Valen gets up as the folk start arriving, and moves to help those who seem the most badly off to seats. He calls for the serving girl to bring water, and the red-haired dwarf seconds this, getting more of his servers out and helping get the people settled.
"Ye said this happened last night?" Valen asks one of the men as he helps hand out mugs of water. "How long ago would you say, 4 hours, ten, more?"
Toc watches carefully as each member of the group responds, before standing and approaching the bar tender. "Good sir, who is the mayor of this village. They should be contacted immediately to report the incoming refugees. Likewise, Greenest is not so far from here that you should consider this place safe. You should immediately put people on alert that they should be prepared to leave. Finally, will Silverspan help their neighbors in this time of need, or is there any political nuances between the villages that we should take into account?"
Toc presumes the bartender will demonstrate good will and a positive response to his points. Assuming he's correct, Toc leaves the bartender with his tasks and goes to lend a hand with the refugees. He asks a few questions of his own, spacing them out and using careful language to as not further traumatize the common folk, "How many people remain in Greenest? Was there a defense mounted? Do you think the defense was likely to have held? Who are the leaders at Greenest?"

While Toc was extracting strategic information, Taviel continued to be a compassionate stranger willing to listen and share the awe, terror and excitement: "A dragon? A real life dragon?! Here?! This is inconceivable! You did the very brave and very wise thing to run away from it. But how could it happen? Out of the blue without any warning an army of - you said little dragon things? Like kobolds? - with a real dragon attacked the town? And no one saw or suspected those cultists with them before?"
Meanwhile, Nodwick was summoned to help redhaired bartender, bringing food and water first to the table with Taviel.
Valen ... "Been walkin most o da night, so ad ta be late evening when da first of em showed up." The man answers you.
Germain ... As you look over the refugees you find that they are mostly without wounds. Other than blistered feet and several levels of exhaustion, they are uninjured.
Toc ... "No doubt the mayor already knows." The bartender informs Toc with a shrug. "Town watch would have reported to her at once, probably why we haven't seen them yet." He gives a shrug then. "As for relations between town, there is no ill-will, but I doubt if Silverspan will be sending troops to help out Greenest; this town just doesn't have that sort of resources."
From his questioning of the refugees Toc learns: Governor Nighthill is the leader of Greenest. These people were from the outlying homesteads and farms, which is how they got away from the invaders as they did. The refugees saw flames as they fled, and believe Greenest was on fire to some extent. The refugees believe most of the town would have fled to the keep, which they do not believe would have fallen, but they cannot be sure.
Taviel ... "it was not exactly unexpected." The red-bearded dwarf says, stepping up next to you. "After all, this is the very reason you guys were asked to come here." He steers you away from the refugees and to a bit quieter area of the common room. "This might be the chance we need though." He informs you in a low voice, his rough voice barely above a whisper. "If ye can take your crew and get there, you might be able to track them back to their hole. It might be the only chance we get at this... Those who harp believe they are building up to something, and whatever that might be could be about to come to pass." He nods to the still filling common area. "we can handle this lot, you should get on the road now, so you can get to Greenest, check on the defenders, and see if the invaders are there or, as in past experience, have already left." He meets your eyes. "The previous towns were ransacked, but the casualties were low, I do not expect you will find Greenest too badly off, but I do expect you to find it well-looted. You need to find out what these dragon cultists are gathering so much treasure to accomplish."
"What else is known?" Taviel was full of excited curiosity (and questions). "The army can not just appear out of thin air (well, it can but it takes a lot of magical power). And when they leave with all the loot - they also have to leave some tracks. Did not anyone tried to follow?"
Naroth has been listening to everything intently, while passing out what is left of his food to the refugees.
Then upon hearing the words from the red-bearded dwarf, "I agree, let us go." And then will make for the door waiting for the others to join him outside.
Toc nods, "It would seem haste is in order. Allies, let us away."
He follows Naroth and Germain out of the Singing Lark, "Those of you without horses, go ahead and get a head start. We'll be right behind you."
He heads to the stable. Once inside he locates his horse, opening the stable door. He pats Felix, the dark brown pony, as he whispers to him in Elven. He grabs his nearby blanket, tossing it over the horses back, followed by the heavy leather saddle. With a practiced hand he hooks up the bridle and backs his horse from the stable and out to the front of the building. Felix prances a bit, eager to run, as he makes sure anyone else on a horse is present, before clucking at this horse and kicking his heels to get into a gentle trot as they leave town. Once out of the town, he yells, "Hiyyaa!" and Felix leaps into a run, Toc pushing his weight into the stirrups and leaning into the gallop.
When they catch up to the others he slows to a walk, patting his horses neck and whispering some more in Elven.
"When we arrive at Greenest we should assume enemies may still be present. If not, then nothing to plan for. But if they are, best we talk now. I heard rumor of a fort. If it still stands, we may find ourselves on the outside of a siege. If a dragon is present, I presume none here are prepared for a headlong assault. Which of you have talents that may lend themselves to us sneaking through enemy lines? Is anyone here a fine scout? I'm passable. I am also capable with magic. I can disguise myself to look like the enemy if needed. I can also use magic to understand them if they speak languages we don't understand, but can't talk to them. Otherwise, my abilities are combat oriented."
He turns to Naroth as they walk, "If you wouldn't mind, could you hold onto this package for me? In case I lose my belongings and you do not, this could come in handy." If Naroth accepts he passes over a thick wool blanket wrapped around a leather bound book. "Thank you, I appreciate it."
Germain will be halfway to the door as his companions talk of leaving, waiting eagerly for them to join him, "Time to hunt." Vilrana flies back to his shoulder, swallowing the last of her meal, as he pulls on a pair of tight fitting half gloves.
As they travel, by foot for him, "I can move quietly enough, and disguise myself if needed. I can also speak draconic, which may come in useful. As for more general abilities, I can handle myself in a fight, though I prefer to do so from a distance, and I have a few tricks that can aid others in combat. Speaking of, Naroth, my large friend, do you have a preferred sword? I believe I can augment it for battle if you'd like?"
Naroth walks alongside the group but a bit slowly as with his long stride, he tends to outdistance people when he just normally walks.
"I can creep around but my size gets in the way, I just like to move in quick and take out any enemy in front of me." Turning to Toc, "Sure, I will hold it till you want it back."
"What else is known?" Taviel was full of excited curiosity (and questions). "The army can not just appear out of thin air (well, it can but it takes a lot of magical power). And when they leave with all the loot - they also have to leave some tracks. Did not anyone tried to follow?"
"Of course some have tried to trail em." The dwarf replies. "We just aint seen none of em return as of yet, which is why you guys are here now, with a bit more seasoning on you."
As Valen sees the others start to head out, he would finish handing a mug of water to one of the refugees and grab his glaive to follow the others. "We heading out then?" He asks as he catches up with the giant-kin and strides along with him.
[OOC: I assume we will be moving at a "Fast" pace traveling to Greenest, which means we can cover 4 miles per hour, though our passive perception will be at -5.]
Glancing at Valen deadpan, "Not know about you, but I not appear to be sitting down." Then turns back to the horizon in front of him and continues to walk on. Valen swears he saw a hint of a grin on Naroth's face but when he looks again his face shows no emotion.
Toc shrugs, his upper body still as his lower body sways side to side on his horse, the casual motions of a seasoned rider, "Thank you Germain, it is a generous offer. I would not pass up a benefit, but if Valen wants it, he should take it. As for our tactical plan, if the enemies are still present, I suggest Germain do the scouting to start. If we run into trouble, I feel Naroth will be our vanguard regardless of any planning, so best we all think about how best to support him. Naroth, I presume you will consider your allies and the situation before leaping into battle? We will all feel honor bound to support you, it would be considerate were you to confer with us prior to an attack. But of course, you must do what you feel is right. Germain, we need a signal if you get into trouble while scouting. While I was in the Green Watch near Myth Drannor my commanding officer preferred his signal to be.... " Toc pauses for dramatic effect "... Help, I'm being attacked! I feel that should do fine."
Sensing Naroth trying to set a quickened pace, Toc pushes the group to match his strides and rush to Greenest. Though as we near the village we will take it more slowly for the last two miles.

"It certainly makes things more disturbing. More interesting too," admitted Tavien, "then we will be on our way." She said good byes to the red dwarf and went to the stables to already prepared red mare and the mule - Nodwick was indispensable with his ability to literally read master's mind. For a moment she considered to leave animal here under Nodwick's protection but Greenest was still too far a way and she did not feel like walking all of it.
"Do not look at me for scouting or pretending being someone else," answered Taviel Toc's question when they caught up with others. "Not my forte. I prefer to deal with thing by burning them before they annoy me too much. Like Germain I can talk to the dragon, should we get a chance, but I have a feeling the chance would not present itself any time soon. Still, if you need a fire support - just say a word. Or don't."
Taviel was riding slowly keeping the pace with the walking part of the group and looking around curiously. Who knows, may be the hoards of attacker were passing this way too at some point? Or some observant struggles could need or land some help?
Germain will take the glaive from Valen and hold it with both hands, one on the blade, the other just below it. As he stops walking for a moment to focus, blue-white crackling energy seems to run along the weapon between his hands, after a moment the energy fades, but the blade takes on a bluish tinge of color when it reflects light, “There, that should about do it, it will last until I need the energy for something else.” As he hands it back, you notice a spark jump from the blade to a small black gem set into the palm of his gloved hand.
Toc hops from his horse as he sees this occur and walks over to Germain. "Do you mind?" he says, and then reaches out and puts his hands on Germain's glove, his eyes closing slightly. He opens them again and then pokes at the black gem. "I am curious about the way you weave magic. When we have some time I wouldn't mind if we could have a chat. But...of course, that's not for now." He smoothly pushes himself back up into his saddle as the group continues on their way.
