Garrin is about to put his foot on the first step when he hears a creak from behind the column, and sees a silhouette of a skeletal body pressed against it...
Garrin freezes. swords ready, he takes a slow step back and indicates to the others that danger is ahead.
Taking just a moment to think, he takes an arrow from his quiver and tosses it on the steps near the feet of the skeleton, hoping to get it to react. Meanwhile, he waits to attack with his shortsword. Initiative:24

Noting Garrin hesitance at the steps, Jolly squints worriedly, but held back questions. Instead, and without looking away from Garrin or the stairs, he began fishing around in a side pouch until a trio of pebbles were in hand and ready to be enchanted at a moment's notice. Then thinking better of it, he looks closer to the ceiling for any added surprises. Initiative: 8(for when/if it comes up)

In a low whisper and a light tap on the shoulder Valik says to Garrin, "I believe it is inanimate for now. There must be something that triggers it. I think you have the right idea for testing the steps." Valik's voice is an ideal whisper, his voice normally breathy anyway. He shuffles slightly to the side to try and see if he can spot more figures pressed against the column.
As Valik quietly steps to the side and peers behind the column, he raises a hand to the group, holding up two fingers, indicating he sees two skeletons. In concert, Garrin plops his arrow on the steps, and is rewarded with the hideous sound of rusty steel rasping across leather as two skeletons lurch to action, drawing forth scimitars.
[y'all knew this was coming so you have surprise and all go first this round; Valik, Texas, please roll initiative]
Garrin is ready with swords drawn and embeds one directly into the first skeleton.
[Garrin blocks the stairway so no further melee combatants unless they hop on the ledge and flank from behind. All PCs have clear view of skeletons, even Valik]
[those initiative rolls will kick in next round, for the moment you have surprise and therefore can take actions before the skeletons do. Please roll!]
Seeing the skeletons in full before him, Jolly's expression -- for just a moment -- darkens into something more full of rage. Within that span of time, he brings stones in hand up to his lips, whispers something that sounded vaguely celtic, though softer and more passively invigorating to hear, and in one smooth motions whips a glowing green pebble at the uninjured skeleton.
As soon as the moment passes, Jolly immediately covers his mouth and said, "Oh! S-sorry! But you should really be resting now, Sir Skeleton."
The dagger whizzes over Garrin's head to shatter the skull of the skeleton; it falls to the floor, motionless.
Garrin moves forward and the others follow him up the stairs. There are two tunnels at the back of the ledge leading west; one on the right, one on the left.
What do you do?
[7:04; MO: Garin 1st, Bowark 2nd, Valik 3rd, Jolly Last; all full HP]
Aside from pausing long enough by the skeletons to offer a short prayer Jolly kept pace with the others. Fearing the way forward growing increasingly more divided going forward, the firbolg scrapped together what small pieces of sharp rock and chalk might be on his person, and would start place little messages in druidic in the walls or flooring going forward. Meaningless scribbles to most, but to him, directions on their path going forward.
"Unless the Lady uses magic to get around, perhaps the most traveled way is the best way?"He whispers to the others a possible hint for Garrin's focus.

"Give me a moment. Bowark, bring some light will you?"Garrin checks the floor near both entrances for signs of tracks. (Perception: 18).
If he sees that one entrance is more used than the other - Garrin turns to the other two and signals them over. "Over this way guys, the tracks lead this way."
If he does not see obvious tracks or both are equal - Garrin heads toward the entrance on the left and signals the other two over. "Sorry, it's not clear, but whenever I have to choose like this I always head left. I say we go that way."
Before going through the entrance to the chosen tunnel, Garrin checks for potential traps or enemies hidden in the shadows, again. (Perception: 15)
Finding no tracks, Garrin heads into the left tunnel. After a short walk, another cavelike chamber becomes apparent; the torchlight is caught and refracted hundreds of times by the large pink crystals coming out of the walls and ceiling.

Next...?
Bowark whips the lantern up towards the skeletons and pulls up her dagger arm, ready to throw it at the furthest skeleton.

The flung stone enters the eye socket of the uninjured skeleton and clatters about inside the skull, knocking the skeleton's head aside.
[Bowark and Valik are next...]
Valik weaves his hands together in a well practiced manner and casts Fire Bolt. He targets the same skeleton as Jolly.
Attack: 24 Damage: 11
The fire bolt speeds from Valik’s hands into the farther skeleton, bursting its rib cage apart; it falls to the cave floor, inert.
Bowark snaps her wrist forward, throwing the knife at the remaining skeleton. (assuming that the one Garrin attacked is still standing?)
Attack: 16
Damage: 5 + Sneak attack damage 4
