Lucky softly moves to stand to one side of the area, so that he has a good view of all those now gathered around the body, but near to Lespin if he can. Who was she? he asks quietly. Crew, or passenger?

Jax warforged artificer
Jax would move towards the corpse and drop to one knee with a loud clank. His head would look left to right multiple times as the large lense on his face shed a bright yellow glow that wasnt nearly as noticable in the bright sunlight. Showing no real respect for the body, he would roll the body over and thoroughly scan the remains for any clues as to what happened as the yellow light eventually passed over every inch of her body.
Investigation! 15
"Clean kill, we should search her clothes and belongings and check for valuables. If valuables remain, it could mean an assassination." The warforged would report very coldly as he returned to he feet.
Taraki (Tara), Variant Human Knowledge Domain Cleric
The moment Jax reaches for the body, Tara immediately swats his hand, giving him an irritated scowl. "Do not move the spe-body until I have had the chance to take adequate notes." She removes her notebook and begins taking notes in Draconic, her hand moving fluidly across the paper as a sketch of the scene begins to form, surrounded by notes. She's done in under a minute, then nods at Jax. "Now, you may move the body."
Jax would have slowly turned his head to focus on the human for a moment as his hand was batted away... The lens on his face focusing as the brightness increased ever so slightly for a moment as in agitation before returning to its normal brightness. Once given the OK, he would have looked to the body.. then back to Tara... and then back to the body before performing his investigation
Taraki (Tara), Variant Human Knowledge Domain Cleric
Tara doesn't appear to notice the increase in brightness, too absorbed in her notes and diagram. Once she gives Jax the okay, she immediately begins making a detailed sketch of the dead half-elf's dragonmark, her notes stemming off the lines of the Mark as she works, all still in Draconic as she murmurs to herself in the same language.
Draconic:
"Line of Siberys here...cut with the blood trail, could mean an intervention in fate...curve is similar to the one found at the Ilyrian Rocks...wonder if there's a connection to that planar conjunction..."

Jax/Tara passive investigation - 13 vs Tara investigation roll: 17
Through Tara’s initial evaluation followed by Jax’s. The first thing you notice besides the gore all over the body and William is that there is a crumpled up piece of paper in the palm of the woman’s hand. There are no other defensive wounds on the body, giving reason that it was a surprise or she was comfort with whoever did this.
Tara is able to see that there is some sort of residue, like a liquidy goo, small amount like a golf ball size splattered next to the body. Arcana/history check: 10 she recalls that a residue can be found after the areas in where a doppelgänger has changed forms.
Jax finds on the body an empty sheath for a knife, and a recording type device similar to the one that Lucky has been using.
The paper looks to be a page torn out of a journal of extensive notes of the runes, studying the properties of flight the ship uses without harnessing elementals.
Taraki (Tara), Variant Human Knowledge Domain Cleric
Tara inhales sharply. "A doppelganger changed form here," she says softly, quicking adding a flurry of notes to her page. "Fascinating, utterly fascinating. Perhaps the culprit, or maybe a witness. Likely surprised, or tricked. Further supporting the doppelganger culprit theory, as they could have changed shape to look like someone they knew, which of course means they could be anybody. I wonder what motive was? And this page! Spectacular. Not particularly useful to my studies, though, which rules out Lords of Dust, at least going after this specifically. Possibly some connection though, due to the dragonmark. Flight..." Her voice remains detached and purely dispassionate throughout the first couple sentences, only gaining excitement once she starts examining the page.
“Stop it! All of you! She is not a specimen! Nor a body. She was a person. She was a Lyrandar. Crewman, find me a ships manifest. I need to know who she was and how was I unaware of her presence on this ship! Which cabin was hers? Run and inform your captains of what has happened and tell them if they want any hope of keeping this ship I will know what happened before we dock!” As she looked to those around you could see tear streaks on her face and thunderheads in her eyes. She drew herself up as she spoke. And gave instruction as though there were no doubt that they would be followed. After a moment she takes a calming breath. “I apologize. I understand that you are all trying to help in your own way. I would ask that more care to show respect to the deceased be given. I will be claiming any of her possessions on behalf of House Lyrandar though. And will also see to it that anyone who aids in the capture of her killer is justly compensated.”
At this point William cuts in “Her name was Sophie. She was on this ship as part of our agreement with House Lyrandar. She was spending some time looking over how we got this thing operating. Seeing how we weren’t paying them back after the settlement and them having different ships didn’t effect us. We didn’t have any problem with her, she had a room on the next floor up, second door on the left coming from the ladder on that end.” As he points to the bow. “Nice girl, it’s a shame, really.... you have my condolences. I’ll go speak with Jimmy, let me know if there is anything else you require ma’am.” With that he nods in Lespin’s direction as they begin to walk towards the bow to exit.
Taraki (Tara), Variant Human Knowledge Domain Cleric
Tara glances up after Squall's third sentence, blinking, her pen still not stilling on her page, which by now holds a detailed diagram of the woman's Mark. "I apologize, I am unused to firsthand death. I normally learn about these things from afar. I intend to discover the perpetrator and motive for her death for my research, no additional compensation will be required, although I would ask that you allow me to copy this page into my notes before giving it to you." She flips over her paper and begins neatly copying and translating the page into Draconic on a fresh sheet of paper.
Virnen moves closer to Tara and speaks to her in Draconic. "You seem to know your stuff." He then addresses the group in Common. "I'm not sure what's going on here, but I can hunt and I can fight, so count me in on finding whoever did this."
Lucky stands behind Tara and also copies the page into his journal. As he writes, he comments: Since Miss Sophie's reason for being here was to look at things, then it seems likely that she was killed for something she saw. Unless of course someone really doesn't like House Lyrandar. He looks at Virnen; Maybe you should stay close to,and he jabs his pen towards Salqwyn, this fine lady, just in case she's next. Just speculation at this stage, of course.
Then he reaches for the Recording Stone and attempts to put it on playback, if this one has that feature.
Taraki (Tara), Variant Human Knowledge Domain Cleric
Tara glances up at Virnen, surprise momentarily breaking out across her features, followed by realization. As usual, her pen doesn't still even as she speaks.
Draconic:
"How did you come to speak my first lang-of course, elf. Makes sense. This is my life's work, building on the life's work of thousands before me, I certainly hope I know what I am doing, or a great deal of sacrifices have been in vain. I have not heard my language come from Khorvairans before, although I suppose it would be more likely that you would know it then the average Khorvairan."
She then turns her attention to Lucky, face intent. "Indeed, it is certainly a possibility. The fact that the page is still here means this is most likely not what it was, but that does not rule out information as the motive, as it is the most common one I have come across previously in my studies. The dragonmark is another potential reason, which would put anyone on board with a Mark in danger. However, until we acquire more information, any definitive conclusions cannot be drawn." Her pen suddenly stills on her paper, and she holds out the sheet from Sophie to Squall. "I am finished."
"May I have the page" Jax would ask holding out his hand towards Tara as the light from his lens illuminates her face with a yellow light. Jax would then hold the knife sheath up to his face and look it over before putting it in his jacket.
Virnen smiles at Tara and says in Draconic ”I am an elf, surprising people is what I do.” He then turns to the rest of the group and says in Common “So the next step is to find this assassin then.”
"I cannot translate draconic or elvish but am fluent in dwarvish" The warforged would add as the others around him, still waiting for the page. When the recording device Jax found is played, he would tilt his head as though trying to get a better listen to what is being said on the recording.
"Hmm? Oh yes, I suppose so." Tara hands the page to Jax quickly, then glances at Virnen at his words, a sudden, humorless smile spreading across her face as her fingers unconsciously trace one of the silver scales in her dress for a moment.
Draconic:
"I thought hunting dragons is what elves do." Her voice holds a hint of challenge.
She then turns to Squall, flipping back to the diagram she'd previously started of Squall's Mark and glancing down at it. "You said you did not know her, correct? If she was here on behalf of her House, this could also be Twelve politics, or even the part of one of the ship's crew, if she saw something they did not want House Lyrandar to know of," she says, apparently totally oblivious of the fact that William and Lespin, while walking away, could still be in earshot. "This is a truly fascinating mystery. I will help you solve it and find her killer."
Taking the paper from Tara and scoping up the recording device. "I'm sorry I really must insist on retaining these on behave of our family." Looking around quickly at the open area they are in. "Now I will be going to her quarters to see if there might be any evidence there as to why she was killed and by whom. Might I suggest we take our discussion of these matters there. Or at least somewhere a little less public." Looking to the goblin "You will see to it that she is properly cared for yes? If you could wrap her in a proper burial shroud and is laid somewhere more...peaceful for now I will see to arrangements when we arrive at dock."
Jax'w yellow eye would flare up for a moment as he is denied the page that others were allowed to so freely copy and the recording device he uncovered was taken. He wouldn't say a word but his thin metalic fingers would form a fist before slowly returning to a more relaxed position. "I will accompany you to her quarters." He would say while looking to the others. "I was commissioned to serve Breland in the war where I fought Aundair, Cyre, Karrnath, and Thrane at various points of the war. I was also assigned work where I was also occasionally tasked with terminating Darguun and Droaam." The warforged would add plainly. "I was never tasked with terminating members of any house however. I will assist in finding the assassin hidden among us."
(OOC: I had to go back an edit this post since he was not given the page after all)
