(Yeah, I'm happy to take a vial and Nicola take the other - is there a difference between a vial and a flask? Trying to add it into character sheet. Presumably a flask is much bigger than a vial, but flask is the only official option, so wondering if it would just need to be a custom item?)
"Thank you Friar. Any help at all is better than nothing. Now, we should depart before your acolytes start asking more questions and getting nervous."
The friar hands over a flask to both Kastor and Nicola. He wishes them luck as they leave. As you head out, you see the acolyte Sylvester was talking to approach the friar. The friar had prepared a carriage to take you all to the town of Moonwatch. From there, you'd have to follow a path along the small river to reach Ringbriar. In total, the trip took about three hours, two on carriage and one on foot.
The party follows the creek until they can see up ahead a sleepy little village. And past the village they can see forest. The party seeks for a hunter's hut or something similar to it, and after a short while, they find a little home with a tanning rack outside it. A halfling kneels before it, working on the leather. He looks up to the party, "Can I help you?" He asks.
Nicola spends much of the carriage ride in quiet meditation, preparing her spells and gathering her courage and spiritual will for the ordeal ahead. She engages in small talk with her companions about the weather and scenery on the uneventful walk up to the village.
As they approach Ringbriar and seek the hunter's home, she keeps an eye out for signs of distress among any other villagers they might pass, or any indications that something is amiss in the nearby forest.
Perception: 22
Beyond that, she's sensitive to the impact of four armed adventurers walking around a sleepy village on what appears to be a serious mission, so she tries to be as unobtrusive as possible. She wants to be sure that they are in fact speaking to the devout hunter before mentioning the specifics of the job, so she waits on the response to Kastor's question.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
During the trip, Brozznan will note down the direction of the carriage in his notebook the best he can.
Survival: 17
Between short notes, Brozznan restrings his crossbow. "We cannot allow these creatures to venture further out from where they all currently are. The spread of these creatures must be stopped. This scourage will test this group and I hope you all are ready for what lies ahead."
If this halfling does in fact claim to be Hans, Brozznan will make an effort for the parties to go into his residence. "Best if we spoke inside I think, considering the nature of our presence here." If we are ushered in, Brozznan will continue. "Friar Donovan sent us,"I say matter of factly. "The undead you saw, can you describe them for us? And where were you when you saw them?"
After the halfling answers Bronzznan question Sylvester will try to talk to the halfling in our shared tongue “how much do the towns people know about the situation? Would there be a panic if we were to warn them?”
The halfling nods, "Well you've found him, I'm Hans." After taking the party inside, Hans answers Brozzan's question, "Well they were shambling about in the forest I hunt in. They weren't skeletons since they still had flesh. But their clothes, skins, and their smell was rotten enough to tell it was the dead. Frankly, I've been trying to steer them away from the village with some fresh kills. Been working but its odd how they keep coming closer to the village."
[In halfling]
"Nothing, we've no leadership here. As long as you work your piece you can settle here. But I would imagine there would be a panic, so I kept quiet about it so they don't. If they did panic, then they'd head for Moonwatch and I doubt they have enough room for all of us."
@ Nicola
The villagers look content, going about their chores and helping around the village. There's no sign of defenses or even weapons at the ready. The forest looks calm, from what you can see. A few small critters go about but nothing predatory.
@ Brozznan
The carriage takes you northeast, then crosses a bridge, which then turn to head southwest. It cruises along the coast until it comes to Moonwatch at the end of the bay.
Sylvester replies in halfling “Thank you for the information, we do not want to flood a city that can not handle an overflow. You mentioned the dead still had clothes, commoners clothes? Did they have any identifying marks?”
"Can't say, I kept clear from them and only observed from afar. And hard to tell, the clothes color had already faded and the rotting, tears, and moth eaten wear of it didn't help."
"You've done a good job protecting the village, Hans," Nicola says. "But it's clear that something must be done, or someone less considerate may notice, and the people will panic."
She tries to recall her religious schooling, to think what could be behind a rise in the undead so far south, in Breland no less. "The obvious thing here is that the undead don't raise themselves. If we can find the source, then either we can put an end to it, or we can perhaps hold it at bay until more help arrives."
"The friar spoke of a crypt in the forest, a place where the undead may be originating. Are there any local legends about this crypt, any history you can tell us?"
"Afraid not, some of the elder folk here tell tales about it but mostly to scare the young ones from going too far into the forest. And the only thing really consistent between all of them is how its in a grove stuck in fall. I haven't fully explored the forest so I don't know about any grove like that. But I do suppose follow the smell if there ain't a grove, they smell quite a bit."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"What happened to the ones that you spotted? Did you manage to keep them in the forest? Have they wandered out and need hunting down? Or can we go straight to dealing with the source of them, in this grove?"
Kastor turns to the group, "If it's just a case of following the smell, I can do that pretty well."

At the mention of the grove, Sylvester tries to think of the grove that is stuck in fall to see if anything comes to mine
History: 14
To the group, “I think we should at least head to the village to gather some information on the grove, there is always some truth to Tell Tales and they could give us some valuable insight”
"Agreed. To avoid spooking them, we can just say we were tasked to investigate the legends of the crypt in the forest, without mentioning the undead. Also, yes,any information you might have Hans about the location of your most recent sightings or where you left fresh corpses would be greatly appreciated."
(You'll get advantage to finding the smell once you enter the forest.)
"Well I've been trying to-" As he starts to explain, a scream pierces the air. Hans rushes to the window and grimaces, "Damn it!" Hans grabs his shortbow and rushes for the door, "Knew it was a matter of time, kept on coming closer and closer each damn day. I'll try to round up the villagers and calm them down, cause that scream is going to attract more of them. You all handle the ones that got into the village and save any villagers alright! Good!" He grabs a few more weapons outside his shack and heads towards the commotion.
Sylvester gives an approving nod as he waits to for the group to depart.
(my vote is Kastor and Nicola each get one vial)
