Basil looks at you all with a look of surprise and then smile showing his teeth. Your group seemingly just answered a prayer the boy expected no answer to.
Basil:"I... I was not expecting anyone coming to my aid. My walking to this point was all about hope, but i didn't know if any people would come this way. Thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart."
The boy stands up agian, feeling much better now. He is clearly still exhausted, but can at least stand with pride.
Basil:"Keep the coins then !" and he puts the necklace back around his neck. Basil:"My sister would have wanted our father to be happy even after she was lost. She was young, 2 years older then me, but she had wisdom far beyond mine and father."
looking down the trail and pointing toward the hills nearby. You see a small house in the distance, about a mile away.
Basil:"The house of Artwood people call it. I mainly always assumed it was because of our last name. Recently, with my fathers behavior, i have been suspecting that it may have meant something else. Something about my fathers past, that he never spoke of. I dont think you will find him that easily, he is a man with great stealthing skills. he was a scout in the army before living here with our mom. The house is only one floor so its quite small. but i remember my father disappearing a few times when i was younger. I suspect he has a hidden basement, but i don't know where that is."
The kid hesitates about the next part, not sure about what else to say. He thinks about it for a few seconds and then continues.
Basil:"I don't think my father ever touched sorcery, but in our last arguments he said he had a way to bring back my sister from the dead. I fear he may have either found someone who could do it for him or he could have found a tome that has some kind of ritual in it. either way he said he needed the chambers altar. I do not know what he meant by that. I think my father has gone insane. Please we already lost our mother when my sister was born, all i have left is my father. if you can reason with him, please bring him to his senses. but if you can't..."
The boy is not sure what else to say after realising what he is saying...

Gwen looks lost in thought as she searches her memory. The words chambers altar could mean anything. But most likely is literal just as anything related to rituals.

"S-sorry, mi'lord," Gwen couldn't stand to look Reshi in the eye. "I-I can't think of anything else his father could be referring to..." She practically whispered, disappointed in her failure to produce clues. Still, she had a direction and a purpose. This should be good enough to do good, no?
Gwen turned her attention back to Basil, "B-be well. I hope to re-return shortly with grand news..."
With that, Gwen walked off in the direction of the house. She wasn't sure who would lead this expedition, and she prayed it would not come down to her.

"Shall we leave, then?" Reshi marches after Gwen, twirling his dual daggers in his palms. Though his sympathy is with Basil and his family, he does not forget his main objective. He can feel the pouch of coins dangling from his belt, chinking with every step.
Now his sympathy is clashing with his unquenchable thirst for gold.
"Basil was happy giving me the gold, wasn't he?" asked Reshi, justifying his actions. "He wouldn't have given it to me if he didn't have it to spare."
[ooc] Thanks for the clarification :-) I was a bit unsure as well, since my last PbP DM insisted we did not say which checks we wanted to make ;-) [/ooc]
Sun walks up to Reshi with a smile on his face: "I'm sure you can keep that Resh. Look, if we find more, then we give some of it back to Basil. Think of it like this - Basil has invested in our abilities to help him, and maybe it will pay off in the end. Or maybe we're all dead before nightfall, and I don't know about you, but I think you deserve a small pouch of shinies for dying." Sun gives Reshi a friendly slap on the shoulder as he runs up towards Zylar and Gwen. Then he says loudly, so the rest of the group can hear it: "What a great adventure this will be! Let's go save a dead sister and her crazy poppa!"
It has been years since he has encountered anyone who wasn't out to steal his gold or murder him in his sleep to gain credibility amongst thugs. He wants to befriend these people, but there is always those niggling thoughts in the back of mind, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The girl winced as Reshi spoke about the gold coins the boy had given them. Gwen, of course, would take no part in it. She found it quite strange, even wrong, for the others to have accepted it. Isn't a good deed it's own reward? Yet, she kept her mouth shut. Confronting villains with an arrow to the face came easy... confronting people with criticism of their actions? Never in a million years...
Gwen recoils at the sound of Sun's voice, but gives him a nervous smile and says, "U-uh-huh, y-yes... let's..."
Gwen is comfortable with moving in front of the group. Though she had no physical strength to speak of, she was confident in her abilities to handle situations as they happened. As long as those situations don't involve social interactions like dancing with strangers in a ballroom... awkward. If no one was in front, she was more than happy to take lead. As she moved, she kept her eyes peeled for any signs of the father... or any other trouble for that matter.

Zylar take a dive in his knowledge of the arcane, but only finds the basic stuff. Energies may come from the world or a deity. Places where leylines are strong or maybe just a consecrated deity temple. When it comes to harnessing those energies you need to be strong to do it... Or maybe he found people to help him. In all cases this doesnt give much more the a few hypothesis.
Gwen looks around and carefully watches for details that could tell her dangers lurks. Fortunately the road to the house is an easy one. A fifteen minute trip down a trail, leading to the famous house. The house slowly becomes visible. It is not huge. Probably a few rooms, one single floor and an attic.
From this distance the house seems silent and peaceful. Still, a sentiment of foreboding creeps aound you. Something is definitely not right, but your group doesn't seem to be able to say what is the source. It almost feels like you have stepped into something. You look around you, there is nothing. The more you approach this house the more the feeling hits you.

As the growing sense of foreboding looms over the adventurers, Reshi stows the daggers in his hands and pulls the crossbow from over his shoulder, loading a bolt at the ready. He assumes a defensive stance as he inches toward the gloomy house.
The group gets closer and closer to the house. The house has a front door made of wood. The house has a base made of rocks and the exterior walls made of logs. It is only one floor high with pointy roof. A single circular window at the top just under the roof end. At first sight there should be an attic as well. The first thing that you perceive is that all windows shutters are open. The house interior is bathing in sunlight. Outside the house, there are flowers on each sides of the main door. Those are dying seems to not having been taken care of for a while. On the south side of the main door, two windows with the same kind or flowers underneath the window stills. At first sight from those windows... There is no movement inside.

Taking it slowly to the house wall. Reshi lean to peek through...
A dining room of about 30 feet by 30 feet, stand there. The big table in the center and 6 chairs around it. The east wall seems to have an archway leading to what seems like lounge. Peaking a bit further in. Reshi also see on the north wall, to the west of the wall, an archway to what seems like a corridor. To the east of the north wall, another archway. Though Reshi doesn't see whats beyond that one with his current position.
Creaking board as Suns claws digs into the wooden logs. From the attic window, he realises their is no floor to the attic and only logs jammed into each others stands there. Someone could easily see the whole house without ever touching the ground from this place.
Sun also see the entry hallway leading to the kitchen to the south. A small area to place boots and brooms. The hallway is merely 10 by 10. It also has another corridor to the north. And a big familly portrait on the eastern wall. Sun sees a Boy which can only be Basil. A man with a yellow beard and sideburns, his hairs tightyly knotted into a pony tail that descend all the way to the middle of the back. Dressed in fine clothing. Aside from him, a girl with blond hais up to the shoulders and two braids. This is probably Holly. The man also looks very serious and sports a chain around his neck.
