarg apparently has at least one hungry pet wolf. However, Klarg isn't the top end of their food chain. There's someone called "King Grol" who lives in some kind of castle far away, and that's where they apparently took Gundren and the map. I suggest we go rescue Sildar, and then try to track them down before they get Gundren to this King Grol. As for our own cart with the provisions on it, we might need to hide it here in the trees. We'll be going on foot if we do this."
After he finishes speaking, Grum will inspect the ground to see which direction the goblin trails lead - whether they lead in the same direction the dead goblin was pointing. Survival: 22
You do see upon inspection of the area dozens of small footfalls most likely left by the goblins, some looking hours old and others looking days old. The footsteps mainly do lead in the direction the goblin pointed, and just by following the trail with your eyes you know that it definitely is a lot more than fifty meters away
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
<Squelch> carves a few chunks of horse meat for later. He then starts going through the possessions of the slain goblins while Grum is interrogating the goblin. He stops after Grum finishes speaking. <Young female's voice> "...you look out for each other. No matter what."He gestures towards the trail.

The horses have been dead about a day so unfortunately most of the meat is in the process of decaying and unsafe to eat. If you still want to get some meat you can still carve off some sections, but the quality will still be questionable. Looting the goblins yields nothing spectacular. Between them you find 12 copper pieces and some smooth stones. Aside from that they have rough and worn gear: 4 sets of torn leather armour, 2 scimitars and 2 shortbows.
<Squelch> sets the 2 scimitars and 2 shortbows in the cart. He pockets the coppers and starts dragging the goblin corpses off the road into the brush. He mutters quiet words as he deposits them carefully. Anyone close hears funeral incantations in a variety of voices.

Brandor gathers his rope from the recent captive then helps Squelch dispose of the bodies. "I'm all for tracking down some baddies and doing justice. But I'm also for keep'n my neck. Maybe we do a little scouting now and come back with a plan and reinforcements? A bugbear and his horde of gobbies doesn't sound like easy pick'ns."The dwarf is happy to commit to an unfair fight. He just wants the odds in his favor rather than against. He rubs his shoulder, wincing at the arrow wound.
Callie jumps when Grum executes the goblin without any warning, it looked so terrified, she thinks. Grum's account of what he learned distracts her soon enough, but the image lingers in the back of her mind... But now isn't the time for that. She left home to prove that she could take care of herself, and now with Gundren in danger, her path is clear. But how to go about saving one of her oldest friends...
"I agree with Brandor," she said, "Goblin don't fight fair if they can help it, and if we want to fight twenty of them and a bugbear we'll need to return the favor. That said," she gives Brandor a helpless shrug, "I'm not sure that we can get anyone else's help in this. We're in the wilderness, days away from any towns or cities that could aid us, and I don't like Sildar or Gundren's chances if we just leave them for a few days. We'll just have to be smart about it, try and keep them divided, set traps and ambushes where we can, that sort of thing." With a frown, she adds, "The wolves are going to make that tricky..."
