As the three of you make your way through the last of the path through the cliff-face, you see a large, seemingly floating island in front of you.
The most obvious thing about this area are the pillars. Seven of them arranged in a circle at the center of the island. Large and sky-reaching, they seem to be made of an obsidian black color. Texturally devoid, they look smooth, liquid-like, but solid.
A crackling sound can be heard from above and all around you. Are the pillars themselves moving? Swaying, perhaps? What is this blasphemy?
To the left, a bit away, is a small run-down looking hut. The roof looks as if it could cave in at any moment. Outside of the small hut is, at best guess, an Orc with thick, tattered robes and wearing glasses. They gleam in the still on-going silent lightening storm overhead whenever a flash occurs shines off this humanoids glasses’ rims. He or she seems to be hunched over, messing with something on the ground in front of it.
To the northern right edge of the island appears the remnants of what was once probably a nice and holy temple. Whatever god it was dedicated to is long lost to history. The ruins left behind speak little to whatever glamour this place once held. A set of stairs go to nowhere — probably left over from whatever this temple was at one point. A humanoid figure with a large pointed hat sits on the stairs. Head down, he or she doesn’t seem to pay much attention to the surroundings.
The three of you notice two figures, twitchy at times around the pillars. They appear childish in nature, but they seems to be full-grown adult humanoids. They poke at the pillars, sometimes separated from each other. When they meet, they seem to exchange whispers between each other, laughing at a joke only the two of them would probably understand.
in the middle of the pillars and in your direct line of sight, about 60 feet away from you as you depart the path of the cliff-face, is a tall, gaunt looking humanoid female. She seems to (as far as you can tell form the distance) to have pale, gray skin, blackened eyes, and is wearing a cloak with a hood (over her head covering some of her face) with holes here and there. She seems...mid 30’s if we were guessing or converting to human years.
She notices you as you exit the path...
She looks at the three of you. She says nothing...yet.

As you make your way to the woman standing in the middle of the pillars, the pair of apparent twins (the twitchy ones) creepily crawl/skip toward you. The woman in the middle of the pillars, some 40 feet away, seems curious — she caulks her head to the side as if to see how this little interaction will play out. The twins are making for you — crawling/skipping as if out of a horribly-wrong horror novel. They seem over-excitedly enthusiastic about you. You don’t immediately sense and real danger.
DM: The island is “floating” yes, but not like floating in front of you in any real way. Upon closer — yet far examination (you all just came from a dark path cut through a mountain — the cliff-face), there seems to be a constant movement of a sea of sorts all around you, except for where you came from — the path. In the distance beyond the island, all you can see is a unnaturally churning sea — purple and blue hued in color.

as lulu walks down he thought to himself to bewildered to speak 'ah turns out it was not floating... interesting... I want to examine it more, but these twins.... are enough fun for me'
Lulu lowers his weapon as to show non-hostility, but still not letting it go. While forcing out a forced laugh he asked them "haha what seems to be... exciting? mind telling this uncle here?"
The two seem to go into a full animalistic run toward you, going on all four hands and feet. They run past Odysseus, toward Lulu. Their tongues hang out of their mouths like dogs as they come up close. Lulu, they both stop at your feet. They are wearing badly torn robes that barely cover their bodies. One is male, the other is female. They appear to be short and elvish in nature. Their skin seems to be rotting in some places. Unruly large eyes that are nearly popping out of their sockets look up to greet you. They don't bark or anything like that, but they sniff at your feet and rub what passes for hair on their head against your legs like a friendly pet welcoming an owner. Matted and falling out here and there, their hair is black and greasy looking. Their bodies look like they are decaying in front of you -- like a nearly-there undead.
To your question, they don't answer. Incapable? Insane?
The woman who you saw at the center of the pillars before approaches, coming up by you, Odysseus, looking onward to the scene taking place of the twins rubbing their greasy hair (like a cat would to your leg) on Lulu's leg.
The woman holds out a hand toward the animal-like twins. One of them looks to her - the female, then scurries over to the welcoming palm. The woman messes with the loose tuffs of her "pet's" hair.
"I can answer your questions, child", she says as she looks at you, Odysseus, then to Lulu. Horribly pretty golden eyes meet each of yours.
She is a tall, pretty humanoid -- perhaps an elven ancestry. She has light gray skin, although there's some spotting here and there. It seems she's able to stave off the -- whatever it is that happened to the twins -- rather well. She has deep golden eyes and stands about 5'8", wearing a black robe with hand-sewn patches on it here and there. There's a purplish tone to the robe, particularly noticeable on the hood attached to it that she has draped over her head. White and long hair pokes out of the hood, falling down across her chest.

To Lulu, she answers -- "You are in the realm that is the Machine. And as for your memories... Well, they are behind you". She gestures behind you, toward the path you just came from.
"In the past".
To the comment about the shipwreck, she replies --"There are many ways to get here, child. I suppose that was yours".
Both of the twins have joined her, one on each side standing upright now. They seem to be sharing a private joke like children would behind a mother's back.
"What you might want to know is WHY you are here. Well, now. I will tell you. You are here to either become part of the Machine or stop it. The choice is yours. You are Wretched Ones, like the rest of us here."
She motions for you to follow. "Come, I have some things to show you". With that, she turns and heads toward the center of the small island. The twins follow.

Mor follows along relatively silent, trying to figure out more before talking too much. She knows her companions will probably ask all she wants to know anyway. Something about the twins drew her toward them but she did not know why though.

ooc: I am definitely not perseptive enough
Mor stops just ahead of the entrance and turns to her companions.
“Perhaps we should be even more careful when going forward. Who knows what could be ahead.”
PERCEPTION +4 GOING FORWARD
,
Lulu nods, readies up his club, and walk forward slowly with everyone.
"Lets"
Perception +3 T-T
DM: passive perception of 12 sees it. But you can move on if you want toward the opening.

As Lulu walks out from the crack, he puts it down slowly as his face starts to process what he's seeing right now.
"how... what... who are these people"
"Why are they here, what are these pillars and how is that Island floating"
He turns back, looking at Odysseus and Mor "Is this all a dream?"
Odysseus replies
"I hope it is a dream... We d better find out"
And he walks toward the woman, hailing with a hand, waiting to see what she does
,
Mor just shakes her head in response to Lulu’s question and steps forward with Odysseus, watching the woman very closely as she does so

"where are we, why can't I remember anything much about ... almost everything?"
Lulu asks with a confused but low tone like someone who's nervous
Odysseus adds

And thinking
"she looks pretty comfortable for being a wretched person"
,
Lulu follows along, still confused and nervous
"In the past??? May I know more? And what's is this machine... What do you mean ........... I'm sorry ... This ... This is all just ..."
