(Ooc: the roleplay was a bit cut short by the forum transition, so while we're waiting I'm just going to continue if that's okay)
To Sylvester's question, Nicola quips, "Well, you know the Host, can't pray to just one!" Nicola laughs to herself. "Me, I find myself drawn to Boldrei -- tending to the great social fabric, you know, as I can. My church, though..." She pauses. "I'll just say, these days, the Goddess in her infinite wisdom has chosen a more solitary path for me to serve the community."
Nicola is grateful for the arrival of the sky coach. Eager to get moving, she remarks to the party, "Shall we?"
As the skycoach lurches forward, the party finds it descending towards the middle northedge quarter, the High Hope district. It is a well known place for the truly devout to go to instead of the lavish monastery on the upper quarters. The coach stops in front of a small church, complete with its own small garden. Inside, there are a few church goers in the pews praying and some acolytes doing chores about. A human man in priest robes restrings an ornate bow as he hangs it below a statue of a flame with inlaid silver.
He is a middle aged man with slicked back ebony hair, matching with his fading beard. His skin is fair as he gives a nod towards the party, "Greetings, I am friar Donovan Phentild. Are you adventurers here for my request or are you seeking a cleansing?" Donovan asks
"Good day Friar. We are indeed here to help with your request. We only have the briefest of details that were in the initial recruitment sign. You have need of us to rid the nearby forest of the undead walking?"
Sylvester decides to walk up to an acolyte and ask “so do you really think the undead are walking around the forest?? Or could it be someone playing a joke on the temple?”
Before walking leaving on the skycoach, Brozznan will unpin his badge and remove a wallet from inside his coat pocket. He pins the badge inside the wallet and slides it back into the pocket. "Hello Friar." Brozznan will stick out a hand to shake the man's hand. Brozznan stands with Kastor and the friar. "My understanding is the church has a rather sizable military force. Why hire out a job like this to some adventurers in posting at a tavern?" Brozznan maintains an eye on Sylvester. Not that he seems like trouble, but so he doesn't get himself into trouble. "Do you have any inclination where the dead are coming from? Are they making their way somewhere or just meandering about?"
Donovan nods, "Yes, but in the forest near Ringbriar. A devout sent word to our humble church of sightings of the undead there. He described them as shambling about with decaying flesh and a rotten smell so possibly zombies. The devout also speaks of a possible point of origin, a crypt in the forest. He has avoided it due to the village's tales of it but it seems to be the most logical origin for the dead." He then looks to Brozznan, "Although the Silver Flame has many paladins and clerics, the bulk of them stands ready in Thrane. Even if I send word to a minister, it will take up to a week to arrive to him. And then another two weeks for a force to arrive to the village. I asked the guild for help and you've all answered in a couple of days. I've already paid for transportation so you can be there in a few hours."
The acolyte seems a bit confused, "Undead in the King's forest? Did you tell the Friar about this? We can send word for aid from Thrane if the forest is infected with the dead."
Kastor looks at Brozznan, "Zombies, huh. Sounds serious. We might as well get moving then, unless, Friar, you happen to have any particular weapons or anything else sitting around that might help us banish the undead?"
"I for one appreciate your prompt concern, for the sake of the village," Nicola joins the group and says. "It's refreshing when the clergy take the concerns of the people seriously." By way of introduction, she adds, "Nicola Leguin. Pleased to meet you, friar. We will do our best to investigate this crypt and the nearby forest and make sure the Ringbriar community feels safe. Though I agree with my colleague Kastor, we would greatly appreciate any information, weapons, supplies or blessings that could keep us safe."
To the party, she remarks, "we should make sure to gather information about the nature of this crypt when we get to the village."
Sylvester shows a little shocked at the acolytes response and replies “Forget that I mentioned it at all, it must not be a big deal.” Sylvester’s tone is that of “I know something you don’t know”
He does a pinpoint turn on his heel and rejoins Kastor, Brozznan , and the Friar stating softly “The congregation at large doesn’t seem to know what’s going on, was this suppose to be kept under wraps?”
“Yes, yes. I could see time being an issue, Friar.” Brozznan pulls out a note pad and jot down a few notes. “Friar, you don’t happen to have a contact in Ringbriar? Maybe this, uh, devout you speak of? Any information we can obtain from the folks having to deal with this menace will no doubt be vital to our mission.”
Upon Sylvester coming back to the party, Brozznan will speak to him. “Now dear boy, you mustn’t get these folks all riled up in the stories of the undead and,” Brozznan pauses for a moment to chuckle, “monsters.” Brozznan gives him a knowing wink. “Now stay close or we may lose you in all this here hustle and bustle. Passage has been secured and I think we shall be on our way shortly.”
Sylvester replies to Brozznan “The people should known what’s happening and how to prepare for it, but I see your point. As for the hustle and bustle I’ve gotten lost in much worse and made it out to see the light one the other side, but the concern is definitely welcomed I do tend to wonder off and find trouble, let’s be on our way the sooner the better.”
"Yes, the devout's name is Hans. He is a hunter for the village. And to answer why my congregation does not know, it is because we're already busy with spreading our teachings here in Sharn. Although the village is quite a ways away, I still feel it is necessary to answer their calls. I've just not told my acolytes about it as to not plague them with worry. They're still young and impressionable." Donovan answers, "And I can part with two flasks of holy water, although not much else."
(Just need to know who'd like to hold onto the holy water.)
"Thank you, friar," Nicola says. "You have a lovely church. I agree with my colleagues though, we should be on our way."
(Who all wants to hold onto them? RP wise it might make most sense for me & Kastor, since we asked, but if anyone else would like to take one I'm fine with it)
