“-Perhaps, but they hold the potential for greatness. And their fate remains unaccounted for. That alone would make them worth watching, however, given the timing, this group may just find themselves standing in the way of the coming crisis” a being shrouded in darkness explained.
“You believe these adventurers may be the salvation we are looking for?” a being wreathed in fire responded in question.
“Given time, yes. They may just stumble into being the heroes of their time, even.” The shadow paused as another game piece shook with a similar energy, then crumbled into dust. It's remains quickly dispersed into the air as its place was taken by another piece, “or they may all die horribly I suppose.”
“Excuse me?”
“What? Even beings such as us, cannot predict the future with perfect accuracy, and their profession by its nature tends towards an early grave.” The shrouded figure stated in a more lackadaisical tone.
“Not comforting, old friend.” responded seriously.
“No, I suppose it isn’t. They are still worth watching all the same.”
Welcome to ‘Gods Will Be Watching’ my debut PbP that I'm DMing. The Campaign will take place in a homebrewed setting on a world called Elune. The above is basically an overarching premise of the Campaign, your party’s adventuring career have caught the eye of some of the gods. And they will be keeping tabs on your progress. Other than that, aside from the first quest line, some vague idea of dangers surrounding the kingdom, and background information concerning the history and religion of the world, I don’t have much planned. The reason for this being that I want to have the overarching campaign be your characters’ story. What that actually means is something that we’ll figure out along the way.
I’d like your party to be already pre-established with one or two quests already under your belt. So you will be starting at level 2 to represent being slightly more experienced. You will be starting in the City of Vahl, the capital of the Kingdom of Yvren.
If you’re interested then please drop your Character sheet & Backstory in a post below. I'm looking for 4-6 players. You can use the Standard array or Point Buy for Attributes. For starting equipment you can use either the starting equipment suggested starting gold to purchase equipment listed in your class. In addition, you gain 45 Gold that you can use either to buy equipment or keep for yourself. Any material Published by Wizards is fine (Source books & UA). Any homebrew should be run by me via PM first, I’m going to include the Planeshift: Zendikar stuff in there as well because I’ve honestly just never looked at it before. I also have a Homebrewed race of Sharkmen if anyone is interested, which I will link at the bottom of the post, I would love to get them play tested a bit more. I reserve the right to ask you to change something upon reviewing your Character sheet.
I'll be using a Discord Channel for the ease of communication and die rolls. I'll send an invite to players after they've been accepted.
I'm open to new players, so if you're new to 5e or D&D or even RPGs, in general, I'm happy to help you in any way I can. If someone would like to join and would like some help with character creation for this campaign PM me and I'll help out as I can.
Just to let you guys know a bit more about me. I've been playing RPGs for two years now, and have been GMing just as long. I've been playing D&D with the same group of people in person for over a year, though I must admit I've been a player much more often than I've been a DM. That said I don’t think I can think of a period of time in the last two years when I wasn’t running one game or another.
When it comes to what I think of myself DMing. I appreciate the use of chance mechanically (rolling on treasure tables are my jam) and will use it to help build the world because it entertains me. I also enjoy shaping the world so that the characters themselves are very much ingrained in it. I enjoy injecting humor where appropriate, and sometimes not, but I always try and give my players space to flex their RP muscles.
Now how any of that will turn out in forum based RPing I have no idea, hopefully well though!
Clerics & Paladins: While I do have a system of deities consisting of 12 Over Gods and many separate pantheons of regional deities. I have by no means created and named every single deity that exists. If you want to play a cleric or paladin or have a neat idea concerning a god in this world PM or post below about the rough concept of the god and we can work it out. Let me know if You would like me to post more about the current cannon of Deities, or would just like a list to choose from.
The World: The World of Elune is a massive hollow sphere. The Material and four Elemental Planes are different regions of the World. With the world, just being so large that travel between these regions is near impossible with the assistance of magic like the plane shift spell.
Wardens: You can think of The Wardens like (and I'm sorry my analogies are USA-centric) a combination of a Federal Marshall, a Park Ranger, and Sam & Dean from the Show Supernatural. They hunt monsters and evil shit, while also keeping the hinterlands safe and tracking criminals. Basically, if these guys had their way, adventurers wouldn’t be needed.
But they’re very unorganized with no overarching authority over the different enclaves and with only the largest enclaves numbering in the Hundreds. The different warden enclaves are further divided by type:
Forest Wardens Protect the Forests
River Wardens Protect River & Marsh Lands
Winter Wardens Protect cold and Snowy climates
Pale Wardens are Nomadic & Hunt the Unsanctified Undead
Brightwardens They are seen as sellouts. They protect urban centers & act more like law enforcement, but also directly swear fealty to the local rulers.
Terrain: Just a quick note that I’ll be basing the terrain of Yvren and the surrounding region of Stormgarde on my home state of Maryland, so that means a lot of rivers & hills covered in humid forests, punctuated by cleared out farmlands and swamps. If people don’t constantly work vines and weeds grow over everything. Also, because I love them, Black Eyed Susan’s are everywhere.

The Storm Gods are all formal mortals, that were risen to the rank of Demigods after successfully diverting the Storm Dragon Thrawn. Either through outsmarting the mad god or undergoing massive quests to gain the power to challenge him. Many of these gods were once adventurers and as such act as the patrons to those sort of heroes. They now spend their eternity staying one step ahead of the storm. Coming ahead of Thrawn and warning the Mortals lying in his way and preparing them for the coming storm. These can be anything that you wish them to be.
Gods of Vahl
Hael & Belorra are the Gods that sit on the Throne of Fire. The Throne is a (semi)active volcano resting a few miles out of the City. The Godly Couple represents the dual nature of life in Vahl. Belorra representing the Fire in peace used to nurture anover watching all Vahlish as they enter and leave this world. Hael representing the Fire of War used to create arms and armor and to see their enemies dead and their lands burnt. There lies a great temple to this pair of gods in the center of the city, called The Hearth in times of peace, and The Forge at times of war.
