OOC Can Oorr tell if the winged statues are aarakocra?
You can tell they are not Aarakocra, but appear to be more devilish in appearance. Carved teeth and pointy ears adorn their heads. One statue has a mischievous grin, while the other appears to be crying.
"Oh look, these 2 statues are a bit strange. Otherwise, no treasure it seems. I’m a bit disappointed ."
Perception to see if anything is out of place: 14
The stream that is creating the waterfall is coming out of the cave wall behind the statues. All along this rushing water are strange crystalline formations that glow slightly purple and pink, but otherwise there is nothing of interest.
" *squeak* can they be victims of the Medusa's gaze? Better be careful, very much so. "
After Grimnir checks around, Oorr will lead the party down the hole in the burrow.
Oorr leads the way through a narrow path up into another area of the Rockblight. You have to trek single file through the cavern as the walls push in beside you. You emerge into a dimly glowing cavern on the other side (Area 19).
Light from bioluminescent fungi refracts through large crystal formations erupting from the floor, creating a kaleidoscope of colors on the surrounding walls. The crystals are semitransparent, slightly distorting images seen through them. A statue of a gnome cowers near a crystal outgrowth, holding a broken crystal in its hands.
From this cavern in the dim light, you can see a few different exits. A tunnel that leads East towards the sounds of the same waterfall you saw earlier. A staircase that leads up to the Northwest. And there also appear to be two openings to enclosed caves. One immediately to your right, and then one about 30 feet in front of you to the Northeast.
Closer inspection of the statue shows an extremely well detailed deep gnome, nearly life like, except cast in stone. You gather this could very well be the Medusa's work.
Oorr, you take note of the direction the gnome is facing, which appears to be the enclosed cave to the Northeast. (Area 20)
Grimnir, as you inspect that statue, you notice the gnome is holding a broken off crystal directly in front of his eyes. The piece of crystal was broken off from a nearby formation. It's possible the gnome was trying to use the crystal refraction to somehow avoid the gaze of the medusa. He's holding it to his eyes, as if to look through it.
"Hummm, I'm not sure, I do not know a lot about mirrors but creating one requires a lot of polishing." Grimnir is taking the crystal and place it in front of his eyes. (OOC: what happen, does his vision get blurry? Any advantage to have this in front of his eyes against a Medusa gaze?)
OOC: also how heavy is the petrified gnome ? I'm thinking of bringing him back to the temple if we survive the medusa encounter

Grimnir, you take the crystal from the hand of the gnome and look through it. You see a kaleidoscope view of the cave around you and surmise that this could actually help deflect the gaze of the medusa, but it requires a free hand to hold the crystal in front of your eyes, and would hinder your own attacks. (OOG While holding the crystal to your eyes, you gain advantage on saving throws against the Medusa gaze, but disadvantage on attack rolls.) It would take too much time to polish and shape into a mirror.
The gnome is small in size, but due to its solid stone nature, it weighs around 400 lbs. Depending on your strength, it would probably take more than one of you pushing and dragging it to move it.
Grimnir is trying to pull the gnome without success.."Well this one will have to stay here for now. Let's continue, we can come back later to pick him up. Some priest in the city might know how to revert the petrification. Should we continue toward where the gnome was facing? (area 20?)"
Grimnir keeps looking around, keeping the gem in front of his eyes.
Jimjar, Eldeth, and Derendil break off gems of their own as you move closer towards the cavern to the Northeast.
Valrish has dawnbringer out, and leads the way into the cave (Area 20).
The adornments in this chamber would be more at home in a drow city. Spider-themed tapestries, fine zurkhwood furniture, and racks of expensive clothing fill the area, all of it old and rotted. At the center of the chamber, a female drow sits upon a zurkhwood throne. She stands, eyes closed and arms crossed as if in meditation or prayer. Then her white hair writhes, and you see it is formed of pale, hissing snakes.
"What fools you are to have come to my lair!" She yells.
History Check to see what Brox knows about the medusa: 5
Brox is rattled by the appearance of the medusa. She has heard that a medusa can turn creatures to stone, like that poor gnome at the entry. All she can think of is looking away from that monstrosity. But she does remember to encourage her new fighting companions. "Stay close to me, I will try and shield you from her gaze by getting her to look at me! Channel your inner light!"[OOC: Aura of Protection: +3 on all saving throws if you're within 10ft of Brox]

Valrish wastes no time, rushing forward to attack the Medusa as soon as he spots her, throwing caution to the wind. Her eyes cast towards him (DC 14 Con Save: 11). As he brings Dawnbringer down, his eyes and the snake headed woman's meet, and the glowing blade drops from Valrish's hands. He stands frozen in place, about 15 feet away from the Medusa. She smirks, "Idiot."
Eldeth stays back from the cavern entrance, out of the range of the Medusa's gaze and shoots with her bow: Attack: 9 Damage: 3, but without getting closer, she has no line of sight to take a shot at the Medusa. She waits, crossbow ready, to shoot at the monstrosity, should she emerge from the cave.
(OOG Edited for terrain. The Medusa sits inside an enclosed cavern, so those outside cannot get a clear shot at her from ranged. You must either enter into melee, or draw her out into the crystal cavern, or some other tactic.)

Oorr looks at the Medusa straight in the face. He needs to strike well. This evil creature must come to an end. "The Wind of Fate has come upon you, monster!"
Oorr evokes wind magic (Zephyr Strike) and calls upon a magic-enhanced breeze to guide the strike. Zippy follows the lead of its master and does the same, biting at the snake lady.
