You have been at sea for a tenday now. All of you had been recruited by Harietta Farsail, the captain of the Solent, a ship that would be sailing to Serpent Isle for an expedition to find out more about its mysterious history. Finally, Serpent Isle is in sight. A dark, looming mountain casts a shadow over you as you behold the massive cliffs. Surrounding the mountain is a thick jungle. The island appears about 74 miles from the northern side to the southern one, and 194 miles from the eastern side to the western side. Captain Farsail smiles in delight.
THE SOLENT
This nippy little sailboat is owned by Captain Harrieta Farsail, the famous adventurer. It is smaller than traditional sailing ships, requiring a crew of around ten with a space for as many passengers. Its slender frame allows it to reach speeds of four miles per hour but limit its hold size, with room for only two tons of cargo.
ADVENTURE START: DOCKING
"Blacksand Cove is the only section of coast where a ship can be docked on Serpent Isle. It is to the southeast of the island, and gets its name from the crushed, black volcanic rock which lines its shore. Here are a rotted wooden dockhouse and a few wooden shacks provide meagre shelter for the island's few visitors."
The Crew of the Solent (NPCs)
Captain Harietta Farsail
A hero and idol in the eyes of many, Captain Farsail (Chaotic Good female chondathan human veteran) has travelled throughout the world in The Solent. She is adventurous and eager, with a love for adventure. Despite this, she does not tolerate unnecessary bloodshed, and scorns those who use violence to solve all problems. She is confident and charismatic, always eager to push people for their best.
First Mate Hilga Ironarm
Hair clipped short save a thick, ginger braid with a jaw that you could crack rocks on. First Mate Ironarm (Lawful Good female hill dwarf thug) is a harsh sight, but a valuable ally. What she lacks in knowledge of the island she makes up for in general survival instincts and seaworthiness.
Balasar (or "Bart") Turnuroth
Balasar (Lawful Good male gold dragonborn commoner) is a sensitive and shy individual. He always felt somewhat of an outcast in his native land, as most dragonborn are rare, and so became an academic, hiding away in libraries and towers. During his scholarly research, he developed a keen desire to know more about his draconic ancestry, which lead him to study the history of ancient civilizations, including that of the yuan-ti.
Luth Brandybarrel
A stout and cheery halfling (Neutral Good male halfling commoner), Luth Brandybarrel is The Solent's chef.
Lei Pin
Often found in prayer, Lei Pin (Lawful Good female shou human priest) is the ship's resident cleric. She worships Lathander the Morning Lord and will regale the crew with the delights of his holiness at any given opportunity. She did not sign up for the adventure, but was rather sought out by Captain Farsail, who needed a cleric aboard as she feared that the adventure might be dangerous. The church of Lathander offered their services, for a reasonable donation of gold, and chose Lei Pin to accompany the crew.
Elesia Ilphelker
A member of a druidic group known as the Sisters of Silvanus, Elesia (Neutral female wood elf druid) is a reserved young wood elf druid, concerned that the ecology of Serpent Isle should not be disturbed by newcomers. She is exited to discover new varieties of wildlife, but anxious that they should be protected. She has taken it upon herself to accompany explorers to the island and ensure that Silvanus' work is done.
Flockey
Flockey (Neutral Good male kenku) is probably the most exotic member of the crew. He acts as the lookout for the Solent and rarely leaves Captain Farsail's side when he's not at his post. The Captain saved him from slavers on a previous adventure, and he has stuck with her ever since.
Julia Behrouzi
Although she keeps to herself, Julia (Lawful Neutral female illuskan human spy) is not unkind or rude. She has come on the adventure in search of treasure, and is highly motivated by the thought of riches. She will happily chat about her previous expeditions to antedeluvian pyramids in blistering deserts or crumbling tombs in ancient forests, detailing the wealth within.
Bran Helder
Young and naïve, Bran (Lawful Good tethyrian human guard was persuaded by his mother to join the crew. He was quite happy as the son of a tanner, but his mother wanted better for him, pushing him out into the world of adventure. Bran is well mannered and willingly puts himself in the way of danger to save other crew members. He also becomes concerned if others appear unwell, or if they disappear for extended periods of time.
Cain (or "Crusher") Pellbek
A true bruiser, Cain (Chaotic Neutral male tethyrian human thug) jumped aboard the first ship he saw leaving the city.Until docking, Cain had no idea where the ship was going, assuming it was some other city not far off. He is not pleased with the destination.
Devious serpent folk devoid of compassion, yuan-ti manipulate other creatures by arousing their doubts, evoking their fears, and elevating and crushing their hopes. From remote temples in jungles, swamps, and deserts, the yuan-ti plot to supplant and dominate all other races and to make themselves gods.
Gwythian holds on to the railings sturdily, as he lets the wind calm his nerves. He studies the island and can feel the essence of it emenating from every natural feature.
Adventure's I've published on DMs Guild: The Temple of Bhaal - A gothic horror themed "one-shot" single session adventure for 1st level characters. The Palace of Evendur - An ethereal fairy tale "one-shot" single session adventure for 1st level characters.
Kap has their hands on the railing of the ship, muttering to themselves, "This was a horrible idea, why'd I do this, I won't fight, I can't let him out. Oh gosh."
They then relieve whatever food they had eaten from their mouth, into the sea(for probably the fifth time that day)
Flockey, the lookout is in the crow's nest (pun intended. Flockey's a kenku), scanning the island with his spyglass.
Captain Farsail (see the crew of the Solent (NPCs)) herself steers the ship gracefully and docks it. The crew walks down the gangplank in single-file off the ship they wait for the seven new recruits (You).

Cain rolls his eyes. Throughout the voyage to Serpent Isle, he had been very rude to the captain and crew. "I don't need any help!" he says, spitting on the ground.
Luth seems more cheerful, as usual. "Don't mind Cain. We'd be grateful if you helped us!"
Hilga accepts your help. An hour later, Durkslag and Gwythian have successfully made the rotting wooden structures tolerable for sleeping in. Captain Farsail is naturally given one of he wood buildings as her quarters.

Deryck doesn't say much, he just perches himself on a high branch above the camp-site keeping and eye out over the island, occasionally he takes flight over the trees looking for any food that he can bring back to the others.

Harietta approaches all of you.
"I hope you enjoyed the voyage!" She says cheerfully. "I wanted to know if you could do me a li'l favor. About day's march from here is a tribal outpost belonging to the RedCrag tribe. I had discovered the tribe's presence on a reconnaissanse trip to the island. I need the seven of you to go over there and see if the outpost is still in use. If possible, remain unseen. Otherwise, try to not enrage them."

Mordekii helps the crew with the camp site. when the captain mentions the Red Crag tribe, his eye light up with excitement.
he leans over and whispers to Durkslag,
"isn't this exciting? our first contact with a new people. do you think they have ever even met people from our continent?"
Mordekii
Mordekii is a young, somewhat slender, tiefling. his skin is pale blue and his eyes are completely black. he seems naïve when it comes to many things of the wider world. but he has shown some shrewdness when it comes to being conned out of any of his possessions. from what he has talked about over the voyage, you gather he grew up on the streets and hasn't been beyond the city walls until now.
he clings to a strange book, never letting it out of his possession. the book doesn't look remarkable save for the excessive security that has been added around it. metal bands and hinges wrap around the book. you have never seen Mordekii open the book before.
Kap will set up camp, then hearing the orders from Farsail they will smile, "Oh good! No fighting, yet at least." They then look down at their quarterstaff sadly. Everyone can notice, written on the quarterstaff are the words, shakily written, For Kap, May She Rest in Peace
Night falls. Shortly after sunset, Luth Brandybarrel cooks a delicious meal consisting of some edible berries he found at the edge of the jungle, some roasted mutton, and radishes he grew on his home farm. Elesia had just returned from her jungle expedition. After that, everyone turns in for the night. Captain Harrieta Farsail is obviously not asleep yet. Candlelight shines through small cracks between the logs that the structure is made of.
Morning. Time to do Captain Farsail's errand.
