Tamerin, with a flick of his wrist, shakes the grime from his quarterstaff before docking it across his back once more. "I agree," he said nodding towards the dwarf. "we should be moving on before anymore of the beast creep up on us." Turning back down he waved over his shoulder for the others to follow. "If we hurry the trail might still be warm at those ruins." He added as he strode forward into the dark.
(I guess whatever Brundel decides to do regarding healing)
(also, if the new player wants to emote wandering around the sewers as well, that would be great)
After some time of exploration, the sewers beneath Holos are vast and are the beginning of the ruins of Zendran Empire, essentially they are the 1st layer of ruins.
Not many have ventured down into the depths. You have heard tales of some venturing down deep, but it seems those are simply bravado. Gangs have been known to make homes here and streetpeople and such. As far as rumors of fell beasts, you have heard little.
You have come across a gathering of persons, the poor in a makeshift camp. An old woman waves as she recognizes you from the guard. There is a fire pit and a man is roasting a large lizard on a spit. The camp murmurs as you approach.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: Assume I cast Cure Wounds on Grawyseia and myself, so my spell slot are spent. Things got a bit jumbled with the forum move, sorry.
As surprised as he was to see a camp in the sewers, Brundel found the site as welcoming as the old woman's face. The smell of searing lizard made him regret not pulling a few solid chunks of meat from the rats. They would have made a worthy peace offering, or even payment on a few hours rest, if needed. He realized he had forgotten to account for the money had between the three of them.
"Well met, mum," Brundel offered with a warm smile, "Brundel's me name. Me travelin' companions be Tamerin an' Grawyseia, better in a scrap 'n meself, but in need o' rest just the same. What news have yeh o' happenin's down here?"
"Ah, well its better to have some Guard down here. Cutpurses about." One of the men speaks, "Aye, it grows late and trouble grows. Make yourself home here as its gonna be late soon."
The time is beyond dusk. Although stairs lead up to the city proper. Or venture further and see what awaits. There is the sense that being down here at night is not entirely safe.
"So, you guys are tired, yeah." He said looking back at them. "I suggest we stay down here, find a small hide hole and get on again early this morning." He suggested with a small smirk. "Unless someone's scared."
Brundel glanced sideways at Tamerin as he replied "Aye. These folk seem teh be gettin' on jess fine. A rest'll do us good before we head in deep, an' maybe we can get'r bearin's. We still got a ways teh go."
Brundel looks to the man who spoke of cutpurses. In his experience, there was no such thing as a free bed, and he suspected that any dwelling worried about thieves likely wanted coin for the trouble of harboring a stranger. "Down to teh brass tacks, then. We help keep the watch, takin' turn o'course, in exchange for a bite o' bread n' sip o' ale iff'n yeh got any. Agreed?"
OOC: I propose a long rest. Either I recover my spells slots with no event and carry on, or something interesting happens in the night. Either way sounds good to me. What do you think, JackofallTrades?
Some screams of persons down in the sewers breaks the silence beyond the usual running of water and the camp disbanding in the early morning. "Best get a move on as Holos cleans itself out at about this time," The old woman says.
A sort of rushing of water can be heard further ahead and a whooooosshhh as a torrent of water runs thru one of the large pipes into a large ravine and pool down below. After about 30 minutes the water slows down to a faint stream of water. The people in the camp start to make their way up the stairs into the city. Several people thank you and a young boy gives you a fresh loaf of bread and there is a huge jug of water that a man has brought down.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
At the screams Tam stood up and dusted himself off. "I suppose that means it's time to get back to work." He said with a slight nod to the child who offered the crust of bread. Taking it from the boy he took a bite before handing it to Brundel and tossing the child a coin. "It seems logical to head toward the screams." He said - almost bored - as he slung his quarterstaff across his shoulders and began that way, creeping slowly towards the sound.

"Aye, lets get teh work," Brundel say absentmindedly, agreeing with Tamerin. Despite the screams, he found himself distracted by the camp. Why these folk had decided to drop bedrolls here, he may never know, but that they did so aware of nearby dangers made him wonder just what it was they were down here to do. He watched Tamerin pay the boy for bread as he took the loaf from the normally crass man. Perhaps Brundel had misjudged him? Brundel realized that some effort would need to be made to get to know his traveling companions a bit better, but for now, there was activity ahead.
(its all good on the rolls, i did that in another pbp as a player and the dm was pissed hahaha, im slowly starting to figure it out tho)
Tam perceives that the little camp here is fairly common among the poorest of the city. The moans sounded human. You are sort of in the belly of the beast in terms of the city. Like any port city there are numerous criminals and pirates. The sewers are fairly common for people to lurk down here, as its hardly policed. Except by the guard, which is largely considered a proving grounds of sorts, like a right of passage into the higher ranks. Like gladitorial combat or something.
But below that is the mystery. Very few people know what is exactly down beyond that. There are rumors are where it goes, that it goes on forever, endless.
Brundel looks to Tam and Gray. "We go below, soon. Anythin' needs preparin', now be the time," he informed them. Brundel was feeling refreshed and ready, himself.
If you want to bring in any of the players posting in the Recruiting thread, now might be a good time. They could enter as members of the camp who decided to join in the adventure for one reason or another.
With that in mind, we might want clean up the formatting of posts, and discuss a non-combat post order or a group leader. While these aspects are not exactly necessary, they enhance the flow of a PbP game and organize it for Players. I am still figuring out how to use some of this site's features, but would it be wise to start an OOC thread to discuss formatting and mechanics?
My character's been invited to join the team. I don't know how the DM wants to introduce her, but it would be in-character for here to be amongst the refugees camping in the sewer. I'd want to intro her as someone who was roasting a dead rat on the fire in the camp who saw everyone come in, possibly realized they were city guard, and then heard the scream in the morning and realized that something was up. Then she'd walk up and offer to help them out as a "specialist" or consultant and try to get them to pay her.
Edit: Alternatively, if the Town Guard wants to hire a "consultant" to help the party, they could always bring her in as "The one who would work the cheapest." or something. Nothing wrong with going with the lowest bidder, right? Maybe with an offhand comment/insult like, "She was the only one who smelled like she knew here way around the sewers anyway."
I don't know, I'm just throwing ideas out there. I'm open to whatever the party and DM want.
(some people are doing it as a group pm, which works. I've thought about discord or maybe roll20 as a vtt. I was just in a pbp session as a player and combat was horribly slow by posting.)
As sort of a bit of lore the city guard isn't really as organized or as formal probably as I make it sound, think of it more as a league of people capable of wielding a weapon or no 0 level characters or a generic guild where people like to hunt monsters, get treasure etc..
It answers the question of why the PCs are doing what they are doing.
But yeah the narrative makes sense that you join up with the party at this time.
The story thus far is the party has been assigned to delving into the sewers and ruins in Holos to find whatever killed a noble has his entourage or whoever was with him at the time. Be a man or beast. Things like this happen in the city from time to time. The city is basically sitting on a powder keg of god knows what, dark magic, foul sorceries, bad mojo. Its generally thought that whatever lurks down in the basement of this city is bad news.
(Which way should my character join up with the party? The second one where the guard hire Sivanna and bring her over? Also, the link you gave me didn't work until I looked up the formatting of some other campaigns and modified it to https://www.tavern-keeper.com/campaign/2376/about by the way. That allowed me to see it. If it really was a noble and his entourage that was killed, it makes sense that they'd hire Sivanna, as she technically also works for a Nobleman as part of his entourage, so she'd probably be somewhat personally invested too.)
(Edit: Read the IC part on Tavern Keeper to the end, if this thread's the continuation of that, I guess I'm caught up?)
(Further edit: If the current party's authorized to hire and take on additional people at their discretion, I could just go with her being part of the camp as well. Whatever's feasible with this game's lore.)
Hello everybody! I am a new player here and created a Human Druid. If our GM wants to talk privately about my introduction, I'm ok with it. But as we're supossedlly all in a sewer, I could just live in one of the less hostile parts of the stinky sewer! Hope to be able with you all soon!
We'll go with milestone XP.
